The group of you ride/walk out from Alexandria, into the foothills of the Redridge about half a day's travel from the city. The skies are clear blue, the sun is shining, and other than a gusty wind that bespeaks the coming of winter, it's a nice day for a hunt.

<OOC> Seldan says, "Take it away, free RP. I leave it to Munch to describe what he has in mind."

A-hunting we will go! Rhar could use a good sniff, a good run. So could Gurr. As rewarding as it is to lounge about the brewhaus and mind the children, wolves need to wolf! The breeze through their fur is refreshing as Gurr pads along and Rhar sniffs the air for sign of their quarry. "What hunt, again?"

Munch buzzes cheerfully, if tunelessly, as he travels, stubby little bat wings flapping in the breeze. "I mean, I'm okay at hunting once I find something. Like, tracks and stuff. But if I don't know where to find the tracks, can take a while. But the guys at the Guild tell me there are definately Chimera at this spot, so we should be fine. I tried manticore, but while they have dragon wings, they just fell apart when I tried to attach them. Can't handel the stress, maybe? I don't know. Pretty sure actual dragon wings would graft on, but havn't been able to find those, so chimera are next closest I have been able to find."

Hun'rar nods to Munch "Quite difficult I am sure, dragons are rare and often very powerfull." he says marching along in full battle gear, full plate and broad steel shield. "I am concerned about them flying away if they are too docile or scared." he mentions idly.

Olek is on the road again. He just couldn't wait to get on the road again. The life he loves is fighti ng monsters with his friends, and he can't wait to get on the road again. There is a pring in his step, but he says, "We should avoid side trips, I think." But hunting is a thing he can do, and he watches the ground for signs of ... stuff. (fixed)

Malik is on foot, listening to Munch's explanation. There's something magical there. So naturally, it has the wizard's participation, the young spellcaster eager to see how this all plays out. There's a bow in his hand, and he travels along at a brisk pace, listening to the others, but otherwise remaining silent, his own thoughts on something else.

Munch nods to Hun'rar. "Yeah, that's the down side of hunting wings. They fly away if aren't careful. Another part of hunting dumb monsters first, kick their nest and they stay to fight."

<OOC> Seldan says, "Roll survival. :)"

It doesn't take much to find these tracks. It's been a day or so since they were here, but it's a large group, maybe more than one pride, and they've been all over the place. Even those with less than practiced eyes can see that something was here, and the more experienced hunters have no room for doubt.

Rhar and Gurr switch off some, with Gurr sniffing and Rhar talking and looking out. "Chimera." She nods. "What smell like?" Much easier to track by scent if she knows what to smell for. Alot like looking. Just with nose. "Smell like that?" She points at the scrapes and marks on the ground.

Olek is more pleased to be out and adventuring with allies and is not paying particular attention to his surroundings. Not as much as he should, at any rate. But when others find the tracks, he will nod gravely. "Well done."

Malik's eyes find the tracks easily enough. All of them. Apparently from a variety of creatures. He looks to the others, raising an eyebrow. "Just how many did they say were here?" he asks, glancing back and forth between the other hunters, lips pressing together a bit tightly. "Doesn't look like they're travelling alone. Not by a good margin."

Hun'rar is not the most observant with his helmet on and that is doubly so for tracks, still he gladly follows the others, shield carried on one arm. "Might be a good idea to prepare for ranged combat." he half says to himself. "Anythingin particular to prep for against Chimeras?"

<OOC> Seldan says, "Knowledge of chimerae would be a knowledge/arcana roll, for those who have it."

Munch nods to Rhar, his face plate cracking open, and a long black tongue flicking out to test the air. To be fair, he doesn't really have a nose. "Those are chimera tracks, I'm pretty confidant. So whatever those smell like, that's them." The metal man buzzes quietly, peering around. "Messy tracks though, not sure which way they went. I think is a stream that direction, water is a good a place to look as any, unless someone has a better idea." Not even certain is a stream that way. "Not sure how many, Guild just said there were some. As for fights... they're mostly lion, so I guess like a lion? But they're also a lot dragon, so a bit like dragon to. And I guess part goat? I'm not sure how goats fight."

To (Hun'rar, Malik), Seldan pages: The big two problems with chimerae are the dragon breath weapon and the fact that they fly. They can and do do airborne attacks, and they're more cunning and mean, capable of basic tactics, but not smart enough to be reasoned with.

Gurr lowers his head to sniff at the tracks. Rhar climbs down onto Gurr's head to lean from there to also sniff the tracks. "Goat butt heads!" Not like what Olek is trying to do, but the other other one. Rhar climbs back fully aboard and Gurr sniffs about for a less eye-visible trail.

Olek ambles along letting the others do the tracking, since they're so keen on it. He whisles, badly offkey, and watches where we're going.

Hun'rar keeps an eye on the sky "Keep an eye out for breathweapons. Good chance of being hit by multiple of them." he notes "Although I am not sure how to prep properly for that, hopefully they breathe a lot of fire." he notes.

"You ever fought a lion, munch?" Malik turns to look at the golem, raising an eyebrow. "Mean bastards. I've seen just one take down a whole hunting party. I've seen a hungry pride do more damage than that. I've seen a dragon do more damage than a pride. And we're talking about a mix of plenty of different parts of them, none pleasant. Also," he says, nodding to the tracks. "More than one of them. I would suggest caution. Lots of it."

Rhar looks over and lifts the shiny wide flat stick wrapped to her arm. "Rhar protect. Shiny stick no burn!"

Munch buzzes, glancing to Hun'rar. "Fire for you, acid for me, and a miss for everyone else." To Malik he nods. "Fought a dragon alongside a lion. Animal companion to someone or another. Fought a chimera a long time ago, but that was just the one. Not sure if, or how, they do pack tactics. I guess we'll find out if it happens."

<OOC> Seldan says, "If you have ranks in survival, roll it. If not, roll perception to see if you can determine which way the tracks go."

GAME: Malik rolls Perception: (2)+16: 18
GAME: Munch rolls perception: (2)+19: 21

Olek remains quiet through all this. He's never fought chimeras or even lions before, so this will be learning for him. He looks around warily now, occasionally eying the tracks to keep us going straight.

Hun'rar was once given some rudimentary training in tracking but he doesn't notice anything from the inside of his helmet. He is looking up much more than anything else, expection trouble from the sky. Rhar sniff around the edges of the tracks, and points towards the lowlands, from whence they came. "That way!" Though she's now pointing over Gurr's tail as he has turns to lumber further up into the hills. Without pausing, he glances back to the others, flicks an ear, and looks fowards again. "Oh!" Rhar turns around to face Gurr-forward. "That way!"

Munch buzzes in mild amusment, and hurries to join Gurr and Rhar. The metal man isn't certain of the direction, but has no objections, and they seem to know the way. "I guess is always the option to just make a lot of noise and hope the come to investigate."

To (Rhar, Olek, Malik, Munch), Seldan pages: You can hear them before you can see them, ill-tempered bellowing more than a true roar, and definitely more than one. In fact, there are - many.

Rhar has good ears. Not as big or pointy as Gurr's, but just as furry and still keen. With a bit of a start, she whirls back to look at the others to ask in a harsh whisper. "Listen!" She then sniffs. "Smell something?"

Olek notices something, and that's got his shield up and his axe out, wary and ready even before he can see what it is we may need to fight. "Hopefully not more trees," he says sourly. "Doesn't sound like trees, anyhow."

Malik hears the bellows, off a bit, before he actually sees anything. But that alone is enough to cause him to fall up short, raising a fist in that 'hold' posture as he turns an ear to listen. "I think we just found them," he tells the others. Though he squints a bit, listening to the sounds. "Not just one."

Munch blicks with a soft click and falls still, listening a moment and nodding to Rhar. Holding still, the golem buzzes quietly to himself, his tiny metallic scales sparkeling a few moments before molting, falling off in waves, only to shimmer and rise again in small clouds. A small set firms and hovers in a thin protective layer, moving with the barbarian. More simple form a small cloud, shimmering and shifting, making it hard to see Munch clearly.

Hun'rar turns his head as if to hear something but doesn't seem to react. "I hear nothing." he says drawing his sword "But if you say they are close, I should feel them if they are close to me." he adds with a nod, ready for something he has not heard or seen.

As several people pause to prepare, the rest become aware of multiple bellowing sounds from a little distance away. The chanting does not bring a change in the sounds of a herd, though - maybe they have not yet heard you.

Malik makes a gesture, uttering a few words. And then, on the heels of that one, another. And the man is suddenly gone, a gentle breeze blowing past where he once stood. "Be careful," his disembodied voice calls.

Munch moves forward cautiously. Not exactly quietly, the metal barbarian isn't built to be subtle, but he would like a look at the things before charging in.

Olek looks to the others as magic happens, and he says, very quietly, "Let me know when you want me to charge." Because he's itching for a fight. He does sound eager, and he's eying where we think these things are as if he can't wait to charge.

Hun'rar looks to the others preparing spells and nods. "Ready to go anytime you guys are." he notes, sword in hand and ready to get into the fray.

You paged Seldan with 'If there's more than one of these bastards, and we only need one, why don't we try to lure one to -us-? If their calls are changing, there's a good chance that the CE nasties are either fighting or fucking, and either way, they'll be too busy with each other to maybe notice one of them just wandered off.'
Seldan pages: Do you want to go in to look at what they are doing?
Long distance to Seldan: Malik goes -up- to look at what they're doing. Fly, baby.
Seldan pages: And you are invisible? All right.
Seldan pages: You fly up to see what they're doing. A couple seem to be mating, some are grazing, some are asleep. They are paying -no- mind. You count eight, and the dragon heads are: two black, two blue, two white, one red, one green.
You paged Seldan with 'Yeah, let's hurry back down to the others and tell them to not be stupid.'

Munch creeps forward slowly, carefully edging a brach aside, and freezes, magicite eyes peering at the sight before him. After several moments, the metal man very slowly edges back, turning slowly to look to the others before carefully spreading his fingers, then holding up two. 12. He counts 12. Rising slowly, the golem cautious draws the massive greataxe, Reaver, from his back, and murmurs one more spell. His tiny scales shimmer again, a great many shifiting to a bright blue color.

GAME: Munch casts Resist Energy. Caster Level: 6 DC: 14
<OOC> Munch says, "Resist Electric"
<OOC> Seldan says, "All right."

Rhar makes sure that her sharp pointy stick is ready and Hit With Stick spell is prepared.

<OOC> Munch double checks, currently resists 10 acid (natural) and 10 electric (spell). and is currently ready to charge in.

Rhar and Gurr also begin to creep forward, to stay with the pack. Gurr is big, not hard to see. Rhar less so.

There's a sudeden 'whoosh', and a rustling of grass. "Eight!" Malik's voice, in a sharp whisper. "There's -eight- of them!" More than their ittle party, for sure. "Every color. This is probably not smart. They haven't seen us. Some are asleep. Others are, uh -- busy. But they're not gonna stay that way."

Munch counted 12, but he's not that great with numbers... and with all those heads... well... the metal mans toes flex, and a shower of rainbow sparkles burst out, shimmering in a bright shower up the metal man's body. At the same time, he starts to swell, blowing up like a balloon, not only growing in size, but solid bulk, muscles already impressive swelling to massive proportions. Now over ten feet tall, Munch howls. The sound of a chainsaw going though sheet metal, and charges, heading for where he saw the green-headed chimera.

<OOC> Munch says, "Boots of Speed to activate Haste. Ancestral Weapon casts Enlarge Person. Activate Rage, and charge in. ;) Because we're only out numbers until we kill or scare off some of them."

The party is on the flight of chimerae before they can act. They are thin, hungry, ill-tempered, and fresh meat just showed up. -Lots- of it. The two closest are badly beleaguered and bleeding in the blink of an eye, but food trumps nearly everything. Malik was not kidding when he said that some were - er, busy, and the one that Hun'rar fried was among those. He un-busies himself and -charges- at Hun'rar, but cannot get through the man's armor. The others breathe, spraying acid and lightning at the front, fire and cold, at the back. The last two launch into the air, one shooting lightning blindly at the air - and it hits something.

<OOC> Olek will go after 3
<OOC> Olek says, "Charge? Or can I full attack?"
<OOC> Seldan says, "You need to charge, and they have reach."

Malik sees the lightning coming too late. He tries to move, but can't get out of the way in time, skin getting seared even if others can't see it. That just seems to make him angry, though. He reaches behind him, drawing a fistful of arrows, shooting them in rapid succession until one falls. Of course, that only works so far. In his anger, he drops one of the arrows, and then another, until plugging the final arrow into yet another chimera.

<OOC> Seldan says, "Hun'rar. You have a problem. You can get two if you take a 5' step back."
<OOC> Hun'rar says, "' Are either red?"

Olek's foe as been put down, so he'll charge the next closest, sliding past it's guard with barely a twitch. He plants his feet and swings his axe, but it's pulling away as the blade comes down, and the cut he leaves is shallow.

<OOC> Hun'rar says, "If I can catch 2 non-red I will be happy too."

<OOC> Seldan says, "No. If you want to risk an AOO, you can leave Rhar/Gurr to finish #2 off and go find something else to beat on."

Hun'rar takes a quick step back, beset on nearly all sides by the creatures. "These creatures are poor imitations of dragons Munch, you sure you want their wings? Lets see how they like a real breath weapon." the knight takes a deep threat and unleashes a wash of broiling flames from his mouth through the T-shaped visor of his helmet and spreads it all across the Chimerea.

     Round Three - Init 25.
It is now Rhar's turn! Chimerae is next!

Munch roars happily, and tears into the chimera before him, axe and fangs flashing, though most is just scarping against flesh as the creature falls still. Glancing to Hun'rar, he shouts a little too loud. "They're what I can find! Might be good enough!!"

<OOC> Seldan says, "Rhar. Munch just killed your friend, for great justice and pink wings. Olek is dealing with #3, #4 and #8 are airborne, #5/6/7 are picking on Hun'rar."

Too stupid, or too hungry, to run, the chimerae continue to throw teeth, claws, and elemental attacks at the hunters. Few of the latter find purchase, but the rent of metal is audible as one slips through Munch's armor. The elemental attacks do more damage, spraying acid and frost this time over Rhar, Hun'rar, and the invisible Malik, but the party seems to have the upper hand.

Even though he's blistered and burned, at this point, he manages to stay in the air through sheer force of will, releasing another volley of arrows at the flying beast, aiming directly for the wings. The first two miss, as well as the last, but the middle two find their mark.

Parrying some of the blows he lashes out with his flaming bastard sword to strike down one of the creatures left, sword piercing it deep in the chest.

<OOC> Seldan says, "Munch? Pose tearing a chimera apart."

Munch buzzes softly as he's hit, a tear in his rubbery 'flesh', but doesn't seem too concerned. However his wrist starts to flash witha white glow, and tiny beads of glowing scales start to race along his skin from the spot, heading towards the wound. There the spead themselves across the injury, starting to replare the damage. The effect is tiny, but more 'beads' are already on the way. A few minutes and will likely be entirely regenerated.

But while his body heals itself, Munch focus on the Chimera that was kind enough to come into his attack range, unleashing a fury of blade and fang attacks. It.... it doesn't go well for the poor chimera. At least he won't be hungry any more...

"No hurt pack!" Rhar doesn't like herself, Gurr, or anyone else getting hot or shocked or chilly breathed on. Gurr lunges in with a bite while she swings sharp stick and even bashes at it with the big shiny flat stick. Whenever one of them gets a good wound, the other takes advantage of the opening to poke or cut or bite again.

<OOC> Seldan says, "No kill like overkill."
GAME: Seldan advances the initiative order.
      Round Four - Init 20.
It is now Chimerae's turn! Malik is next!
GAME: Hun'rar uses an AoO! 0 remaining.
<OOC> Rhar woots! "Well, if it wasn't, Rhar and Gurr still had AoOs left. :)"
<OOC> Seldan says, "I am sorry to do this, but I am fading quickly. Do you want to pause, or should I just wrap up with "to make a long story short"?"
<OOC> Rhar is good with whichever way.
<OOC> Malik says, "It's Munch's thing. I say we let him make the call."
<OOC> Olek can do either.
<OOC> Malik says, "Munch?"
<OOC> Munch is fine either way. Getting eveyone together again might be a pain, so wrapping up might be best.
<OOC> Malik nodnods. :)
<OOC> Seldan says, "All right, I will do that. I am truly sorry."
<OOC> Malik says, "It's midnight fifteen on a work night on the east coast, lol."
<OOC> Malik says, "I think that's reasonable."
<OOC> Malik says, "Five hours is a haul."
<OOC> Munch says, "no worries. I'm pretty out of it myself. Thought I had TT earlier today, so stayed awake for that, only to find there;s a card turnement instead."
<OOC> Olek says, "Alas."

It doesn't take too much longer for the party to dispatch the flight of chimerae. They are a little the worse for wear, a little weary, and a lot messy after wearing that much blood, but Munch should still be able to find some usable wings in varying colors. The trip back is uneventful, if a bit slower than the trip up, and the moon is well up when the party returns.

<OOC> Seldan says, "All right. Thank you for coming, and for putting up with me. :)"
<OOC> Hun'rar says, "Thanks for running this, it was fun. Getting a good breath weapon off was satisfying."
<OOC> Malik says, "Very much!"
<OOC> Rhar says, "Thanks for letting me shake the dust off!"
GAME: Olek ends his rage.
GAME: Munch ends his rage.
GAME: Seldan removes the timestop.
Timestop by Seldan has left.
<OOC> Hun'rar noms and flees for bed.

Munch carefully harvests a selection of wings from the corpses, removing the joint sockets from the bodies, rather than merely cutting off the bones part way. The golem focus on intact selection over color, but the green and black garner a little more focus. Once prepared, the metal man tries attaching the selection to his own back. His tiny stubby wings react to the offering, turning gooey and liquid, grabbing on to the stumps and trying to meld, but the chimera flesh quickly dissolves under the assault of the effort. The green and black flesh do seem to last slightly longer, but sadly they too just aren;t quite durible enough for the golem's purposes.

"Dang.... well, we tried. Thank you all for your effort."

<OOC> Olek says, "Yes, thank you!"
<OOC> Munch nod-nods, was what i was hopeing for. Thank you!
<OOC> Munch isn't ready to level up just yet, so can't let it work just yet. BUT, adds another nice part to the story. :)
<OOC> Malik says, "Neat!"
<OOC> Olek says, "Sweet."
<OOC> Seldan says, "I'm glad it worked out. :)"
<OOC> Seldan says, "Any other poses before I cut the log and sleep?"

The wizard reappears once more, looking battered and burned. Apparently, whatever fight he was having up in the air wasn't going all that well for him. Summoning up a horse, he pulls himself sorely up to the saddle, then promptly turns around, falling asleep.

<OOC> Rhar doesn't have anything fancy.
<OOC> Olek is good. Not sure how else to sum up.
<OOC> Malik poofs off to bed himself. "Thanks! This was fun!"
