  • Title: Bangers and Mash
  • Emitter: Cryosanthia
  • Characters: Aryia, Culix, Dax, Smuldur
  • Place: A18: Port Alexandria, The Inmost Sea
  • Time: Sunday, June 20, 2021, 2:01 PM
  • Summary: Aryia is working, Culix is looking for her, and Smuldur is smitten and looking for that goblin gal he blew up with earlier. Aryia and Culix spot the guys from earlier going into the Steelbelter and follow them in. Inside, Dax is having breakfast, hung over, and sees a group gathering at a table, and then a Mul'niessa and a Goblin walk into the bar. Battle Ensues, with Culix blurred and moving in to backstab. Not one to miss a fight, Dax joins in on the nearest as Aryia stuns and knocks people unconscious, usually with the same punch. The Bar-staff are not consoled by Dax's reassurances, bloody orc-claws on her hands might have something to do with that, and they flee. As do the goblin crew that were drinking and playing darts. This is not the fun bar brawl, it's more a hit. Witnesses would be bad. The thugs are all down and the trio clear out as the patrollers show up, and the last thug... he makes an appearance too.

The Sea Walls of Alexandria have been called a Wonder of the World. So has its port. From here, one can see both--the walls, rising either side of the mighty Tornmawr River where it feeds into the Inner Sea, and the Port. A port of international envy, ships fill its waters in plenty, along with the Alexandrian Navy. To the south and all sides, the Inmost Sea stretches. To the North, the Sea Wall, and a great gate which leads to the shining city.

Overhead, flies the flag of the Phoenix. Atop the wall, massive artifice-lights shine out into the waters.

The Docks.

Towers of white clouds drift through skies like the souls of icebergs loosed on the living world, Unlike icebergs, all of them are visible and they aren't cooling in any useful way. Sunlight is reflected, everything is washed out in the glare.

The still air that has sat on Alexandria like felt blanket remains. Heavy, stuffy, hazy and hot, one sweats and it layers up on the skin like curdled milk, never evaporating. The dock-front smells are intensified by this particular marinade, and business continues as usual.

Merchant ships are loading, unloading. Fishing ships have either come in and their catch is being packaged or spread out for sale, or they have iced up and left and won't be back for a few days.

The posh docks of the aristocrats and their pleasure yatchs are -over there-, a separate section of the harbour. Unusually, the grey ship of the Temple of Vardama is out, showing some activity as it is being prepared. For something.

In the mundane world, boxes and barrels have to be moved, and loose threads have to be tied up or pulled.

Aryia finally returned to the docks after avoiding them for some time. Thankful she was to be welcomed back, and she resumed moving boxes as per usual, still, she couldn't help but be vigilant after her being nearly captured. At least moving boxes was one of her favorite, albeit boring, tasks. Even if it was muggy. And bright. Actually, this kind of sucks.

Culix is making her way along the docks once more, hood pulledup against the sun and prying eyes both, and hands stuffed into the pockets of her pants. Like Aryia, she's given the docks a wide berth, deciding to wait at least until her wounds healed up before returning. But return she does- and spies Aryia back at her usual dock work job while she's at it.

"Hey." Culix calls out after the Mul as she draws nearer. "Seen anything?" she asks, following her along as she works.

Always something to be moved! Sometimes smaller things, and with care! That's where Smuldur comes in. He gets to move all the things that aren't imported from 'Fraheelay,' wherever that is. Sounds Veyshanti. He skitters down a ramp... well, sort of. It's more a grunting as he drags a sturdy crate along behind him.

Inside of the Steelbelter, Dax is sitting, well, more like leaned over on a table with a hand in her hair to hold up her groggy face. She is currently getting her morning hang over out of the way with what can only be described as bottom of the barrel ale. Her eyes are looking around the bar, but it is more for whomever may be carrying around day old crusty bread that she can buy, eat, dip into her ale, you know, just like you do with cookies or steak. She's otherwise absorbed in her consumption of ale soaked dry bread.

Once she gets it, at least.

Aryia slots a box into position, her gaze underneath a straw hat narrowing towards the Steelbelter bar. She nods that way, glancing to Culix and forgoing a greeting.

The Steelbelter is one of the dock worker and shipwright bars. Regular, rough folk who work hard jobs and long hours. It's mostly empty at this time of day. Lunch is a rush, often newspaper wrappef fish and chips, picked up. The workers returning to their ships or not caring for each other's company. The rush is over.

A barmaid is keeping a sympathetic eye on Dax, "need anything hon? Beans and bacon'll help with that."

A barkeep has an eye on her and the few other customers.

Outside, the Steelbelter is about to get a few more. A Mul'niessa male who ought to know better is lurking along the edges of the waterfront buildings. A black spot against the sun-worn stone, creeping in a way that suggests he's up to something.

Two human thugs are better at being discrete, looking casual as they separately slip inside.

Although one, or all, have been noticed.

"I see 'em too." Culix says in response to Aryia then. "Don't plan on getting caught by surprise this time." she adds a moment later, and she takes her hands out of her pockets. She reaches under her cloak, to the back of her belt and a scrollcase, which she pops open with a thumb- though whatever is inside she doesn't get out just yet. Her hand resting on her belt does push her cloak back enough to show the daggers she has ready, too. And the crossbow she has just recently taken to carrying with her around the city. She keeps her eyes fixed on the Mul over at the bar. She makes no attempt at subtlety, outright staring him down.

The barmaid gets a squintish look, and Dax smiles at her, "Beans n' bacon'd be good fer the belly. And what's good fer the belly is good fer the ..." A pause, and she shakes her head, "Kinnit be soul, mind? That don't rhyme... does it?" A pause to dip bread into her ale again and chomp on the mushy mess, she thinks, hard, not getting very far. "Well, ya kno' what I mean. A yes, ta the food. A bit slow fer the middle of the..."

A pause to look toward the door as it opens, and some bright light ventures in, she grimaces a little then turns back to the barmaid, "Not night, no more. The other one... bright!" She exclaims, and grumbles while shaking her head, "An' some more bread, nothin' is better'n a full stomach 'fore more drinkin' fer what ails ya."

Aryia pulls her straw hat down and nudges Culix on the shoulder, a firm look on her faces. She points to herself, to Culix, then jabs a thumb over to them. Seeing if Culix wants to walk up on them and goes with her if so.

<OOC> Culix has 20% concealment so long as she moves at least 10' on her turn for the next Minute.

Culix nods her head in agreement with Aryia, "Yeah. I reckon so. Gonna try this thingy out, though." she says as she pulls the scroll from the case she unclipped. She infurls it in her hand, and then scans over the arcane words for a few moments, before she has a go at reading it. She gets a few words in and then shakes her head, "Oh wait, missed one..." and then she tries once more- this time she completes the incantation, but nothing happens, "Oh Lyrisae not Lyrisei." she grumbles. Finally, she reads out the scroll and it bursts into a brief gout of flame as its magical energies are released. "Let's go." she says, and then she starts towards the bar- her form flickers, leaving after-images as though she is an oil painting smearing her way through the world.

Two patrollers appear at one end of the street, heading closer. They'll pass along on the dockfront in a few minutes. They're alert, but clearly not after something. Yet.

The Mul'niessa continues his efforts to be unnoticed, failing miserably. He reaches the Steelbelter and slips inside. The Steelbelter is has glass windows, smoked opaque with the layers of grease on them. Old leaded glass, they have also turned a shade of mauve. The windows which aren't glass are oilpaper, and even harder to see through. There's a back door, which could be an alternate entrance or an emergency exit.

Inside, the Mul'niessa crosses the room to join the table the two humans have settled at. A third, with a serious face, has been waiting and glares at the Shadow Elf, "You look a right git. Knock that off."

The barmaid smiles brightly at Dax, saying, "Whetha tha storm Shugs, I'll getchya those things." She heads for the kitchen.

And in the back, a door is stuck on a stall, though someone won't notice that just yet.

The bar is getting more populated, and Dax just sort of raises her mug up in a friendly greeting to those who come on in. They wander over to a bar already with people, and if she were feeling more herself - which she might in a few minutes - she'd go and join her fellow dock mates. For now, though she's waiting on her food, and still chomping down on bread, eating it quickly with the wet absorption making it that much better. "Nothin' quite matches the fine flavorin' of hard bread soaked in..." She sniffs her mug, "Ale?" She shrugs a bit and sees a piece of bread floating on the inside of the mug so she drinks till she acquires that piece then settles it once more on the table. Oblivious to the more shady things that happen to be afoot.

Aryia, not being one who's best at these matters, defers to Culix and follows her lead, be it sneaky or a more, uh, straightforward approach.

Culix makes her way towards the front door, before she spies the back door. Culix thinks about it for a moment, but not knowing where exactly the other entrance leads, she decides the front door is the best option. And so she heads right for it, uncharacteristic for her perhaps- but she hasn't had the time to case this particular joint and the front door is as good as any when you don't know what you're walking into. Once inside, she'll start moving across the room at a brisk pace, keeping low, and relying on her unnaturally blurred movements to conceal her as she approaches the Mul and his companions, like a little green shade slithering along the bar.

The Steelbelter is mostly empty. There are two tables of goblins sitting near the windows. Drinking and playing darts. Sometimes they miss and the darts stick in the paper windows.

The table with the meeting is on the other side of the room.

Of course, with the noise coming from both sides and the door opening and letting the sun scream in, it might feel like everything is closing up around Dax. She's oblivious to whatever opened the door this time.

Make it stop.

A flicker on the edge of vision draws the attention of most of the humans at that table. They look up. It seems they overlooked Culix, but Aryia finds some very familiar faces looking at her.

The ambience in the Steelbelter changes. It's on.

The familiar faces look at her. She looks at them. They look at her.

Her fist looks right back at them. Without hesitation, Aryia dashes forward and delivers a wound up haymaker that clocks the mul'neissa that took her down last time.

Aryia whistles loudly and claps her hands before beckoning at them, her fists raised.

All of these people seem sketchy. Organized crime sketchy. Also, the blue goblins don't seem connected, they're startled too.

The bacon and beans gets delivered, Dax is saying, "Thanks..." It all feels suddenly like it is all in slow motion. The door opens, bright light, she groans and looks away just in time to see... some elf bursting forward toward people at a table. A fight? Wait, a fight?! And that starts some encouragement, enough to chew more quickly the chunk of beans soaked ale drenched bread in her mouth. The hands that get lifted, they belong to someone she kind of knows, and she is giving a small wave to her as she goes charging in, turning her head to watch where she heads, where she punches. Smile creeping onto her lips, a bar fight!

Culix keeps low when the folks at the bar spy Aryia, and she readies her dagger to give the first one to come at her a nasty surprise. And then Aryia bullrushes the one who knocked her out last time, and Culix clicks her tongue. "Guess that works too." she mutters under her breath, and then she moves closer to the upcoming fight- her dagger sweeps up towards one of the other thugs she recognizes from that day at the docks, but as the shadow resolves with her dagger pluged into her gut- it's caught in something. Hardened leather, or chainmail perhaps. She clicks her tongue again.

The barmaid is straightening up as the first punch is thrown. Her eyes go wide.

"Sofi! Get behind the bar!" The barkeep orders, although he's slow to react as well.

The goblins, into their drinks and darts, are equally startled.

"What the? What!" The thug is standing, knocking his chair free and reaching for his sap after his eyes lock with Aryia's. He's attacked by a blur! His dagger comes out too.

"You idiot, you were followed." The man meeting the three casts a quick spell. The arcane gestures and syllables are an odd contrast to his rough build. His muscles bulge. "Take 'em down."

The other human thug, the one that leans against walls and doesn't catch fire, leaps from his chair and heads for the back exit. At the last moment, he circles around another table and pulls his short sword.

"This one's mine! Leave her to me." The Mul'niessa growls, shaking off Aryia's attack, but still feeling the pain." <sildanyari> "You're an idiot." The caster says, glancing at the other two, and nodding.

Noticing the other one getting up, she twirls to the side to keep them from getting behind her. Aryia lays into the slaver, anger building with each strike. She pulls her punches. Only just a little bit. She had to figure out the deeper connection to it all.

She snarls at him at the challenge, her reaching forward and grabbing them by the collar. Her head snaps forward once, breaking his nose, twice, then grabs the mul by the skull and slams it into the wall beside her.

The pugilist drops them at her feet and glares daggers at the others, jaw clenched and the other's blood dripping off her chin.

The Mul hits the wall, then the floor. He drools. And bleeds. A satisfying amount.

With people she knows getting ... well, attacking, Dax stands up quickly, tossing back some of her ale and smacking it down on the table. She looks to the barmaid quickly and says, "Watch this will ya?" Pointing to her beans and bacon, before she moves forward, her Orcish Claws ready as she just strolls up to someone she's never met before's back. And, she shoves one of the claws in, then turns with a spin, slashing along the back with her other one. "Oi! Ya alright over there?" Pulling her claws out with a twist, the fellow she just stabbed in the back drops, starting to bleed out all over the bar's floor and leaving her weapons dripping with blood.

Culix's head darts to the caster when he begins casting his spell, and she grits her teeth. She dives for the table, rolling underneath it away from any counterattack from the one she failed to stab who was just now drawing his blade. Those strange after-images chase her, blurring her outline and making it hard to tell exactly where she is while she moves, which is why it comes as a complete surprise when the blurry, etherial trails catch up rather suddenly to her dagger- once more, caught in the rings of a chainmail undershirt, pressed up against the spellcasters spine.

"Shit! Ah! Shit!" Sofi shouts, pulling a dagger from... somewhere. She's got some unusual barmaid clothes. She's not joining the fight. Instead, she vaults over the counter to get behind the bar. "Jeoldric! They're killig each other."

The barkeep grabs something else from under the bar, reaching a little further.

THUMP!

A heavy crossbow, that he's drawing back on, "Stand down!"

Meanwhile, the goblins are turning around, sliding off seats. Fists were coming up, but they grab for daggers on their belts.

The human thug watches Aryia slam his fellow traveller against the wall with an amused sneer. No comments, it's just business. If anything, he seems amused. Until his contact is attacked by a blur that came out from under the table. He steps over, stabs and swings.

His dagger misses, his sap clocks Culix on the head, almost the same place he hit her last time. Just business.

Meanwhile, their contact continues to cast something else. Ducking and weaving like a master, his motions are surprisingly efficient. Perfect. His spell goes off.

"Leave or Die." He tells the goblin, that's what everyone else hears. She sees a wolf-like face emerge from his, rushing towards her with giant teeth and a snarling, "LEAVE OR DIE!"

Instead she hops forward, getting some leverage to punch down on the caster. Her grabbing them by the shoulder and ramming her knee into their side a couple of times, only one really connecting.

With a nonchalant step over the body of the bleeding bandit before her, Dax continues moving. She offers a passing wave to the barkeep, and a not so side comment of, "It'll be over soon, don't get yer knickers in a bundle." And she just walks right up to the other thug who's nearby Culix. She has no clue why these folks are being attacked, or why they are attacking the small ones, but - she has some sense of duty. And that results in another... backstab? She punches her claws forward, they momentarily stick out the front of the guy, before she pulls it back and let's him crumple like a sack of potatoes. "Nice'ta see ya 'gain, ya two. Her look of shocked fear is quickly replaced with one of anger, "How bout you fucking leave!" she snaps back at him, lunging forwards she lifts her dagger up and plunges it into his sternum, burying it to the hilt. "And leave us the fuck alone!" she adds then. "You fucked me! You sent me to prison! You had somene stick me seventeen times when I was in there!" she bellows, spittle on her pointed teeth as- despite her height- she somehow begins to loom in towards the assailant. They weren't convinced by the drunken human's reassurances. She's wielding weapons usually associated with orcs, seems quite happy with all the blood, and it looks like three of the four targets are down already.

The goblins file out in a disorganized mess, but they're good at exiting bars. They pour through the entrance, doors banging the walls as they rush out.

Getting out of the Steelbelter seems like a good idea to the caster also. Abandonning his colleagues, he steps over the fallen Mul'niessa, a move that leaves him open to Aryia.

Just as the last one tries to slip away, she grabs them by the collar, yanks them back, and pulls them right onto her elbow to the back of their skull. There's a dull 'crack', and she lets them drop to the ground. "B-tch," she spits, dusting her hands off.

Aryia jabs a thumb to the others they dropped and sputters out, "F-x. K-p -ve."

GAME: Cryosanthia rolls initiative for Patrollers: Roll: 15 + Bonus: 0 = Total: 15

Outside, goblins are scattering.

As the last one falls, Aryia hops over the fallen ones and heads for the one that had it's back rent open. She pats them about, finding the cut wasn't as bad as one thought. She whistles at the party and gives them a thumbs up and points to this one. Then makes a jabbing motion towards the one that got impaled.

There's not much left to do as the barkeep is starting to freak out, the goblins are running everywhere. It's pretty much your standard bar visit, Dax shakes her claws to get rid of most of the blood. "These fellas were bad, I'm guessin'?" To both Culix and Aryia. With the commotion though, it feels like it is time to get out of here. She wipes her claws off on one of the nearby bleeding folks, you know, in a spot where they didn't bleed. "Was this a sanctioned attack, or should I be grabbin' my food ta go?"

"Leave them for the law, they'll be here late as usual." Culix replies to Aryia then, and she climbs over the one Dax half gutted next to her. She emits a shrill whistle to the barman, she pulls out another dagger, cuts the string on a purse, and tosses it over the bar. "For damages!" she calls out, and then nods her head towards the back door. "We best leave." she says. Dax gets a glance, "Ebon Syndicate grunts." she tells Dax. "But I don't trust the guard to take my word over them what're greasing their palms, so I'd get the lead out if I were you." she tries the back door once she reaches.

It's not locked. It's business hours. Bad business.

<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "rather than cycle the inits, you can specify how many rounds you stick around doing things."
<OOC> Dax says, "I'm just going to grab my food, and leave out the back after Culix and presumably Aryia."
<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "Culix is, this round to get outside, and Dax too, so that's 1 also."
<OOC> Aryia says, "aryia tries to stabilize number 2, rifles through 5's stuff to find information, and bolts"
<OOC> Aryia says, "might just cut off their bag if they have one and take it instead of rifle through it"
<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "okay, that's 3 rounds for Aryia. I will make some poses and you will need to make some poses"
<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "yeah, 6 seconds is more like 'cut the bag and start for the door', instead of rifling, so still 3 rounds really."
<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "Dax and Culix, do you wait on the other side of the door, or book it, it's 1 more round for you to get off the map and escape, but if you stick around to do things, other things might happen."
<OOC> Culix is waiting to make sure Aryia is following.
<OOC> Dax will only wait on Aryia, so probably in the doorway.
<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "okay, confirming that you're saying inside while waiting on Aryia,"
<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "so there's a chance to be spotted if someone comes through before she's done. Culix is ... well waiting also? Okay, make poses."
<OOC> Dax says, "I don't think the barmaid, barkeep or goblins will much forget the redhead with orcish claws and the giant tattoo. <-is a bit distinct."

To her table then, Dax moves over to her table and grabs up her food. She gets the bread, and she puts that on the plate, and then starts heading toward the back door while multi-tasking. Eat as she goes, good thing she's not really running. Looking back though, she sees not everyone is headed toward the door so she hangs out. On the inside of the door, waiting on Aryia while quickly consuming bacon and beans.

The coins land on the bar. The barkeep and the barmaid are in the kitchen and smart enough to stay away from the serving windows where they might be glimpsed. If they haven't left the building already.

The goblins have left the building, and exhibiting some social responsibility can be heard shouting, "Don't go in dere, they'z murderizing people!"

Knowing that time was of the essence, (and frowning a bit at the fact no one stopped for one of the thugs), the mul bolts over to the impaled thug and turns them over. Picking up a dagger, she cuts off a large strip of their shirt and ties it off over the wound tightly. Looks like it worked. She skitters over the ground, sawing off a bag, pouch, something, anything that would make this altercation worth it. Information, she needed information why they were looking for her again.

With her prize in hand, she discards the dagger with a shudder and sprints towards the back door.

<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "okay. Dax and Culix, if you want to pose waiting then exiting."
<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "also, if you're going 'away and off the map' or sneaking around the building."
<OOC> Dax says, "I'm going to follow Culix and Aryia just to make sure they 'get away safe' and sound, and then I can bother them another time about what is what."

"Ebon sin-duh-cut? I ain't heard of them." Dax admits, as she is eating her food about as quick as humanly possible. She settles the plate, doesn't want to steal that after all, and just takes her bread along for the ride. She is chomping down on it as she follows the mul and gobbo, she's not that sneaky but also not the loudest human ever. Her mouth is busy chewing, after all, else she would be.

Culix pauses by the door after confirming that it opens, "Come on, if they get put away we can go visit 'em!" Culix calls after Aryia as she tends to their wounds, but she doesn't leave without the Mul. Once Aryia does start heading for the door, she ducks through it and pulls her cloak tight as she dashes through the alleyways and away from the maligned bar. That's one watering hole she won't be welcome at anymore.

Aryia looks thankful for the two holding up for her, but as they start to leave, Culix goes one way, being careful, and Aryia goes a complete opposite direction. She sprints fast, far strides. The mul skids to a halt to turn, the elf flashing a thumbs up down the alleyway for running further into a different labyrinth.

They're away! Easy enough to escape through the back alleys of the docks.

It's a good thirty seconds more before the patrollers burst in, weapons ready. "Stand down! Show yourselves!"

Silence. The bar is empty. All the thugs are lying on the floor, unconscious.

Except... one. Walking out of the bathroom and drying his hands on a towel. He stops. Freezes. Stares.

The guards look at him. He looks at the guards.

There's going to be some explaining to do...

<OOC> Aryia says, "omg cyro did the last one finally get out of the bathroom"

<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "I try to keep combat rounds snappy. When your Init comes up, if I haven't heard from you in 5 minutes and we're working on your turn, then I'll move on to the next, and your Init will either move lower or your turn will be skipped if we wrap around to you again. Generally we work out what you're doing OOC, the rolls are made, and I move to the next while you put together the IC pose of the results." <OOC> Cryosanthia nods, "I will ask for rolls, but sometimes I won't because it would be too much of a hint, so feel free to 'would a diplomacy or k/local apply here?' Also, I allow for creative use of Craft/Profession/Perform to apply under certain circumstances. ie: craft/brewer works in place of diplomacy at Oktoberfest, kind of thing." <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "apologies for the slightly more OOC than usual, but wanted to get Dax on the same page all, and it never hurts to have it refreshed. Working on the set-pose now. As you're pirate-y Dax, you likely won't need too much of a reason to be at the docks, but think of why you might be. Culix, Smuldur and Aryia have a couple reasons already."

Culix and the Scroll <OOC> Culix is going to attempt to use a scroll of blurred movement with Use Magic Device. DC is 20+CL(1) <OOC> Aryia apologies for curt poses, on mobile and can't be as flowery like normal <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "if you want to put a distracted pose in of some sort Smuldur" <OOC> Culix says, "Shall I roll it?" <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "I thought those rolls were painfully more, like a UMD if it's not on your spell list, and then another UMD if your stat, Wis, isn't high enough to cast the spell, then also a UMD to do the spell." <OOC> Culix says, "According to the page, Use a Scroll is 20 + CL" <OOC> Culix says, "Oh need minimum appropriate ability score, too, but I have plenty of int." <OOC> Culix says, "Int 18" <OOC> Cryosanthia nods, Normally, to cast a spell from a scroll, you must have the scroll's spell on your class spell list. Use Magic Device allows you to use a scroll as if you had a particular spell on your class spell list. The DC is equal to 20 + the caster level of the spell you are trying to cast from the scroll. In addition, casting a spell from a scroll requires a minimum score (10 + spell level) in the appropriate ability. If you don't have a sufficient score in that ability, you must emulate the ability score with a separate Use Magic Device check. <OOC> Culix says, "Right. But it's a level 1 wizard spell, and I have an int of 18, only need 11, so don't need to emulate it." <OOC> Cryosanthia nods, "Okay, so seems like DC21 then." GAME: Culix rolls use magic device: (11)+8: 19 <OOC> Culix says, "Fails, but no mishap." <OOC> Cryosanthia nods, "you can keep going." GAME: Culix rolls use magic device: (7)+8: 15 <OOC> Culix says, "one more try and then Culix will give up." <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "we're not in rounds, you'll have to pose it not working a few times. Try again. You're hoping for not a 1, which would ruin the scroll" <OOC> Cryosanthia nods GAME: Culix rolls use magic device: (17)+8: 25 <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "I was looking these rules over for Lars and myself. Okay, third times the charm." <OOC> Aryia thinks spell scroll rules are needlessly complicated <OOC> Aryia says, "and yay it worked" <OOC> Cryosanthia nods to Aryia.

Culix using Stealth <OOC> Dax says, "Interesting all the things I forgot. You can use stealth while in combat? I'll have to read up more later. Not that I have stealth..." <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "She has a blur up, which provides concealment" <OOC> Culix says, "So long as you have cover or concealment, you can re-establish stealth, yeah." <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "and there was a table to go under" <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "and she's a goblin, so it's over her head" <OOC> Dax says, "I'll have to pull up the srd someday and look over stealth again. :)" You paged Dax with 'I don't think she's pulling a fast one on me but it is something I've never seen before and Donna uses blur a lot.' Dax pages: I don't know if it matters here, since Culix isn't making good rolls either way. Under stealth it says, "Breaking Stealth When you start your turn using Stealth, you can leave cover or concealment and remain unobserved as long as you succeed at a Stealth check and end your turn in cover or concealment. Your Stealth immediately ends after you make an attack roll, whether or not the attack is successful (except when sniping as noted below)." So, I dunno. You paged Dax with 'she's using stealth to get her sneak attack bonus' You paged Dax with 'so she'd be visible now that she's attacked, that's a good point, but the guy needed to see her to not be flat footed.' Dax pages: You're the DM. :) I was just curious, not concerned. <OOC> Culix pictures Blurred Movement as looking like the Half-Dead Necromunga leader guy from Chronicles of Riddick You paged Dax with 'Good points, which I'll think about. I try not to do huge amounts of research in scene. Thanks.' From afar, Dax noddles, "Good idea. I'm just relearning the system is all, and online there's apparently a debate on this."

On Frightened and cornered. <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "at least the situation worked out so Culix could" <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "failing the fear save would have sucked" <OOC> Culix says, "Well, so long as it was fear not panic, I was cornered" <OOC> Aryia says, "it would be a good follow up, a prison visit" <OOC> Culix says, "And you can lash back when cornered with fear. With panic you just drop everything and curl up." <OOC> Culix says, "And as for visiting them, Culix is a member of the guild of the sly, so she was planning on visiting them off the books." <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "well you still had a way out and #2 was dropped pretty quick" <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "under the table the way you tumbled in" <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "so not really cornered" <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "plus are you ever really cornered with acrobatics? I used it to escape when I was surrounded by 8 demons once, tempting an awful lot of AOOs" <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "nat 20 saved my life."

We wish we had a more murdery game <OOC> Dax says, "Well, this is what happens when a morally questionable drunkard does the social rolls. ;P" <OOC> Culix honestly wouldn't mind more murderhobo shenanigans now and then around here ;P <OOC> Aryia isn't one to murderhobo but if they die then oh well <OOC> Culix says, "I mean there's a fine line, because an always sunny in faerun campaign always runs the risk of the party ending up standing outside of a burning orphenage with an army of skeleton knights and being like, "Oh, right, weren't we meant to be killing the demon lord?"" <OOC> Dax says, "If they didn't want to die, they'd not of drawn weapons to defend themselves." <OOC> Aryia says, "that's some backwards logic, dax lol" <OOC> Culix says, "Culix used a sap the first time, then someone stabbed her in the back with a shortsword, at which point the gloves are off XD" <OOC> Dax says, "It's Dax logic, for sure. :D"

Attempting a Withdraw <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "Culix's Goblin diplomacy convinced the Caster to Withdraw, so he should get double his move away. However, there are goblins, also withdrawing, and I don't think 8 drunken goblins can get through a door that fast, but they're also not hostile to him, so they could share space, be squeezed and I can't think what would be a good roll" <OOC> Dax says, "In terms of the thugs you all are attacking, at least." If we're talking #5, he'd start off not threatened, but there's no where he can go from there that doesn't pass -some- threatened squares, right?" <OOC> Culix says, "Right, withdraw only stops you from provoking in the square you start in." <OOC> Aryia says, "yeah he's kinda screwed unless he passes a rough acrobatics check lol" <OOC> Dax says, "Sorry, don't slow down for the question. Just thinking 'aloud'." <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "Withdraw your first square you move into doesn't count as threatened, so he can go over #1, then diagonal away and straight up" <OOC> Aryia says, "and no worries Cryo c:" <OOC> Cryosanthia says, "oh you're right, I read that wrong"

Summary: Aryia is working, Culix is looking for her, and Smuldur is smitten and looking for that goblin gal he blew up with earlier. %r%rCharacter levels: 4: Aryia 3,Culix 3, Dex (ftr5), Smuldur (afk before fight) %r%rType of PrP: Standard with combat %r%rEncounters: %xy%xhCR6, XP2400%xn with CR 6, XP2400 neutrals %r %xc%xhHostile%xn %r (1) CR 1 XP 400 Bullying Brawler (mk2) as Thug #1, Mul'niessa %r (1) CR 1 XP 400 Thug (rg2) as #2, Human %r (1) CR 1 XP 400 Street Thug (f1,r1) as #3, Human %r (1) CR 1 XP --- Legbreaker (wr1,ft1) as Trav, Thug #4, (afk before fight) %r (1) CR 3 XP 800 Enforcer as the Capone %r%r %xc%xhNeutral%xn, will only get involved if attacked. %r (1) CR3 Barkeep XP 800 as %r (1) CR3 Barmaid XP 800 as Sofi, the Barmaid %r (8) CR 1/2, XP100 Goblin Chitterback as goblins, no spiders %r%rPurchases: Culix used a scroll. %r%rLasting effects: Dax and Culix building a bad rep with the guards. There was some debate over how Use Magic Device is used, in conjuction with scrolls. My understanding is that it requires 2 to 3 rolls. 1) To emulate a Casting Class, 2) To cast the spell, and 3) if necessary to emulate the attribute of the casting class at a high enough level to cast the spell. Culix told me first it was only one roll, then argued that she still only needed one roll at the DC to cast the spell, emulating a caster with her rogue was not required, and her Int was high enough. I thought Rogue's required feats to emulate casters automatically. In any case, her Int was, so that eliminated the third and let her do one roll so I could move on.

%r%rStealth. Culix was using blur, which provides concealment if she moves significantly on a turn. She argued this concealment was enough to establish stealth, and she'd be able to maintain it and use sneak attack even if she was effectively 'in the open'. She neglected to mention she'd drop stealth after an attack. One of the other players reminded me this is only the case for sniping, with a position.

%r%rFear and Cornered: Culix was hit by a fear spell, and made the save. She commented that she was 'cornered' so even if she had failed, she would still be able to attack and not flee. She was in a position she tumbled into, and while it was a corner there were open directions. I also stated that I doubt anyone is 'cornered' if they have an acrobatic skill, as I have used it several times to escape, risking AOOs. It was moot, but it was still a rules minutae discussion, and this 'cornered counters frightened' loophole was not in the standard Status Condition descriptions nor anything I had heard before.

%r%rI kept most of the OOC related to these things. %r%rPrP log: %r%rOther: See RP notes. Thurid is a great GM and very knowledgeable. This session felt like she was playing 'gotchya'. Also, she and Dax were a little murdery and there was some OOC discussion about 'too goody campaigns'. It's fine, I get they want to be John Wick. It seemed they were very close to murdering people who might need to die in an obvious place in an obvious way. Wasn't to the point there would be consequences.

Again, some very creative use of magic items by the PCs. The NPCs were stock, out of the Paizo beastiary and frankly not up to it. A 'boss' was again unable to escape. I may just start giving them teleport tokens if they're important enough, these guys weren't. An effort to be fair to them, and have the guy hung up on the doorway was a lot on-the-fly system and it turned out to be unnecessary as I read the withdraw rules incorrectly and the guy couldn't get far enough away from the PCs without them having AOOs, and Aryia took him down.

So, no one died, but a bit too much rules lawyering for me to have fun in what I was expecting to be a non-lethal fight with some grappling. It took me a little longer than usual to write up because I was feeling meh about it all. I was not really looking to be the GM for the Ebon Syndicate so I don't know how far I want to go with this even though two or three of the players seem interested in continuing. It's a decent enough excuse for muggings though.
