What is Pathfinder?

Pathfinder is a game system that provides the underlying, general rules and mechanics for Tenebrae. Its rules are freely available through Paizo's online PRD or may be purchased in paper form through Paizo's website, Amazon, or local booksellers. If you've heard of Dungeons and Dragons, then you should be familiar with the concept: there are wizards and rogues and even paladins. You play a hero, adventure with friends, and work on developing, breathing life into your story or concept.

In sum, we're a storytelling-MUSH that just happens to run Pathfinder. It helps to be familiar with its basic concepts. Beyond that, though, don't worry about getting everything perfect. Focus on having fun.

If you're new to Pathfinder, or Tenebrae, start with our Beginner's Guide to Tenebrae. It walks you through making a character, as well as many basic concepts. The rest you're welcome to learn as you go.

How is It Different from Dungeons and Dragons 3.5?

Pathfinder is best summarized as Dungeons and Dragons 3.75. Think of it as a "smoothing out" of 3.5, published by Paizo. It keeps much of the OGL licensing, and is intended to be backwards compatible. Some of the more notable differences between 3.5 and Pathfinder are a smoothed-out skills system, and (at least we think so) more interesting, option-filled base-classes. In fact, entering a PrC is much more rare than in 3.5 because of these options.

How is a MUSH Different from Tabletop?

Despite running Pathfinder, we are not an Online Tabletop Game, nor a MMO. The experience is by design, somewhat different. We run scenes, roleplay, and immerse ourselves in a world as large as the imagination. Your character might be in a scene with a friend one evening, and with another the next. And later on, you'd meet along the pathway during a stroll overlooking the Ruins of the Artificer's City.

Tenebrae is an immersive, roleplay-based environment that's open for play 24 hours, 7 days a week. Our players are a variety of ages, geographic locations, and walks of life. Be sure to check out our Beginner's Guide to Tenebrae page. We've been around for a while.
