  • Title: A Curious Request, part 8
  • Emitter: Whirlpool
  • Characters: Ashes, Silmeria, Edinaz, Baz da Ork
  • Place: Dragonier
  • Time: Wednesday, May 26, 2021, 8:45 PM
  • Summary: The adventurers battle the Void Dragon and his wights in the foundry beside the Adamantine Golem. The wights keep coming, emerging from tunnels, Baz and Edinaz knocking them down almost as fast as they do. Almost. Those that get through inflict negative energy on everyone. Baz restores Silmeria, as she keeps using Momento Mori to shoot the Void Dragon, and her Chains of Perdition to drag him around. Towards the foundry, following a helpful hint from Ashes. Ashlee continues to take cover beside Silmeria, and glower curses on the Void Dragon, as her earlier Hexes activate and fade. Lysos helps Silmeria, with a Hydraulic push that moves the dragon closer to the edge of its ledge. Ashes webs up some of the tunnels the wights are emerging from, as Edinaz and Baz cut them down. The dragon is pulled right to the edge, breathes a wave of cold over all, which nearly takes out Ashes and sends Lysos towards death. Baz is forced to use some of Kor's healing energy, Ashes nearly matching his efforts with Vardama's, and Lysos recovers a little. Another shot and successful yank of the chain pulls the dragon off the ledge, down to the magma, yet it resists. Somehow, it flies despite the chains, surging to crash land on everyone. They scatter. Edinaz readies an attack, Baz enlarges preparing to go nose to nose with the beast. Silmeria adds more chains, which slip this time. Lysos's hydraulic pushes aren't as effective as her first effort and Ashes gets out of the way, using Silmeria's healing wand on the sorceress. And the Dragon comes down.

Previously

The adventurers were battling a void dragon and his wights. He had just confused them. Lysos' mind clears and she steps back, casting invisibility as Edinaz and Baz lay waste to the wights. Ashes is not doing as well, still confused and bashes herself, then gets drained further by the wights. Silmeria shoots at the Void Dragon, who seems amused, then angry and throws a rock at her. Lysos puts a blurr on Ashes as Edinaz and Baz do more damage, and the Mourner's head clears. She takes refuge beside Silmeria and tries to lay some more hexes on the Void Dragon, with a little success. More wights rain down on the Varadamite faithful.

With Ashlee at Silmeria's side, the Speaker stands just a bit straighter despite the soul-draining wounds, a proud twist touching her smile. Death has come to Dragonier, and it will not leave until its business is complete.

Tracking Mori along the dragon's path, two shots ring out again, and once more only one hits home. Despite herself, the gunner makes a quiet noise of frustration.

It's eyes glow a baleful green as it seems to cointinue its amusement. The bullets hit it4, but it does not ... exactly bleed. Instead, the holes are simply black and empty, like staring into the abyss it self.

A glowing green beam streaks from its eyes towards Edinaz, but he narrowly gets out of the way.

Now

The wights move in to attack.

Attacks with fail to connect. The undead flail impotently.

GAME: Lysos spends ONE use of TOUCH OF DESTINY.

The one thing Lysos is sure of is that right now is a very bad time to be seen, particularly for one who isn't yet truly qualified to be an adventurer. So she maintains her spell of bent light, picks her steps carefully to minimize the sound she makes.. or at least keep it under the din of battle.. and makes her way to the beleaguered Death Gunner. Very wary of the wights gathered about Silmeria and Ashes, Lysos quickly reaches out and touches the former on the shoulder, imparting a rather strong, if brief, potential future.

GAME: Baz da Ork casts Restoration. Caster Level: 7 DC: 18

Panting from the hard fighting Baz reaches into one of the pouches by his waist. Bringing his other hand, clutching the well used scimitar tightly in his fist, he pushes the pommel into the holy symbol of Kor emblazoned in his armored chest. "KOR! AID US IN THIS FIGHT! END THIS THEIVERY OF LIFE!" The in-bag hand snaps out and glittering cloud of diamond dust flows from the Ork's fist. Burning into divine motes of energy that swirl from Baz to Silmeria. Bringing back color and strength stolen by the vicious claws of the undead monsters.

Ashlee stands near Silmeria, doing her best to avoid the wights, which is mostly trusting in her armour and batting at them with her umbrella. It's not entirely effective and she's feeling cold in a way she doesn't like.

Her eyes remain fixed on the Void Dragon, balefully staring, her thoughts singular. You're coming with me to the Grey Halls. Her dark eyes bore out of the black sockets of her skull face. An angry glittering not far removed from his undead minions. Except her rebirth was the will of the gods many years ago, and she will not return easily.

"Die." She murmurs. The foundry is right there. The blazing heat warming her nearside. "Die in a fire."

First a vision of a better future, and then the retraction of the rot eating away at her soul, and Silmeria stands taller. "Thank you," she murmurs, casting Baz, and the empty space to her side, grateful smiles, then turns her attention to the dragon, leering amusedly above them.

"War and Death have come to your home," says the speaker, glaring balefully up at the enslaver of corpses. "And as in all things, they bring Fate with them. Leer all you want, corpse worm, but there is only one way this ends."

Her pistol barks twice more, and the ghostly chains she had summoned, that seemed to perk at the skull-faced Mourner's words, lash out, digging barbed hooks into the dragons front legs, and *hauling* it over the ground above them. Hauling it closer to the patch of sacred soil down below...

...And the roiling, churning molten hell of the foundry by the wall.

It ain't happy with that.

The dragon stares at Silmeria for a moment, clearly contemplating what it wants to do to her. It has no intention of joining the on the bottom floor yet. Not until it's good and ready, and it is clearly not ready.

It's gaze seems to have an impact on the Inquisitor, but it isn't one that lasts long. It makes an annoyed growl.

GAME: Lysos casts Hydraulic Push. Caster Level: 6 DC: 17
GAME: Lysos rolls 1d20+6+6: (19)+6+6: 31

Confidence continues to grow. Probably a little too high, considering her safety so far has depended on the fact that it seems nothing can see her.. but with it Lysos manages to get a better idea of what's going on in the melee. And with the dragons. Gulp. Watching Silmeria's magic drag at the thing, bringing it closer to the foundry... Lysos takes a deep breath, nods once to herself.. then hikes up her skirts and quickly moves as far away from the wights as she can while still keeping close enough for her spell. Then she gathers her will, extends two fingers towards the dragon.. and becomes visible as she firmly commands, "Soakus!" The power is released as a blast of water smashes into the dragon's face, pushing it yet further toward its DOOM.

Silmeria and BAz both find themselves getting uncomfortably injured by them. While the touch itself doesn't cause much physical harm, the spiritual damage is more real and the pain caused by it intense.

"RAAWRRGH!" Baz is forced back under the swarming assault of the Wights. As feels their cruel claws twisting at his life force his arm sweeps up and then out. He clenches his scimitar tightly in one hand as the other balls back in a fist. Thrusting his chest out the great Ork cleric lets out a bellow and unleashes his Kor-Bear-Stare. Calling upon the divine anger and rage of Kor to flow forth in an all encompassing and hopefully consuming pulse of divine energy.

GAME: Ashes casts Web. Caster Level: 8 DC: 16

Wights, wights and more wights.

Ashlee looks at the continual trickle of undead, emerging here and there from the tunnels. As fast as Edinaz and Baz put them down, more move into range. The scales need to be tipped a little, and the Feiu of the Tears is all about balancing the scales.

The Mourner decides to add a little weight, against the wights. Picking the tunnel that seems to be disgorging the most, she touches her breastplate and prays, "Feiu of the Tears, web that up."

Sticky strands appear from nowhere, criss-crossing in the air, stretching floor to ceiling and filling back beyond her darksight. It won't stop them, but it will slow them down.

Hopefully, enough.

Another wight bight brings the sickness back to the Speaker's soul, but she meets the dragon's gaze, shoving the befuddling fear aside through sheer force of will. The chains continue to drag the wyrm inexorably towards the ledge above the foundry, and another of Silmeria's bullets finds its target.

"Even your like deserves a peaceful death, worm. Close your eyes, cease your struggle, and think of the stars." Her voice sounds gentle, despite the grim fury that sparks in her eyes. But there's no denying that at this rate, the dragon is very likely to die, and quite soon.

The dragon now is on the edge of its ledge. It is not happy about this.

It strains against the chains binding it and decides to focus its breath, a blast of pure, icy cold, down on the lot of you. It catches a couple of the wights, but it hardly cared about that. Lysos eats the worwst of the blast, but Ashes is only barely better, while Baz and Silmeria are able to weather it well enough. Edinasz is still standing, but that definitely looks like it hurt.

Lysos is blown off her feet by the dragon's magic, and when she hits the ground, she does not, in fact, get up again. There is a distinctive blue hue to her lips and fingers, and the rest of her skin is oh so pale.. save for the cracking red where the cold hit her directly.

Protecting his head and managing to roll even in his spiked plate armor. Baz crashes into a crouch and shakes off the worst of the freezing dragon breath. He brings his hand up to his chest as he yells out ."FIGHT US COWARD! BLADE TO CLAW!" Then he tries to reach down into the well of his anger, to draw more divine power from Kor for the fight, letting out another wave of divine magic to heal allies and sear the undead things in range.

A wave of cold washes over the Mourner, hitting her directly. She shivers involuntarily, her teeth chattering. Already grey in skin tone and overall choice of apparel, she's rendered even more white and ashen with a covering of frost. Her lips, her fingertips are a slightly different shade of blue than Lysos', and she barely stands.

The parasol, it did nothing.

The Korrite's shared anger helped a lot more.

"F..f..f..fieu of the t..tears!" One of her small fangs bites her lip, the blood freezing into the icy coating like a lipstick, "Heal..l.. p...please."

Never did the stillness of the grave feel so warm.

Upon seeing a dragon breathe in deeply, one's only proper reflex is to curl into a ball and hope, if it is to be your end, then that end be swift. None are immune to this.

Flakes of ice rattle off Silmeria's hair as she raises her head, and upon seeing Lysos' prone body, and Ashes desperately trying to assist her, the Speaker digs into one of her pouches, producing a slim, bone-white wand, engraved with 'For Emergencies' in looping script. "MOURNER!" the Speaker cries, hurling the wand at the Hobkin like one would a pub dart, in a high arc and as hard as she can manage.

Rising to her feet, the Speaker turns to face up at the ledge, the dragon upon it... and the chains embedded in the dragon's front legs. "I did say it would only end one way," she says, as the chain gives yet another mighty heave, dragging the wyrm off its perch... and toward the churning foundry below. "And my sister in faith even told you how. Now... die in a fire."

On the other hand, the dragon goes over the magma and falls a short distance before it stretches its wings, trying to hold back above it, straining against the pulling even as it is in open air. It then tries to hurl itself further over the magma, aiming to crash into the party.

Yes, that's right.

It's going for a crash landing.

On you.

Another wave of water appears above the Void Dragon, blasting it across its wings and back. The torrent sprays out to the side, and some down into the foundry, causing more violent churnings, steam and explosions. Yet it's not enough to change its course.

Edinaz looks up, curses, and upon making a quick judgement call, takes a quick sidestep, readying his blades and a run-on sentence.

"Yes!" The big Ork yells as the dragon is dragged off it's perch. "YES!" He intones louder as it spreads it's wings and glides towards them. Moving out of it's path the Orkish Cleric pounds his chest, thumping his thick fist into the metal. "GONNA KILL! GONNA EAT!" HIs form begins to glow as the anger and magic suffuse him. His armor groaning and twisting as his body swells and soon the seven foot tall Ork more then doubles in size. Rising up above the others. "I IZ THE BIGGEST! THE STRONGEST! WAR!!" She wishes it had dropped into the foundry. Baz's sudden growth and apetite are encouraging. Perhaps there will be Barbecque later. Then again, she saw the holes Silmeria's gun left, the emptiness inside. It might not be possible to eat it.

Something for later.

With a clutching gesture and a harshly whispered prayer, Silmeria stares into the dragon's eyes as it angles its descent to the floor directly beneath them. Another ghostly chain shimmers into reality, throwing both hooks around the dragon's wingbones and *hauling backward, as the chains hooked into its forelegs haul back as well, both tugging toward the foundry.

It's Silmeria that blinks first, however, when the chains fail to arrest the dragon's momentum. Lifting up her skirts just a bit, the Speaker takes a few dainty steps to one side, away from the wyrm.

And baked dry almost instantly from the heat.
