Wizard's First Rule (Part 7)

Kol's father lays on the ground soundly beaten and barely breathing. Still unconscious from the fight. Only Iolaire's mercy spared him from death, and that had been nearly not enough. Now you stand in what will one day be Alexandria looking around at people who are pretending like they aren't staring at you as they walk by. The crowd that had gathered has long since vanished, and so to have the man's companions who were supposed to help him in the fight should anyone interfere.

Mikilos spent some time negotiating with the archons. A jerk of a father was not part of the agreement, but then, the wizard didn't know about him being -quite- such a jerk. Still death is a pretty standard end for a contract, which the elf agrees is perfectly fair. Especially as was less 'contract' and more 'please help'.

The magus is also less pleased when he tracks down the others to see what they've been up to. "....we do remember there's a timeline to preserve, right? If we go back and Altima is still in charge, or Dran took over after destroying Rune, or something like that, I'm blaming you, alright?"

Erendriel has stopped cheering as things have calmed down after the duel. She looks to the others. "I'd rather have a slightly better timeline if we can. At least, one where we can talk Kol down. So what now? How do we make sure Kol and his sister will be okay? How do we make sure things won't be worse after we leave?"

"Blame me all you like," Iolaire says serenely, one finger tapping on the weight of Vater's flail, coiled and sitting in her lap. "Sometimes logic has to stand behind justice, and I'll happily take any consequences that come. ...So," she sighs, looking between the gathered arcanists, "who wants to -- and can -- wake him up?"

Morgan says to Erendriel "I know most of the big events that happened around now if you want we can stop some of them if you want." There is a bit snark with that statement. "But to be safe lets not take something from this time line unless its the star of the west. Its been missing for a long time."

Mikilos eyes the unconscious jerkface a few moments and shrugs. "Healing is not my forte. If we really need it done, could likely get it accomplished, but frankly I like him better like this. Enjoy it while it lasts."

Erendriel winks at Iolaire. "I wouldn't possibly intervene in your fight. But seriously, I gave my only healing to Kol. And I'm glad I did." She looks at Morgan. "I don't mean like that just... local stuff. Like our plague problem." she shrugs.

Morgan holds up a potion and motions to the guy that was knocked out. "Let me think on it there might of been a lost to us berry or something that is not around any more."

"That'll work a treat, thanks," Iolaire says, holding her hand out for Morgan to put the potion in. "Anyway, once I finish having words with this... man... I think I'll have no more problems keeping us here. And I promise, I'll try to make it quick." Erendriel gets one of those 'amused-annoyed-disappointed-still-kind-of-amused' looks she may remember from her childhood. "I appreciate *wanting* to step in... not so much making it unfair. Still, he noticed, and I think I can work with that."

GAME: Morgan used a Potion.
GAME: Iolaire rolls 1d8+1: (7)+1: 8

The man sputters around the potion that is given to him, waking quite all the sudden and then immediately suspicious. The potion doesn't look like it's done much for his injuries but then he's conscious and that's really what you intended so that's what matters. He climbs laboriously to his feet and looks at you suspiciously, particularly when he notes that his weapon is in Iolaire's hand. "What're you doing here?"

Mikilos shrugs. That's the big question isn't it? "Trying to make the world a better place, generally speaking."

"Talking," Iolaire says, climbing to her feet and holding the coiled flail at her side, one-handed. "Your way didn't seem to work very well, has it? Your friends have flown, the town is *desperate* to ignore your bleeding heap in the square, so... Let's try mine now, yes?"

Morgan lets the others talk as she does not want to over load the guy with statements about how he is a dink. But this time she wants to study the village and wonders where this place will be in a few 1000 years to where she knows. She does get a book out and make small sketches and a lay out of the area.

Erendriel folds her arms and looks at the man. "We visited your home to help the children you don't deserve. And we're not going to stop until we're sure they're safe. Do you understand me? You're strong against children and animals. But you can't stand up to people who can defend themselves. Every time you harm that boy, you will be harmed." She clenches her fists, and takes a deep breath. "And nobody's going to stop me this time."

GAME: Erendriel rolls intimidate: (18)+15: 33

"I don't want to talk to you. So just go away." He makes a little 'go away' motion with his hand. Mikilos he ignores completely. Clearly he doesn't know what to do with that kind of answer. Erendriel gets a long lingering look though her threat is vague enough that he doesn't really feel a need to reply to it. Even so it stalls him for a moment, makes him think. "So what. You bunch gonna stick around and make sure I do what you want? 'Cause your all talking about /my/ family." He glares at Erendriel and Iolaire specifically.

Mikilos snorts. "Children do not a family make. That's just people who happen to be related."

Morgan does not stop what she is doing to say, "I could put a curse on him, but we have to be careful with the wording of it..... Oh the wood work on this post should not be here at this time, so many wizards will have a long argument about this."

Mikilos glances to the others. "...I could turn him into a frog, if you think that would help?"

When she sighs hard enough, apparently, Iolaire's nares whistle. This is interesting information, surely.

"*Are you all quite finished.*"

Erendriel sends a casual shot of fire right by Kolpop, before turning around and looking to Iolaire. Facing away Kolpop, so only Iolaire can see, she quietly nods "What do you want to do?"

Mikilos does at least have the grace to flush a little... though he does mutter something about 'encase in stone up to his neck'...

There's a pounding of boots now headed in your direction, and the man suddenly looks darkly pleased with himself. You know that beat, that drumming sound. It's familiar even though it'll be another thousand years until you hear it again. Or until you've heard it. Time travel is weird like that. It's the sound of guards headed in your direction. A lot of them. "Now you'll see. I'll have you all arrested. Public displays of magic! Threatening an officer! You'll be lucky to see the light of day again!"

Silent until now, Verna comments. "Display of magic? Such as that which spared your life. If you prefer that I retract the usage, I will do so in order to uphold law and order."

The sound of Iolaire's palm striking her forehead, likely, echoes throughout the square. "Well *thank you all,* apparently being big and strong trumps *CIVILIZED REASON.*" Drawing in a deep breath, she throws Vater's flail at his feet. "Fine, manhood restored, you'll die unloved and forgotten, and probably find your temper gives rise to a world-threatening catastrophe sooner or later excellent carry on being a garbage person CAN WE LEAVE NOW I GUESS?"

And with that, she starts pushing the gaggle of arcanists in the opposite direction from the approaching footfalls.

Mikilos glances to the others. "...I'm not worried. Are you worried?" He glances to jerkface. "Do we look worried?" He moves when Iolaire urges it. "Does this count as worried?"

Morgan sighs as she closes the book and puts it away "Well lets go but treat your kids better, as the stupid actions of the worst father ever will end up cursing us all."

You make it out of the 'city' without further incident and back into the woods headed back toward the cabin and the tower beyond it. There's sounds behind you as if you're being followed for some distance, but eventually those taper off and you're left to the odd echoing silence of the forest. It's winter and much here is asleep through the cold months.

You stop back by the cabin on your way. A brief stop because you don't want to be caught there again, and also because it doesn't take long to do what you want to do. You explain to Kol that he doesn't have to grow up to be like his father, and he smiles at you; certain that he won't be. You leave uncertain of his fate, but hopeful that you've done enough before returning your steps toward the tower.

You reach it nearly at night time, entering using Zeheir's name and the wizard clearly knows you've arrived. His voice calls down to you from upstairs. "You just wait down there! I'll set the tower to return you to the moment you left! Sorry about that!" And before you can reply back you feel an odd sensation in your stomach and the view out the door that hasn't closed changes to the fall. To the forest that you remember and a feeling in the air that's familiar. You're home. You're back in your own time.

Now... to learn if anything's been changed.
