(Start of Plot)

There's a few people gathered at the corner of the road of which you are passing through. You manage to get a snippet of their discussion.

"Do you think it is haunted?"

"I don't know. But those who enter it have not been seen of again."

"Well, it must have some magic security in it or something. There is a big sign at the front that says 'No Entry! Trespassers will be dealt with severely!' It is likely that people who entered it got zapped and thrown into the city prison for their troubles."

"Really? Well, I heard that one of the city guards was investigating the place. He said that he had heard complaints from the neighbours of hearing strange things inside the building. Unnatural things."

"Didn't I already say that place could have magical security in place?"

"If that were so, why don't the city guards know about it?"

"Do the city guards actually know anything in the city?"

"Well, I have not seen that city guard for days now. He could be another one of those missing people who ventured into that building and never to be seen again."

"Sshh! I think someone's listening."

The crowd disperse, leaving behind an old abandoned building with a large sign at the door saying 'No Entry! Trespassers will be dealt with severely!'

Lily is traveling the road alone, as she often does. Her supplies are light, it's just her route between a small village and the main city. A few day's journey, nothing more than the rations she could care on her body were really needed. Despite this, she's still decked out in potions, with a violin strapped over her back as if it were a bow and arrow. She stops for a rest not far from the crowd, catching her breath and grabbing the word. Magical security? She looks towards the building.

This is right up a certain half-sil rogue's alley. No seriously, Latenat is lounging up against the wall of the adjoining alley tending to a burning cigarillo, his ears well honed to rumour and converse. Mulling over the overhead discussion the colorless-cloaked scoundrel levers himself away from the wall and begins jandering toward the abandoned houses frontage, forbidden you say? sounds like a scam of the most common order.

You paged Lily with 'Perception please.'
GAME: Lily rolls perception: (4)+9: 13
You paged Lily with 'As you observe the house, you see a silhouette of a figure standing near one of the buildings windows. It just allows you a brief glimpse before whoever it is, or whatever, steps back into obscurity.'

Upon eyeing the house, Lily sees something of interest, apparently. She visibly perks and then her eyes dart to the half-sil walking towards the door steps. Could he be so bold? Sitting up from her resting spot, she jogs forward to catch up to the rogue, glancing at him as she joins his side while keeping pace towards the property. No greetings.

From afar, Latenat wishes to peruse his brain pan, of knowledge of this abode's history.
You paged Latenat with 'It belongs to a Sir Arvon Kopins, a knight said to have been lost during the sendor wars. This is one of his many estates in the city.'

"Used to be an estate of one of the high muckety-muck knights. Used to be." Latenat muses out loud, slender fingers rolling the cigarello 'twixt them as a thinking aid,"One of them at least, 'fore he was lost in some war or another." shoulders are shrugged as he turns a questing eye upon the sil woman, an eyebrow soon raising in wordless question.

"Were you going to go in alone?" Lily posits, glancing for a moment upon the other, still walking. She stops by the door and watches Latenat expectantly. "Don't mind me, but there is an occupant currently in this house." Tilting her head, she continues, "If you're right, it could be anyone. We should check it out." Just like that? Recruited.

"I was thinking about it." replies Latenat nonchalantly, puffing away as he flares his cloak out a matter of fact butter-wouldn't-melt-in-his-mouth expression upon his features,"Anybody at all. Could be in need of rescue, even." at that justification the quirk of a smirk tugs up one corner if his mouth as he sidles over to the door, giving it the hard eye.

Strangely, the door is not locked as you test it. You manage to enter the abandoned domicile with little resistance at all. The house is eerily silent with the long passages empty of anything worthwhile. The little furnitures that are still in place have been covered in white sheets. As you check the building some more, the main door closes in on itself. When checked, it is now locked.

You paged Lily with 'You hear the faintest of sounds footsteps located at the second level of the building. You also see something ahead of you. A piece of string running across one wall to the other side, at the level of one's shin. A trap perhaps?'

"That, is a dodgy play." Latenat purses his lips and narrows grey eyes as he considers the door and reaches underneath his vest, pulling out a leather wallet which he unrolls. This reveals a set of metal probes, the usage of which are soon evident as he attacks the lock in short order,"Not leaving but I'd be daft if we didn't have an escape route planned out in advance."

You paged Latenat with 'You manage to unlock the main door. You also manage to detect a string that runs from the door to the walls. Where it goes is anyone's guess.'

Lily glances around the building, she doesn't move from her spot, but she glances back at the door. A shiver runs up her back. "I don't like this place." Her voice is lower. Reaching up, she rubs behind her ear as she spots something shiny. Reaching into her pliers, she pulls out a little knife of her own. Kneeling down in the hallway, she works to disarm.. Something.

<OOC> Lily says, "+3 from Cosmopolitan."
You paged Lily with 'You successfully cut the strings without triggering anything.'

A simple string trigger, not quite sure what, if anything it was hooked up to, but either way it won't be triggered no. She snips the strings and looks up to Latenat, "Small trap..?" A violinist and a rogue? What a weird career choice. "There's someone upstairs." She puts a finger to her lips without actually 'sshing'. She does give him a thumbs up for the good effort with the lock. Now they can escape should something go awry.

"Hello." Latenat murmurs, his eyes following the door jamb to the wall after a loud 'CLICK' announces his success before he looks over his shoulder at Lily, and her own victory,"Got a string going to the wall from the door here. Shall we?" sweeping an arm out into a flourish the street rat bows eloquently, proffering the fore to the lady.

As you and your companion reach the second floor, you notice that the ambient temperature in the area has increased. It is still cold, but not as cold as one would expect from an empty building.

There appears to be a light source of some kind behind one of the rooms as you can see light beneath the door.

Latenat loses his jocularity quickly now business is afoot, games aside he moves with the weight upon the blade of his foot, and soon avaunt upstairs. When the light is encountered the half-sil pauses with a frown,"<something you don't understand in handspeech>" he signs, his expression conveying caution as he moves forward silently and checks out the door for other hidden surprises.

You paged Lily with 'You see what looks like a needle hidden within the recess of the door knob.

Lily pushes herself up and carefully steps over the broken string to follow behind. Quickest way to make friends? It's apparently to walk up with them to an abandoned building and start disarming traps. Ascending the stairs, she makes a concerted effort to /not/ let every creaking step announce her presence. When she reaches the crest of the stairs she pauses to take a look. She catches the handspeech, but doesn't reply. Again, her eyes catch something and she steps forward. Carefully she points towards a needle that appears to be hidden in the recess of the door knob.

Having missed the needle on the first pass Latenat's eyebrow raises once again, nodding his relieved thanks to his partner-in-trespass he reaches for his tools of the trade once again. Kneeling down to go to work he uses a cork with a dab of wax apon it to shield some of his digits from its puncture-prone consequences.

GAME: Latenat rolls disable device: (10)+8: 18
You paged Latenat with 'It appears you have disabled the device.'

Lily steps back to allow Latenat to do his work. She doesn't have the tools to disable every single little trap. She watches with a bit of interest to how this particular one is disabled, and remains back to deal with anything once the door is open.

The cork gets in the way of course, but a precaution well-advised. Nonetheless Latenat blinks with surprise when he disables the potentially lethal device and without triggering the actuator as well. With a long slow breath out he stands and moves to the side of the door, preparing his weapons, possibly as a ward against the chill as the pair prepare to enter.

"Here you are... At last." Says the man seated on the chair.

He slowly rises from his chair, smoothening his cloak around him before snapping both of his hands forward. Two projectiles hurtle to each one of you...

"Bloody, Bastard, Shit, Damn." stealth kinda becomes a moot point at this stage as Latenat's hand is punctured with the needle he /thought/ he had disarmed, the half-sil grasping for a vial he had hoped to never have to use... and is just in the process of drinking as their nemesis flings projectiles at them,"Oh no you didn't... Son of a Bitch!" his indignance is mixed with pain as the dart flung at him finds its home in the meat of its upper shoulder, and you can hear the capitalisation in his efflusive swearing. It was just a simple B&E at that point, now its personal as he hurls himself forth and misses with his hastily drawn rapier, the glass of the vial he was supping from shattering behind him.

Lily yelps in surprise as the projectile neatly plants itself in her leg. She doesn't pull it out, instead using precious time to duck back in retreat while drawing that viola off her back. Ducking around the corner of the doorway, she obscures herself from the hunter. Don't run? She's not running. The sound of her music begins, the sound of her playing filling the house.

The hulking hunter easily brushes away Latenat's defenses as he charges forward, bowling him down and reaching for his weapons to finish the hapless rogue off. Survival instinct however has ever been a good motivator and the rogue crab walks frantically out of the way before pulling himself to his feet without the use of his hands,"Crazy!" he yells and sticks the masked man as he is rushed once again, paying a heavy price for the lunge as he takes a dart in the meat of his neck by way of reply. As one might imagine, this does not leave the bravo in good straits indeed... but he makes another successful follow up attack anyway, the rapier sliding through The Hunter's shoulder blade.

<OOC> Benthus says, "Now he is really mad!"

Lily, not one to give up, stops playing again in a way that almost creates suspense. The stop and go flow of her music, ending in a high note, expecting more. She digs into another pocket and pulls out a small knicknack puzzletoy and extends it towards the Hunter only for it to get smacked out of her hand again. "What?!" She exclaims, "Just trying to -Woah!" And she just /barely/ dodges a blade coming at her. Yikes! Then she just resumes playing. The show must go on.

GAME: NEW ROUND!
      Benthus advances the initiative order.
      Round Eight - Init 15.
It is now Latenat's turn! Lily is next!
<OOC> Latenat says, "move and attack, I dont think I can get into a flanking position myself without potentially eating an AoO"
GAME: Latenat rolls 1d20+7: (15)+7: 22
GAME: Latenat rolls 1d6+5: (6)+5: 11
<OOC> Benthus says, "Wow, you dropped him."
<OOC> Benthus says, "Anyhoo. The adversary now lies dying on the second floor of the building. I leave it up to you guys whether he should live or die."

"Oh no you dont!" Latenat sees a blade flash in the dimly lit hallway, striking at his companion in arms. Thankfully, he has enough elven blood to see in these conditions and seeing an opening takes it! Up and in between two ribs, into a lung and through his chest,"There. You. Go." the half-sil says between gritted teeth, grasping the back of the terribly garish cloak and lowering the gurgling foe to the ground face first

Lily takes a step back, and her performance finishes. She lowers the violin, looking from the body to Latenat. "Well. He certainly wasn't very nice."

<OOC> Lily says, "I say live, if he's still alive."
<OOC> Lily says, "Guards are nearby. Let's hand him over, collect a prize, and call it a night complete."

The attacker, when revealed, is that of a non-discript man. Little could be gleaned from the person except that he was hired to kill someone. According to the authorities, that person is Lily. The man now sits in the city guards' dungeon prison, where he awaits his sentencing for the many deaths he has committed and acknowledged.
