  • Title: Dem Bones Dem Bones
  • Emitter: Corra
  • Characters: Faileh 2, Yrqemm 5, MAC-B1G 3, Jame 3, Karuda 2
  • Place: Alexandria - Animal Cemetery in the Countryside
  • Time: Sep 3, 2015
  • Summary: Temple hires adventuerers to check out reports from a cemetery where local horses and pets are interred.
  • APL: 3
  • Encounter 1: 2 Burning Skeleton Dogs, 3 Zombie Horses CR 5

It seems a local cemetary is having problems. Though its just an animal cemetery, where they go to bury their steeds or family pets. As such the temple decided that it couldn't send a full contigent, so it hired some adventurers to look into the problems. That is you. You have just arrived at the entrance to the cemetary, which is outside of Alexandria. Its a good sized one though, people go through a lot of steeds and pets.

<OOC> Faileh asks, "Is it daytime?"

Jame is kind of surprised at the expanse of the pet cemetary. "It's so much bigger than I thought. But, I guess it takes a larger plot if you're going to interr a horse...." He trails off as he looks back and forth. "What are we looking for, again?"

<OOC> Corra says, "midafternoon"

Karuda took up the job cuz she was just a little bored. "Dead things....didn't she tell you?" Karuda says to Jame with a chuckle. "But since we found dead things, I'm thinking we're looking for something else." Well...that's thinking for ya. "See anything?" She says to Jame.

Getting ready before entering the cemetary, Faileh is strapping his shield to his arm and tightening down his armor. "A problem", he says as he prepares to enter. The last thing he does is gently slide his longsword from its scabbard. Staring down the blade for the moment in inspection, he seems to think that was enough of an answer.

<OOC> Karuda has a storm coming. <OOC> Corra says, "mac?" <OOC> Karuda poke Mac. <OOC> Corra says, "perception" GAME: Karuda rolls perception: (20)+8: 28 <OOC> Karuda says, "crap!" GAME: Jame rolls perception: (12)+8: 20 GAME: Faileh rolls perception: (2)+6: 8

The cemetery is pretty quiet, but you can hear some noises on the other side of a rise.

Faileh is seemingly satisfied with his sword as he now looks to the others in his party. Although, it appears he has no clue beyond the vague listing. "Shall we?" he asks, motioning deeper into the pet cemetary.

"Sure." Karuda says looking over the rise. "We'll probably have a bit of better luck that way though. Heard something." She says pointing over the rise. "Stick together....at least."

Jame nods to Faileh and puts his heels to his steed, and it begins walking towards rise where the noises are coming from. He nods to Karuda about sticking together. "Indeed."

Nodding in agreement, Faileh follows along and seems to be keeping eyes and ears to the task of being alert. How effective it is? Well that remains to be seen.

As you near the rise, you can see an open space and what looks to be two dogs fighting three horses. But there are differences. The dogs seem to be without flesh, just bone and flames dance along the bones. The horses look to be in various stages of rotting, flesh barely clinging to their forms. THe dogs sniff at the air and turn to look up the hill towards you all.

"I think we found our problem." Karuda says flatly.

Tilting his head in curiosity, Faileh merely grunts as a response to Karuda. Sword held low at his side as if relaxing his stance for what may come next.

Jame takes his lance down from port arms and levels it towards the "... they've got to be undead," he says. "Don't they?"

It is hard to believe but Alexandria has more than one animal cemetery. And Yrqemm went to the wrong one. Fortunately, he was able to hitch a ride in a post wagon and arrived not too terribly late.

Seeing familiar adventurers, he hustled up the hill, where, huffing and puffing, he has just said his hellos and is about to get annoyed that no one is being friendly when he sees that they're focused on flaming canines and rotting equines! This, for some reason, makes hims smile.

MAC-B1G was uncertain what manner of problems decomposing biological remains might cause, yet the request as made. So it was answered. The construct's uncertainty may also be answered upon its arrival to witness the equine-canine post-mortem confrontation. Fascinating.

The canines and horses start up the hill now in response to living bodies.

It is now canines' turn! Faileh is next!

Jame kicks his horse into motion and it begins a headlong charge down the hill towards the enemy. "Begone, foul spawn!" he shouts as he levels his lance at the horse-thing, and his strike is true, though the thrust of his lance is not dire enough to be fatal.

GAME: Corra rolls 1d20+2: (3)+2: 5 GAME: Corra rolls 1d20+2: (18)+2: 20 GAME: Corra advances the initiative order.

     Round Two - Init 13.
It is now Faileh's turn! Karuda is next!

<OOC> Faileh says, "Range of dogs and stuffs now?" <OOC> Corra says, "but first karuda there is one close enough to use your readied attack"

The cylindrical weapon upon MAC-B1G's scapular plate articulates up and over its shoulder, the forebarrel caught in one manipulator for support. The other plugs palm port into the rear of the weapon, providing power to charge the bore with a cyan glow. A bolt launches from it, impacting the ground near the lead horse's hooves.

<OOC> Karuda says, "Okie. I attack then." GAME: Karuda rolls weapon1: (18)+6: 24 <OOC> Karuda says, "It's an earthbreaker"

The burning canines move forward and one attacks Jame's horse and misses. The other Attacks Faileh with the same results.

So within range?" Faileh says, "or both 20'?" <OOC> Faileh erps and says, "Sorry, confuzled"

When one of the undead canines gets close, Karuda doesn't hesitate to whack it with the mace. It explodes in her face and she coughs. "Well.....that's gonna leave a mark."

<OOC> Faileh is going to move up to a dirty dog and fight defensively. <OOC> Corra says, "basically two horses 20' in front, one 20' being attacked by Jame, and dog going against jame's hors....okay roll to hit" GAME: Faileh rolls 1d20+2: (2)+2: 4 <OOC> Corra says, "miss" GAME: Corra advances the initiative order.

GAME: Karuda rolls weapon1+2: (11)+8+2: 21

Being blown up on has its drawback. Faileh shakes his head and moves on to assist Jame. Shield in hand and sword pitched overhead. As he closes in, he takes a swing, but it is just too erratic for him to land a shot on. He misses, like the unskilled talent he is.

<OOC> Karuda says, "injured horse." <OOC> Corra says, "okay. hit" GAME: Karuda rolls 2d6+5: (4)+5: 9 <OOC> Corra says, "smacks it, sounds of squishing flesh but doesn't do as much as thought should." GAME: Corra advances the initiative order.

It is now Yrqemm's turn! Horses is next!

<OOC> Corra says, "yrqemm" <OOC> Yrqemm says, "May i flank the one Karuda is on?"

Once she wipes the soot from her eyes, Karuda cackles a bit. "THIS is MORE LIKE IT!" She then runs her way forward and takes a BIG swing at the injured horse, but the rotten flesh goes squish, not that it deters her much.

Yrqemm pages: should i roll? :) <OOC> Yrqemm says, "afk for 2 mins brbr" <OOC> Corra says, "with difficulty yeah.." <OOC> Corra says, "sorry, kid pulled me away a moment" Yrqemm pages: can i sheathe my rapiers and just attack with my spiked gauntlets? Round Two - Init 4.
It is now MAC-B1G's turn! Jame is next!

<OOC> Corra says, "mac"

Running past Karuda as she smites the exploding dog, Yrqemm jumps through the flames unscathed, then keeps up with her as she attacks the undead equine. When it rears from her blow, he's right there to simultaneously slide both rapiers into its heart and lungs--or where they should have been--the force of the strikes crushing bone and disloding rotting muscle and skin, forcing the animated corpse to collapse backwards and onto itself.

The other two horses surge forward one slams into Faileh, or tries to and almost falls, the other slams into Karuda back hitting hard.

<OOC> Corra says, "second try...mac?" GAME: Corra advances the initiative order.

     Round Two - Init 4.

It is now canines' turn! Faileh is next!

<OOC> Corra says, "jame and faileh roll reflex" GAME: Faileh rolls reflex: (5)+2: 7

Jame lets go of his lance now that his charge is complete, and draws his longsword, kneeing his steed so he can go and hack up one of the dogs. He wheels his horse and leans down so he can take a hack at the hideous and unnatural creation, but his blow is poorly timed, and though he'd swear he hit it, he does no damage.

<OOC> Corra says, "actually rereading, that one doesn't get a save.." Round Three - Init 13.
It is now Faileh's turn! Karuda is next!

<OOC> Faileh is dropping the fighting defensively and power attacking the dirty dog.

The heat from the burning dog is sweltering and hurts. Meanwhile the dog tried to take on the mount under Jame again, but to no avail.

GAME: You damaged Jame for 1 points. 28 remaining. GAME: Corra advances the initiative order.

     Round Three - Init 11.
It is now Karuda's turn! Yrqemm is next!

<OOC> Corra says, "karuda=horse at your back"

The froth of insanity starts forming at the edges of Faileh's mouth. He hasn't lost it yet but he makes a comment to the greatsword on his back before lashing forth at the dog. "I see it, damnit mother." he says before hopping to the side, getting into a critical position and striking forward with great strength. It cleaves the dog in two, creating a great explosion of dog parts and flames. The sweet smell of cooked human waft through the air from the flames that touch him.

<OOC> Karuda says, "Attack the horse then. XD" GAME: Karuda rolls weapon1: (1)+8: 9 (EPIC FAIL) <OOC> Karuda snerk. <OOC> Karuda says, "and away we go."

Usually, having an enemy at their meant that they were flanked. But for Karuda, she just spun around and swung at the horse.....but she swings a bit too wide and whiffs.

It is now Yrqemm's turn! Horses is next!

<OOC> Corra says, "yrqemm"

Jame hadn't realized how hot those burning dogs were! But he can take it, he's tough. Or ... okay, it's gone. That's good! He wheels around for a new target, and sees Faileh fighting alone. He'll come to his aid! Charging in with longsword raised, he rushes in and gives the creature a heavy hack from horseback, and it slumps to the ground, motionless. "Take that!" he cries victoriously.

Faileh is losing his madness as the amount of monsters drop around them. He starts breathing normally and is looking for action. Trying to keep up the pace he jumps around and gets into position on the last horse. Trying to get a killing blow he puts a lot of force behind his strike, but not much accuracy. He cleanly misses and takes a moment to recover from his failure.

When Faileh runs up to attack, Karuda uses the opportunity to whack the horse on the side. squish. Karuda growls. "Die already!"

Yrqemm continues to thunk on the horse, but holding the rapiers while trying to do so makes him less effective than normally.

The last oozing horse tries to hit Karuda again and misses.

<OOC> Corra says, "dead" <OOC> Karuda says, "yay!" <OOC> Corra says, "free poses after mac poses" <OOC> MAC-B1G arghs, has phone call. Please pose around.

The last horse collapses with the shot from the Wargolem, leaving it quiet except for you all.

<OOC> Corra says, "free poses"

Seeing the horse drop, Karuda takes a deep breath and lowers her mace. "ugh......fun but still hurts when it stops. Rrrg." She the looks to Yrq, putting the head of the mace on the ground. "Good thing you came along."

Looking at the other barbarian coming down from a rage, Faileh asks, "Lost your head, eh?" He uses the back of his arm to wipe away any of the frothing that he was doing before. A grin crosses his face, his fire singed face.

Yrqemm sheathes his blades simultaneously in a lovely display of coordination, followed with a deep bow for Karuda, "Kind words, kind words that I thank you for!" he offers, smiling around at the others, though he seems a bit leery of the WarGolem.

Jame sees the last enemy down, and scans around for any more. When it seems like we're safe, he lets out a surpressed laugh. "Heh. Well, I think that's what we were looking for, yes?" he asks jovially. "Are we all okay? Do we have healing? Or need it?"

"I'm unscathed," replies the tall Syl, "And most of you are covered in soot but not blood, for a change?"

"hah! That was FUN!" Karuda says before patting yrq on the shoulder. "Kind words....well earned." She says leaning on her mace, and looking at the corpses. "I don't have any healing powers." She then belches loudly. "I call upon the healing power of ALE! DRUNKENNESS! STAND-BY!" She can't help but laugh at that.

Inspecting the longsword again, Faileh seems to be in a more open mood now then before the arrival. He looks over to Jame and says, "I'm ok. Just a little burned." There aren't any real wounds on him other than a couple of incidental scratches from the fight and the fire that scorched him. He nods to Karuda's comment and adds, "An honest day's work, lets go get our pay." before putting the longsword back in its scabbard.

<OOC> Faileh says, "er, than"

Jame chuckles at Faileh, a few scorchmarks on his own clothes showing as well. "But nothing that won't heal," he says of his own injuries. He laughs and agrees, "To the pub, then!"

"This unit continues to operate at full capacity," the construct announces as its primary weapon system articulates to the rear, telescopes closed, and stows itself once more.

Yrqemm smiles at Karuda's enthusiasm for warrior stereotypes, genuinely pleased to have made her acquaintance. "Who owns this construct?" he asks, pointing to MAC.

You all do look around but find nothing else moving other than you. You do find signs of some kind of ritual, probably what made the undead you fought. You make your way back to the temple to collect your pay and make your report. They thank you and send a team out to resantify the graveyard, allowing you to make your way to the agreed upon pub.
