  • Title: All Eyes on Me
  • Emitter: Cryosanthia
  • Characters: Cryosanthia, Seldan, Seyardu, Aryia, Aya, Galidor
  • Place: A10: Temple District
  • Time: Sunday, July 25, 2021, 7:49 PM
  • Summary: Cryosanthia has finished giving out Ice-cones at the Temple Fountain when Seldan arrives. He chastizes Little Fang for stealing all the coins out of the fountain. She throws them back in. Seyardu, Aryia and Aya arrive. Cryo is in an exceptionally good mood and has good news, which she teasingly will not share. She tells Seldan to ask his kin, then begs off the others and departs with a bouncy step and a watchful Kobold stole. The others talk about her reluctance, then topics switch to darker news. The observation window on the Temple House remains uncovered. Seldan goes into the Temple of Eluna to change, and leave a message. With him gone, the others notice that the Lancer is standing on top of Seldan's Temple, watching them. Seyardu and Aya leave for the Temple of Daues, and gather some Sunblades but hold them back. Aya shadowsteps up to confront the Lancer. This goes... curiously. Lancer Tafetha seems both very real and like an illusion, responsive but not responding to Aya's taunts. Frustrated, the Mul'niessa returns to her former location, where Galidor is helpfully cleaning out the fountain's coins. Between the silver and the gold scaled, there isn't much attention to go around and what is left is searching for the vanished Lancer.

The air of solemn, heavy divinity in the area is often broken by laughter. The dual presence of the deities Althea and Daeus, man and wife, stand towards the center, with their children and their children's temples positioned around them. The presence of the divine is felt not only by their temples, but also by the actions of their worshipers. The great plaza is as a social center, paved in brilliant, white flagstones and covered in benches and sitting areas. Priests, acolytes, and servicefolk of all stripes roam the plaza, going from one task to the other.

At the front of the temples of Daeus and Althea, at the Plaza's centermost point, rests a great fountain, the cheerful waters reflecting the Sun during the day, and the Moon and Stars at night. The fountain is strategically centered, and is oft a place for wisdom and lesson-giving. It is not uncommon for a priest of some stripe or the other to stand there, surrounded by the curious and faithful, delivering messages of hope or contemplation. At other times, it and the plaza become a landscape of celebration of the holy holidays.

Few vendors are seen in the plaza--the nearby temples provide most food or services. Towards the west, the great Bridge stretches across the river, and towards the east, the Redridge mountains. The plaza rests in the midst of it all, the temples massive and grand on the Alexandrian scale.

It's warm, overcast with grey skies. Rain has been intermittent and light, off and on all day.

It was off when the whitescale arrived and set up to make ice-cones. It's starting up again and also getting late in the afternoon. It's still light, but there are only a few hours left. "C'mon Lily, out of the water."

"Nooooooo." Her pink-scaled youngling says, swimming around the fountain, "Coinssss."

"They're not your coins, Lily, they're for luck, and it's bad luck to take someone else's." Cryo says, putting her syrup bottle into a wrap and rolling it up, then slipping that into her Haversack.

The rain appears to only minimally bother another figure, making their way from the festival grounds where the sounds of horses and arms practice are dying off for the day, the more precipitously so when the rain resumed. Seldan is liberally bespeckled with mud and carries both practice and live weapons, and smells of sweat, mud, horse, and steel, his hair slicked back from his face with the usual silver band.

He's about to head for the temple, but pauses, thinks better of it, and with a quiet frown diverts in the direction of the fountain. "Peace upon your nests," he offers to both Cryosanthia and the youngling.

It was a day that was free of the heat wave that had taken the city so many days in the past. And such a day meant that many people would be up to stopping by the various temples, more than usual. And so the sith-makar relented and did what she could to help at the temple of Althea, having been staying in the nearby temple of late regardless, and overhearing a few requests being made. It was past the worst of it now, so She was sitting on the steps outside, watching the fountain, and looking up at a few of the buildings. What they heard were only ones with reports, was there more without any?

Oh, and Cryosanthia. She offers the white sith-makar and her child a wave from where she sat.

It was a warm day, with a nice sky that only the sun sensitive would truly enjoy. Aryia wanted a break from her routine. The past events made her wary of her usual spaces. Doubly so after nearly dying over it. And a discussion with a certain tailor made her, at least, try.

Walking down the road is a scarred mul'neissa, going on a stroll. A loop around the city. Instead of their usual layman attire, she had on a green dress trimmed with gold colored trim, complete with full sleeves and gloves. She spotted Cryo, and the pink-scale youngling, before walking over a bit awkwardly. "P-s - - n-st," she hisses out, just catching Seyardu with a wave. Seldan gets a wave as well before fidgeting with her hands.

"See Lily, you took too long and the Silverguard caught you stealing." Cryo says teasingly, watching Lily splash and throw all her collected coins back into the fountain, "rressting in my handsss!"

That is sure to clear everything up.

"Peace on your Nest, Seldan. Thiss one has wonderful news, though perhaps she will let your kin tell you."

The whitescale returns the silverscale's wave, and as she's turn is both splashed by youngling climbing her and greeted by Aryia, "Peace on your nest also. Good to see you as well."

She glances at the small group, "Was a meeting planned?"

The sith and mul'niessa gathering at the fountain; what would likely be a novel sight anywhere but Alexandria (and possibly still generally uncommon). The count is increased by one as Aya appears to further witness Lily's transgressions. She tsks from near the carnation scale. "You may well be doomed, now." To Cryosanthia, she starts to offer "Peace-" though stops short at the announcement of news.

Seyardu stretched, taking a moment to get to her feet before she was walking over to catch the conversation. There was a swish of their tail as Cryosanthia spoke, and she nodded. " Peace on your nests, everyone. Wonderful news? That is good to hear, Cryosanthia. That is always a welcome thing, and feels in short supply here at times. Though I know not of a meeting planned."

She looks to Aryia, looking curious for a moment, before she nods. "You purchased new clothes, it seems? The fabric looks nice. This one acquired sleeves recently, for changing the shape of clothes."

"Even so?" Seldan's eyebrows lift towards his hairline, and he fixes Lily with a stern gaze. "The coins in the fountain do not belong to you, and they are not yours merely because they are there. Remember, do the guards see or no, do the priests see or no, the gods see, and by your actions shall you be judged." He musters his best Stern Paladin Face(tm), a fair imitation of the expression, and crosses his arms across his chest. "I do not doubt that you have been taught better."

The mention of news defuses the incipient lecture, though, and he leaves it at that, instead turning to Cryosanthia and the others. "Her light upon your path, all of you. I shall be sure to inquire, do I see him. I have not so done, not in some days, but it is as the Hearthguard says. Oft is wonderful news in too short supply, here in Alexandria, and some would be welcome."

The whitescale smells very happy, her scents have never been this strong before.

Is taking in everyone joining, her fidgeting with her green sleeves. It looks as if she is going to inquire, but she flinches from the sudden appearance of Aya. One of these days, she'd catch that mul!

Aryia sighs and shaking her head and gesturing a small "Thanks. S-A-N-D-I made it." Largely ignoring the lecture(tm), her attention shifts back to Cryo and whatever news she had. <Handspeech>

"Yesss..." Lily replies to Seldan, and then turns and hides her head. There were a lot of words, some of them sounded angry. She got the gist, even if her tradespeech isn't perfect. She agrees and hopes the attention goes elsewere.

"This one would have you hear from him," Cryo says, bouncing in place, her tail swaying from side to side, she sounds genuinely cheerful, so as cheerful as she usually seems without all the work behind it. "I am sure he will share soon."

She grins at Aya and Aryia, "I'll tell you both soon too, when Seldan isn't here. I'm glad you've both met. Peace also, Aya."

Cryo looks towards the mountain road, "This one was heading home, it's getting past someone's bedtime." She pauses, answering no one in particular, "it's something I'm afraid to speak lest it break. Which is utterly superstitious, but... I'll tell you soon."

"Sandy? The one with the tailor's shop in the market?" Seyardu asks. "This one was still wishing to purchase a hat from her, one of these days. It has been on my mind, but pushed back."

She turns to Aya and nods, and to Seldan as well. She seemed to think for a moment, tail swishing quickly back and forth. And she smiled as she spoke again.

"Speak of it or not, this one is happy regardless, Cryosanthia." She says, unused to working her speech around the smile. "But regardless, this one is glad to see you so happy today, that is great news on its own. Peace on your nest, Cryosanthia, Lily. This one may stop by today, or tomorrow, I have been meaning to see you, but things have been in the way."

The silverscale seems to reciprocate the scent, smells happy herself upon picking up how Cryo was feeling.

"Mistress Sandy's work is well worth the coin," Seldan agrees, although Cryosanthia gets a long, curious look from him. The lecture is done, he turns his attention away from the child and back to the others. "There was a time when I was most hard on my clothing, and she was quite patient with me, for very reasonable prices. She still is, and well do I recommend her work."

Only then does he speak. "I see. You seem most pleased, and that is well, so I shall await his word, and pry no further." The curiosity is thre anyway.

Aryia seems a bit confused by Cryosanthia's news. Or lack thereof. "O... okay...?" What was the point of saying there was news then never actually sharing it? "Yes. She helped me a lot, actually." <Handspeech>

"Yes, I am." Cryo is all grins, which also means all teeth, though she tilts her head away so they're not as obvious. She has quite the bound in her step, on the verge of breaking into a run, she waves to all.

An almost correct 'fight hard' sign is made to Aryia, and the whitescale explains, "it's a dramatic concept, introducing a topic to build tension rather than the topic itself."

She is a performer. "This one wants Seldan to ask, and not to tell him. Anyhow, Peace on your nests all."

Lily rides on her pack, holding her Ssassa's horns and hanging her head upside down so she can watch everyone receed. She's the eyes in the back of Cryo's head as the pair head towards the mountain road.

Soon, they are out of sight.

Aryia is so confused.

The silverscale waved to Cryosanthia and lily as they took off, smiling to Lily until they were out of sight. Then they were gone, and Seyardu turns to the group still there.

"Well, as I said, news or no, it is good to see them so happy. Don't worry too much about it, Aryia. She would not have told you if she did not intend to later, This one, I think. Your kin, Seldan?" She asks, turning to the paladin. And then to Aya, before she fell silent. Perhaps better not to poke further for the time being.

Aya's head turns to watch the departing scales before turning back. "It is good. As the Silverguard shared, there is often far less pleasant news than ill."

"She refers to Zeke," Seldan explains, watching the pair go, uncrossing his arms and resting his wooden practice blade over his shoulder. "It is as we have said. Zeke and I may not share blood, but we may as well be brothers. My own brother fled when I was a child. If she is pleased, and he is pleased, then well am I pleased, does he share the news or no. It is in my mind that she intended to tease me." _Brat._ "Pleasant news will not go amiss, for has there been enough ill news of late."

The explanation only further makes Aryia confused, a bit bordering on annoyance. "That's called a secret, not news," she signs at Cryosanthia, a bit exasperated. They were walking away, and she was left wanting for good news. She turns to the Seyardu, "Then why not wait until later? I- bah, whatever." Aryia gives up and throws the topic away, physically with her signs. <Handspeech>

"Z-E-E-K? Is that the one with the crystal arm?" she asks, rubbing her head. <Handspeech>

Good news is scarce and hard to come by. Bad news is all around. There's a remind of bad news, just within sight of the fountain for those that recall discovering it and know the significance. A small attic window, which from this distance, does not appear boarded over.

"Zeke, and Cryosanthia." Seyardu says, mostly to herself. "If they do not wish to speak of it yet, then this one will wait until Cryosanthia wishes to share. It is because by not speaking of it right away, you can dwell on the happiness for some time until it is shared. Which, given things of late, is not a bad thing."

She looks to the fountain, and sighs, settling down just a bit. "He is the blue sith-makar, with the crystal arm. It almost feels wrong though, to break the happiness just now, with news which should be shared, less pleasant."

As if for the first time, Seldan finally watches the signs, and seeing them reminds him of something. He quickly chants a spell, one of the rings on his hand glowing, and when it is done, he turns towards Aryia. "I would ask your forgiveness, my lady, I do not yet understand the hand language, and the spell aids me."

He glances up and around, towards the attic window, and scowls blackly. "Addled fool," he murmurs, but swiftly enough, turns back to the others. "Yes, there is less pleasant news, but in truth do I not wish to cause an uproar."

Aya notes Seldan's glance, and is familiar enough to have the context for his comment. She looks between him and Seyardu. "If there are other unrelated concerns or events that need shared, doing so doesn't diminish the pleasant. What news is this?" If someone must ask, or receive blame, she may as well make that effort.

Aryia doesn't sign anything further, though she fidgets on her feet and grows impatient as another topic of news is broaching and none speak of it. She glances to the attic that they look to, but doesn't pay it much mind.

Seyardu too, glances to the attic, seeing the very, very grimy window, though it was not opaque enough for her to not see it hadn't been boarded. "I would not be surprised if he forgot to do it, but I still worry." Seyardu notes quietly. "I will speak more about it, though it likely best not to be here, I agree with Seldan, I do not wish to cause uproar, and they may have other places to watch. Perhaps one of the temples, or somewhere else to continue? It concerns you as well, Aya."

"This area is watched," Seldan warns darkly, with another glance up at the attic window. "I know not if they hear us, or if they are there right now. I think it unlikely, unless they are most brazen. "The devils have set up refuges and hideouts across the city."

"A moment, I must rectify this." Seldan takes another look at that window, then heads over to the Temple of Eluna and enters. He very likely ducked into the temple to change.

Aryia glances back at the window, her narrowing her eyes before turning her back to it. "I saw something in the window. I guess it might have been them" Her frame turns tense. <Handspeech>

Seyardu turns to the mul'niessa, not looking back to the window. Her gaze turns downwards. "It is likely not the home owner at that window." She says simply with a shake of her head. "It is likely best not for us to continue as a group here. It can be discussed at another time, when it would not be odd for us to suddenly meet and go to a temple."

"Even if it was completely by chance."

Aryia sighs, and nods. "Fine, let's go to some temple or whatever." <Handspeech>

Which Temple, any might do. All are within walking distance. Most don't have someone standing on them.

The Temple of Eluna does, right above the door where Seldan disappeared. Lancer Tafetha is on the peak of the roof, holding onto the moonspire and looking down.

At everyone gathered around the fountain.

"Not as a group. It would not be off for Seldan to go to the temple of Eluna." Seyardu says with a shake of her head. "We can go to that of Daeus together, Aryia, but we should not all be in a group right now. The person in the window is likely watching us."

She turns to Aya with a swish of her tail, though it was more nerves than anything. "Peace on your nest Aya, this one will see you another time. This one was curious, since Lily said who I was assuming was Zeke. Since I am pretty sure that _she knows their names_ ." They adress to the other Mul. The emphasis was subtle, and there was no inflection to their voice. But it was most likely she was speaking of neither Lily, or Zeke with the speech.

Lancer Tafetha. The body in the temple of Daeus. Also seemingly quite living in the shop. Now, on the roof.

Aryia sets off after Seyardu towards the temple of Eluna, her giving a parting wave to Aya. She listens. Then half listens. Her gaze settling on the woman on the roof.

She clenches her fists so tight that the threads of the dress start to fray around the knuckles. The mul'neissa purses her lips and hurries after, pale in the face as she seeks refuge in the safer space of the temple.

Seyardu was already leading Aryia away from the fountain. And into the temple of Daeus quickly. She glanced to the Lancer, and as loathe as she was to admit it, they were in no shape to deal with them on their own. And the ashwing knew that. They made their presence known once Seldan was gone, after all. She trusted Aya to take care of herself, and most important now was reaching those who could help. Once inside, She was quick to find various sunblades to alert them to the presence outside the temple of Eluna.

The Lancer watches the pair move, then change direction and vanish inside the Temple of Daeus. She remains on the roof, very visibly turning to face Aya, and continue to observe her. One imagines she might be smiling.

Aya bids the others farewell, with gesture more than words. It would be a bit odd to yell a pleasant parting at the backs of those departing, would it not? She makes no move to approach any temple at this time, much less those of Sun nor moon.

The Sunblades are held back. There wouldn't be a point of sending them out, the moment they appear the devil is gone. Reporting it might not be bad.

The other Mul'niessa isn't aware she's being watched by a former corpse. A Lancer smiling at her is cause for concern however.

The Sunblades are alerted, but not sent. After all, the devil will go when they appear, or will have gone before they do. Except, the Lancer seems content to stand on the roof of Eluna's temple and watch Aya.

She can't be that evil, she hasn't burst into flame.

Aya continues to watch the temple doors where the others went, perhaps awaiting their return? Then again, it does keep the smiling Lancer overhead just within her peripheral vision. As she is under watch, said watcher will witness the mul'niessa vanishing in a rapidly-dissipating puff of shadow.

The watcher need not wonder long where she went, Aya subsequently inquires, from atop the temple shortly behind the watcher, "Are you enjoying the view?"

The Lancer turns around, smiling. Actually, more of a leer and a sneer, especially as she can look down on the Mul'niessa. She mumbles something, unclear words in an obscure language. Perhaps Kulthian, perhaps Infernal, perhaps nonsense.

She makes a move to draw her sword, and doesn't seem perturbed or surprised by Aya's sudden appearance. If anything, she's almost welcoming her with open arms.

Aya arches a brow. "Yes? No? Devils have your tongue?" She steps to the side, keeping the Lancer in sight but putting her back to open air off the temple roof. Preferably not towards the attic window across the way, at which she casts a quick glance.

<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "will save Aya, DC17"
GAME: Cryosanthia rolls 1d20+10: (1)+10: 11 (EPIC FAIL) (Erinyes perception to read the scene accurately)

Lancer Tafetha answers Aya, a mumbled, jumble reply. One where she stares at her prior position. And then she turns, to look at Aya with her back to open air, except she's turned a little too far and is talking off to the other side of the Mul'niessa.

There's something not right. That little window is far away. Very far, almost impossible to see anything behind it.

There is the hiss of steel as the Lancer pulls her blade out.

Lots of people are in the temple square, quite a few are looking up at a pair on top of the Temple of Eluna.

Aya's lips purse at the oddities. Mumble replies. Delayed reactions. Focusing in not quite the proper direction. Combine that with a rather distant known observation post and...

"You are not here, but there; an illusion ... or a puppet on lengthy strings," she notes, regardless of whether (if her deduction is true) the puppeteer can actually hear her. Pursed lips deepen into a scowl. "And above all, a coward."

From afar, Aryia has noticed a crowd beginning to form, the scarred mul'neissa watching from a window with a worried expression.

She chose window instead of going outside. The last time they encountered the devil she nearly died in a single hit.

Seyardu had let the sunguards who had been around know what was going on, but they did not move, not wanting to send them fleeing as Aya spoke with them. They were near the door, but not outside too far, and so was Seyardu, watching what was unfolding with worry. She wasn't expecting Aya to teleport up there.

Galidor comes into the Temple Square and he heads over towards the fountain. He looks around as the others are all distracted by something and he squints a bit to try to see what it is. He gives a shrug and pushes up his sleeves to reach into the fountain to get some coins. He shakes his head a bit, "Foolish softskins throwing money into the water." He finishes out only the copper and silver, just enough for a good meal.

The Lancer, or the illusion of the Lancer gestures at Aya with a shrug, then points behind her. Another answer, that seems almost like words spoken upstairs and around a corner. A voice, syllables, nothing that resolves. There is the quiet chink of her armour as she moves, a noise from her foot changing position, sounding like it's sliding on wood and not the marble roof.

Perhaps the most infuriating thing, even though Aya surmises she's dealing with an illusion, it's still a really convincing one. One she can't seem to fully disbelieve.

<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "you can make another DC17 will save Aya"
GAME: Aya rolls will: (4)+9: 13

Despite the accusation, the Lancer seems very present. Perhaps this is all an elaborate prank where she behaves strange to throw off suspicion.

"We can have someone on the roof in seconds, laying down a dimensional anchor." The Sunblade nearest to Seyardu says, "What's your friend up to? Is she trustworthy? She's a Mul'niessa."

Completely ignoring the other Mul'niessa hanging out by the window.

There is nothing to really note for those watching on the ground. They're too far to hear, especially behind a window, and a bit obscured.

Aya peers at the 'Lancer' more firmly, now doubting her presumptions. Still, whatever it is, she's quite convinced that it is NOT the individual it appears as. At best, if the true one was confirmed dead, perhaps a puppeted corpse? "When you choose to do something other than watch, feel free..."

With that, Aya vanishes once more to re-appear near the fountain where she previously stood. While Aya does enjoy games, at times, they are those of conversation and wit. The one upon the roof appears to be bereft of both.

Aryia looks behind her towards the Sunblade, a frown on her face. "I'm literally right here, asshole. What's a.... airship anchor?" <Handspeech>

There was a thought. It would be easy, to put someone up there, and have the ashwing dealt with, and not deal with them again.

"Not yet, but stand ready to move if anything happens." She says, shaking her head. "Yes, I trust her. I did not even know she was a Mul'niessa, and I trust her."

And they were gone, off the roof and near the fountain. All pretense of splitting off was broken, so she waved Aya to where they were.

She looks to Aryia, and sighs, turning to the sunblade. "And I trust the one here with me, who isn't happy with your assumptions. But she would like to know about, airship anchors?"

She turns back to Aryia, looking confused.

The delayed reaction is there again, but once more the Lancer turns around to fix on Aya's resumed position at the fountain. Now with 100% more goldenscale. She points with the blade, fading sunlight giving it a convincing crimson gleam, and then she walks along the roofline of the Temple to the other end, drops down and vanishes.

"It stops Other Planar beings from teleporting away." The Sunblade explains with a grumpy growl, "Or walking away. Great, now we've lost track of it. Fan out and see where it's gotten to."

Worse than seeing a centipede run across the floor and under a bed.

Galidor pockets the coins he took from the pool and watches a little confused as to what everyone is doing. He takes a couple steps back away from the fountain and other others as he looks around.

Aryia figured the fiend would have ran. Too much attention on them, and they were sure to high tail it. That's why she never pulled the trigger to tell the Sunblades to go after them.

Also because they're pricks, but that's beside the point. Mostly.

She sighs as the situation defuses, not wanting to deal with this in her dress. Her new, not stabbed through, dress. The explanation leaves her slightly confused, but she got the gist of it.

The Sunblades go searching. Some fly, others on the ground, weapons out and ready. A single devil would be no match for them, which is perhaps why they don't find any trace of one.

At the fountain, closer to that suspicious window, it's still impossibe to see if anything or anyone is behind it.

The various adventurers and new arrivals are able to regroup, should they wish to do so.

Aya looks over to the temple and those observing the recent happenings. The scarred mul. among others, receives a beckoning gesture with one hand. Perhaps not fluent handspeech, but a communication of invitation all the same.

"They would have been prepared if you sent someone over. They are acting like this because they are confident." Seyardu sighs. Theywere gone. "That is, I will keep that in mind."

The devil was gone seemingly, and Aya was beckoning them over. But Seyardu was waving her over instead. A small bright silver sith-makar was hard to miss waving should anyone see them.

All eyes are on her.

OOC

<OOC> Aya fears no she-devils and was only mind-controlled into punching Merek the last time she encountered some. Then punched Merek thinking that it would make his doppleganger vanish. "Hmm. I'm noticing a trend..."
<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "when in doubt, punch Merek? I'm bad, I'm sorry."
