Arcanist Bozli Adveni, a half-sil practitioner of the arcane who specializes in astrology, divined that a rare, twin comet sighting is coming to pass by in just two days! None knows if it is an omen, or good tidings, some may not even care at all. Shooting stars happen, it's not uncommon. But two in such a manner? That was worth sending someone out for.

The group finds themselves on the last day of travel, on or escorting aside a wagon with enough seating for all, as well as a carefully packed box that had instructions to NOT jostle it. The middle aged wizard flashes an excited smile over his shoulder, salt and pepper hair bobbing as it frames his face. "Just a couple more hours out, it's going to be so splendid!" Bozil chirps with glee.

It's a fair day, very few clouds in the sky, the atmosphere a vivid blue. The ride had been calm for the most part, and the weather fair. Really, the conditions could not be more perfect for such an event.

A Red Knight astride an Ivory Steed accompanies the cart. The Knight is a lucht, one Sister Paenitia, and the steed is a hippogryph, Ramirez, a peacock-andalusian, from the small town of Andalusa in Isobar, a place known for its hens and horses.

"I have the great anticipation for the sky signs." Paenitia says, rocking gently from side to side in her saddle.

'Ruaaaah.' Ramirez agrees, or simply squawks. He enjoys being out on the roads. Yes.

It sounded like a simple enough job, but wizards had a way of getting into trouble, intentional or otherwise. And failing that, they often carried expensive equipment with them with which to conduct their work, making the wagon a potential target for bandits and other questionable sorts. So Seyardu had applied to join the traveling group, and was heartened to see so many familiar faces joining as well. She gives a wave to the newcomer as well, before they settled into the long journey. She had packed extra food as well.

Seyardu was sitting down in the wagon with her weapon out and at her side, reading a book. Looking up, she nods to Paenitia where she was riding. "It is an interesting occurrence, indeed. I hope whatever learned from it is good." She agrees.

For her part, the travelling enigma in veils has been characteristicly quiet. A few intricate gestures for the benefit of those that recognize that language, some games of charades for those that don't, or the odd pre-written note for the standardized needs:

"Call me Venom."
"Don't touch that."
"It's your turn on watch."
"Reasons."

etc....

Her current position is riding alongside the driver with her eerily engraved thunderbelcher lain across her lap as her veiled head pans around to keep an eye out for trouble.

Randolf can be found seated up at the front, alongside his fellow wizard. Many of his outings have been, shall we say, less than fortunate. But this time, he's got someone he can actually -talk- to! "I've nae studied much in the way o' divinatory magicks," he says, idly cleaning the bowl of his pipe with a pocketknife. "But I've read a number o' treatises. Are ye familiar wi' De Natura Caelestis? Professor Donal Quinn has the most -fascinatin'- exegesis o' the text, especially the chapter on the interpretation o' prodigies." He knocks the dottle from his pipe with a bright, eager grin creasing his thickly-bearded features. "I must say, I'm lookin' forward tae this. The last conjunction observed o' this nature was recored clear the hell back in me -gran'-sire's time, near five hundred years ago! This could be a great portent indeed!"

Adveni is, either for better or worse, animatedly speaking with Randolf on the topic. Oh no, two wizards in the same place? This would be a headache for all those around. "Oh yes! I have perused through those tomes! In fact, I have a copy I am going to be referencing when we get set up! One must ensure that such legacies written down are accurate after all, lest we build our understandings on falsehoods!" he hums with enthusiasm. The silent figure beside him is given looks as well, like they were to be included in the conversation, even if all he got was silent stares. Who can blame the man, he seems elated.

He turns a bit to the other two in the back. "Believe you me, it is going to be SO worth the trip! The text say they spray colors across all the sky, making night become day in a beautiful spread of whites and blues, reds and purples!"

"It does sound quite fascinating, for certain." Seyardu agrees when they turn back. Though at the comment of the sight, she politely nods, and chuckles, looking over to the Lucht-Knight. "You will have to tell me after the fact how astounding it looks Dame Paenitia, with your grandest prose to describe it to me. You are always good about spinning tales such as that it seems."

"Hola Seyardu, Venom. It is good to be on the road with you." Paenitia says cheerfully, "Look, I have purchase the flag of my order."

She pulls on a string. A small flag-pole stands up behind her, attached to the saddle. The spread of halberds that's also attached remains down. She flies a flag of red and white. A red ground, with a large white pillar dominating most. Standing on the pillar is a rampant hippogryph, Ramirez. To either side of the flag, two long peacock feathers are attached to the cross-piece.

"It fit also to the back of my armour, to the great height of eight feet! So you will know where I stand on the battle-field and be encourage by this."

"I watch with the careful eyes to do so, Friend Dragon, and find the words. Ah, you make much flattery. Much thanks!"

If the two ner- errrrr, ahhh, -learned souls- wish to chatter about the ephemerals, that's fine with Venom, they likely don't get to spitball often with someone they're reasonably sure would understand. Besides, she's up front with the wind.

Much cooler than behind the windbreaks, anyway.

The veiled figure continues her surveying pattern, though her head cocks a moment as the client describes the spectacle they should expect to see. A stillness, then she resumes her preventive observation.

It might have made for a nice-

Hello!

On the hail, the silent one twists at her post to wave back to Sister Paenitia, giving an obvious lookover, then a thumbs-up before tapping her fist over her heart twice in quick succession.

Her attention turns to Seyardu, whom has ben out of her circle for some time, and she signs, "I'm glad to see you're alright. We need to talk later." once she's sure Seyardu is looking her way. <handspeech>

Randolf looks over his shoulder as the knight's pennon is unfurled. He lofts a bushy red brow, nodding his head. "Oh, aye, that's most impressive, innit?" he says. He's nothing if not polite. Immediately, he turns back to Adveni. "Ohh, the way ye describe it sounds like a Delta-class orbiform phase array! I've always -wanted- tae see one wi' me own eyes! Och, I hope I brought enough blank paper fer note-taking!" He tucks his unlighted pipe in the side of his mouth, chomping the bit as he hurriedly rummages through his pack. He hauls out a thick tome, peering at it intently. "Ahh, -damn-, there's only three hundred pages in this one. I'll have tae write extra small," he grumbles. Because of course he plans on taking -extensive- notes. It's a once in a lifetime occurrence, after all, even for a long-lived dwarf!

The last of the ride is, uneventful. Save for a bit of stress as the wagon slips going up a hill on an upaved path. They disembark at a clearing on a small cliff, only a few dozen feet in the air, but it juts out, giving a solid view of the now dusky sky with a matching vista of the plains below, sparesly decorated with trees.

The astrologist mentions it is going to take quite some time for the event to take place, so he bids all to make themselves comfortable. Small tents are provided, as well as some better than normal food supplies and chairs. Star watching was a serious endeavor. There was even hot chocolate. And tea. And coffee. A... lot of coffee.

Adveni's secret cargo was none other than a bizzaringly complex yet wholly simple contraption of fine gnomish ingenuity. A blend of brass tubes and glass, set atop a quinpod of support legs with a massive opening at the end that points up at the night sky. To the unlearned of artifice, it looks like a piece of overcomplicated metal, with too many knobs and too few instructions. To the learned, it's just a telescope.

He invites anyone to use the telescope, and shows them how to use it if they take up such offer.

"I want to see what it show, yes." Paenitia announces, nodding to Adveni's, "First I check the camp."

This involves Ramirez working his way higher, so he can jump and glide while circling the area. This involves a gallop and leap just before he's airbourne, and several minutes picking his way higher up the mountain.

Wide white wings spread, and his Mistress is gleefully atop him, her banner flapping as the circle overhead.

Landing much lower on the road, she eventually returns, then climbs higher to complete two more jumps.

Once this is successful, she looks through the telescope.

Seyardu returned a nod to Venom in recognition of the signs, before she settled into the remainder of the journey, swapping between reading her book and keeping watch. When they finally stopped for the day, Seyardu hopped off of the wagon, helping to unload the cargo carefully and set up camp, leaving the precautions to those more suited to doing so. If no one else stepped forward she set to preparing the fires, and the fare for dinner. She does stop to take a look at the telescope, squinting into the telescope to see the black sky.

"This one has learned from the cooks at the althean temple much about baking bread. There will be some fresh to have with dinner." She says to Venom once they had been buried in the coals of a died down fire. "Did you wish to speak now, or another time?"

Randolf hops down from the buckboard, hefting his pack up over his shoulders. He claps his hands briskly together. "Right, let's -do- this! Safety first!" He digs into one of his pouches for a beautifully wrought finger-bell and a slender length of silver wire. While the others unload the gear, he slowly paces a clockwise circle around the campsite. "Re ex re edkuuda nam namor," he incants, lightly tapping the wire to the bell to release the softest of chimes. Reaching his starting point, he turns and gestures grandiosely to the center. "Galrom!" There's a bright flash from the center of the circle, and a ring of silvery-blue light sweeps out, hanging for a second before vanishing in a flash. With a satisfied nod, he pockets his components. "There! That should give us warnin' if anyone decides tae try playin' cute!"

Now that security is seen to, he bustles about helping with any heavy lifting and moving that needs doing. A wizard he may be, but he's still a dwarf, and never one to shy away from hard work. Once things are set up, he goes to avail himself of the provender. Packing away three helpings of delicious camp stew and two servings of tasty apple crisp crumble, and washing it down with three mugs of beer (because he -is- a dwarf, so of -course- he brought beer). Settling himself down in his camp chair with a contented sigh, he fills his pipe and conjures a spark of flame to light the tobacco. "Do we know what time the conjunction will be happenin'?" he asks, puffing a billow of sweet vanilla-rum smoke into the air.

Venom is, perhaps relieved to finally be off the bench, now that the wagon has come to it's destination. She dips into a crouch, bouncing just a little on her haunches before she rises and starts to walk a patrol around the camp to get the blood back to... probably the recently unflattened parts of her butt.

It was a bit of a jaunt, after all.

As she walks, her Thunderbelcher is propped up and over her shoulder aimed at the sky, while a tiny black stone rolls between the fingers of her otherwise free hand.

On her return, having helped pitch what tents needed the extra hands, she watches the doings with the telescope, perhaps passively absorbing the instructions presented to the others.

Once the others have had their turn, she finally indulges her curiosity.

A furtive look is made to be sure no one is watching, then, the shrouded figure fluffs her veils up and over the eyepiece to allow her to take a peek without compromising her obfuscations too much, fingers adjusting the controls with some small familiarity at least.

Rameriez, handsome lad, gets to have some wind in his wings, the cliff face a perfect launching point to get some distance. The land around is rather sparsely populated with nothing more than the party, themselves, and wildlife. Yet, he does find a fast way up the cliffside, which also means a fast yet safe way down.

There's too many knobs to keep up with with the blasted telescope aside from the couple that knew how to work it, but the wizard was always kind to adjust it for those that want to take a look, a stool in place that goes up and down with a winch so the contraption wouldn't even need to be adjusted for the smaller folk. Peering through the small glass eyepiece yields...

Stars. Little pinpricks of light. It's nothing more than what one is used to seeing with the naked eye. But in time, with some patience from Adveni, your eyes adjust. And you see more. Between the black ink, where one sees nothing. When normally one can see the faintest splash of a bed of stars. One can make out the sheer ocean of nebulae, a wide band of violets and blues. Spirals and waves. They sit still, always having been there. Never moving. Waiting to be seen. Sparking thoughts of what could truly be waiting within the depths of the sky and the stars, to plunge beyond the veil of night.

Adveni warmly smiles.

"Now, I do not anticipate anyone else getting any funny ideas while we are out here with this. The Madam knight's steed enough might even deter any from considering the notion." He regards his fellow academic, glad that he was given a hand with setting up the thing. "Ah, about two hours before dawn." The half-sil grins.

With camp secure. It was now time to just... wait.

Paenitia secures a coffee for herself, then another, and a small serving of camp stew. A large serving is taken after the others have eaten, to feed to Ramirez. He likes if it cools some. The hippogryph is not one for coffee, typically, though he does enjoy the coffee beans.

Both knight and mount will be awake.

The little lucht takes her turn at the eyepiece, gazing into the deep. "Oh! There are hidden shades in the depths, the tapestry is visible, it move from mauve, through purple and blues. There is green also."

"It so full of stars!"

Seyardu squinted more. And when they were nearly finished taking a look, they chuff. "That is strange. It is complete shadow far away. But when magnified from this device, you can see the white that is present within that void, separate from the stars normally seen."

Seyardu steps back afterwards, settling into the camp. "We have a long night, then. But it will be alright." She says, settling to the cool grass. She would keep watch, but it was still possible to enjoy the sky. And knowing that there was still color present in the darkness of the sky was strangely comforting. "Thank you for securing the camp Randolf." She says to the dwarf as well.

Venom's posture stiffens a moment, then eases back into it's previous state as the figure is given a much deeper look at the night sky than she'd ever had. Glowing motes beyond count, already pinks and blues and yellows abound... woven between skeins of lavender cloud, azure mist, green fog....

The sight prompts a hitch of breath from beneath the veils, then a slow exhalation.

She soaks in the tapestry for some moments, perhaps spellbound, before she regains herself and draws back to her typical posture, giving the mage a deep bow.

Randolf watches the others taking their turns at the telescope, quietly puffing at his pipe with an indulgent smile. Paenitia's exclamation draws a rumbly chuckle from the burly dwarf, and he nods his head. "Aye, that's what's known as a nebular cluster," he says. "Great yuge clouds o' gas an' dust driftin' on the aetherial winds o' the Dark Between. When the light from the other stars passes through it, it makes 'em light up like yer seein' now!" He gives Adveni a glance, his grin broadening just a touch. As if to say 'awww, look at the fighter-types trying to be -wizardly-, aren't they just -adorable-?' To Seyardu, he nods his head with a smile. "It was my pleasure. I've been out on enough o' these field trips, I've learnt tae err on the side o' caution. Last thing we want is gettin' caught wi' our kilts in the wind!"

Hearing Adveni's estimation of the proper time for the conjunction, he nods his head. "Right, should give us plenty o' time then, nay?" He digs into his pack for his journal, propping it up in his lap. He tucks his pipe back in his mouth, sending up idle little puffs to join the fragrant fog bank he's built up. He produces a beautifully wrought fountain pen and an equally well-crafted inkwell, which he sets on the arm of his chair. Dipping his pen, he begins writing notes in his journal, his whiskers twitching around his pipe as he mutters to himself.

Although more rumor than anything, some traveling folk swear on their respective deities that there's something large out by these cliffs. Some say its a big duck, others say its an alligator with a massive maw. A ducki-gator? Such a road is well traveled of course, and it might just be hearsay.

Bozli beams as others get a chance to peer past the veil, him clearly taking pleasure in giving most that moment where their breath stills. It obvious he lives to give such moments. "Yes, so much drifts upon the night sky, yet here we are, down here only able to watch and wonder," he hums back. A lecturer at heart, humbled by something or another from his past as he had no qualms laying things out in simple terms for folk.

"So they are clouds, adrift in the sky? I do not see them move. How far away they are?" Paenitia asks. "the stars, they are not the spalling holes on the inside of the celestial dome? I have heard them call that before."

The little stargazing lucht peers into the eyepiece once more, "What the great black swaths that still black be?"

"Oh! I remember this road. It have the duck-i-gator."

'Ruaaaah?'

"Yes Ramirez, you hear what I say."

Venom takes out her paper and writing implements, walking off a few steps to scribe down a few notes, including a Kulthian formula or two.

That piece ends up being slipped under her poncho in the manner most of her things do, before she starts to scribble a quick note to show to the client.

"Is the darkness we normally see related to how distant objects look more blue tinted than they do up close?"

With a second underneath:

"Does your telescope use two stages of refraction or three?"

"It travels far. So far that the light is dissipated so much, that it becomes unable to be discerned." Seyardu suggests as she tilts her head skywards. "As for what is past that? Perhaps the telescope is not strong enough to pick up the light even farther. Perhaps there is nothing. It is not something I have considered before."

"A, duckygator? That sounds like a curious beast. Is it an alligator the size of a duck, or a duck the size of an alligator? Perhaps some combination of the two, like those owlbears this one has heard about?"

"Yes." Paenitia says. 'Ruaaah.' Ramirez concurs.

Randolf rumbles with laughter at Paenitia's question. "Holes in the sky? Och, what -do- they teach in schools these days? They're nae holes, lassie. They're the sparks o' Great Father' Reos' forge, left over from when he forged the world." He nods his head firmly--so it was written, and thus it must be so. He nods towards Seyardu. "Aye, she has it exact. 'Photonic attenuation' is what it's called. The same way that sounds are quieter the farther away they are, so too is light dimmer when it travels farther." He takes ahold of his pipe, pointing with the stem towards the sky. "Those points o' light are -vastly- far away. Hundreds o' billions o' leagues. Some ancient texts speak o' great ships that can sail the Dark Between. But the knowledge needed tae build these 'spelljammers' was lost long ago." He sighs wistfully up at the stars. "Maybe one day, I'll figure -that- one out," he says. "Wouldn't it be grand tae sail the skies, an' see other worlds?" Turning his gaze back to his book, he chomps back down on his pipe stem and resumes his writing. His brow furrows as he glances back at the lucht, then back to his book. "Potential. Encounter. Duck. Ee. Ga. Tor," he mutters. He peers at the page, then looks back up at Paenitia. "The hell's a -duckigator-?"

The diviner smiles broad at Paenitia's question, and he shrugs. "He has the right of it. But for the most part: Who. knows. Perhaps only the gods do. And why we're out here."

To Venom, he reads their notes, and gives a sharp nod. "You would be correct. That is why most of the stars appear as cooler colors. And as for your second question. Four!" Another broad grin.

It takes a considerable amount of waiting. Patience is truly tested here. Sleeping shifts are figured out and taken care of, and for those that wish to stay awake, the (un)healthy amount of black tea and coffee available sure helps. Bozli keeps himself awake by giving unsolicited mini lectures from the telescope about the stars to whoever is near him, correlating how the constellations signify various different deities and at what parts of the year make different ones shine the most. As well as myths that surround such appearances in the night sky.

And just a few hours before dawn break. It happens.

"Ah! Look! Look! You can see it with the naked eye!" Bozli gasps, jumping up and down on the spot and pointing off to the northwest. "It is Vicrah's Falling Star!"

Cresting from beyond a cloud, far, far away, was a pale red-white streak in the sky, the pinpoint so small it was difficult to discern. But with the night so clear, and so far away from Alexandria, it seemed like it's phosphorus glow made the clouds shoots by alight with the same hue.

"And that one there is Nariel's Comet!"

And from directly above, at the apex of the curtain of night, was another streak. This one white and yellow. Just as bright as the other one, it rockets down towards the phosphorus comet. Closer and closer the two draw near, spraying bright colors against the clouds in a dazzling display of light in the night. The trees, the camp, all around were being lifted from night as if the very sun was starting to dawn. Confused crickets and night owls buzz and hoot in protest, the day should not be now!

Seyardu was able to stay up if need be, she had a lot of experience with odd sleeping hours of late. Though she did enjoy some of the coffee a few times with others, seeming to enjoy the flavor with some sugar added to it. Aside from that, she listened in for the lectures, understanding little, but keeping it to memory, at least what she can. When the celestial even made it's presence known, she was up near where the others were, looking up. It was bright out like day, but where the sun should be, were instead two sources of light.

The silverscale squints.

"Bozli, you said they were supposed to be close. How close are they supposed to be? Vicrah's falling star looks like it is moving towards the other, not past it."

"Ah! Oh!" Paenitia says, looking to the sky. Her mask is not helping her see things, neither has the long night awake, and it wasn't her turn on the telescope. Still, the comets are unmistakable. "Vicrah, and Nariel's."

"Friend Dragon, Vicrah has the white and red that I have on my banner. The red like blood, you have seen, yes? The other, Nariel, is the colour of snow and the sun. Both shining beautiful."

Venom having take some time to rest when the option presented itself, did partake of some of the lecturing, and engages Seyardu in some silent conversation as things go on.

With showtime starting, however, she is a little slow on the uptake, until it's pointed out, and she looks up toward the stellar dance in play.

She doesn't have a lot to add to the narration, alas.

Randolf spends the evening conversing with the others while idly jotting notes in his book. He soon has numerous pages covered in his neat, precise handwriting, along with a few sketches and diagrams. When the comets are spotted, he looks up. "Och!" He sets his book aside and hops to his feet, upending his pipe to knock the ashes from the bowl as he lumbers over to where the telescope is set up. His gaze flicks between the two celestial bodies, eyes wide with awe. "Blessed be the hammer that forges the world," he mutters quietly. "Blessed be the Father that wields it. May His strength defend us always." Something the sith makar says draws the burly dwarf's attention. "Errh?" He looks back to the sky, squinting hard at the comets. Then, he raises his hands, making Ls with his thumb and forefingers and framing the two brilliant streamers. Slowly, he turns his hands, lining the angles up. Then his eyes get wide. "Beards o' me -fathers-!" he gasps, taking a step back. "I don't think they're goin' tae -pass-. I think they're goin' tae -hit-!"

It really is a sight to behold. Something that only happens once in a lifetime. The campsite and the foliage around even growing brighter and brighter. The colors spraying into a chromatic miasma of the whole band of a prism.

Bozli squints, him looking over at the silverscale and his fellow wizard and taking over the telescope with a few quiet apologies. "... That... there is no way that is going to? they can't... it's mathematically impossible! They pass by each other!"

But then, something occurs that makes it truly once in a lifetime.

The comets...

Collide.

There's a flash of brilliant, bright white light in the sky, so intense that it almost seemed as if day came back to the highest of noon for naught but a few seconds. And once your vision readjusts back to darkness of night, an even more perplexing sight. Nariel's Comet has completely gone off course. Instead of streaking down the night sky, or exploding into dust, it appears to have stopped.

The other falling star rockets off to the east, it lighting up the horizon as it goes.

Nariel's comet isn't moving.

No. It is. It's getting bigger.

And before one can draw breath to warn the other, it tears through a cloud, punching a hole through it with a trail of white light and kisses the open plains in a violent display of devastation. The ground quakes from the shock wave a plump of dust and dirt being thrown up into the sky in all directions, spooking the horses and knocking tends over. The diviner is only just barely able to save the telescope from falling off the cliff. Only a cycle of air could be held before a torrent of dust blasts across the camp, a buffet of air knocking everything else over as the telescope collapses to the grand with a sad snap of glass. The dust stills and settles. The night is deathly quiet.

And some two hundred feet away. A large crater greets all. There is a pale yellow light shining from its depths.

And a large growl from the distance in that direction pierces the silence.

"They come, like two horses in the race, closing on each other." Paenitia continues to narrate for Seyardu's benefit. "Full of light flashing in the spectrum. Ole! They strike each other."

"Ha! They must be men. They are name after men? Of course they fight."

"Now, Nariel, it hang... no..."

>>BOOM<<

She's rocked off her feet. Ramirez has more feet, so he's more stable, but is still buffeted by the wind and squawks his displeasure. Dust. Not the good dust of combat.

As the Red Knight picks herself up, the growl is heard. "The sunrise comes with cock crow. I guess the Meteor fall come with the duckygator. Ramirez! I mount!"

Seyardu was squinting as the light became brighter, almost unbearable. There was no mistaking it, due to the objects shifting closer together. She blocks her eyes with an arm, only lowering it to see the comet plummeting to the earth. Claws dig into the ground as she is nearly blown over, until it finally passes.

The silver makari coughs and rubs at her face to clear the dust. "Is everyone alright?" Is the first thing she asks while taking stock of the situation. Then, her attention turns to the crater. "Bozli, can you tell us anything about this? There is noise coming from over that direction." She asks afterwards, watching the edge of the cliff.

The silent one continues to watch, imagining the two moving at different altitudes, rather like from a distance birdpaths often cross in the sky.

She has enough time to whip her head around as the 'by' is usurped by the 'through' on the pass, perhaps in stunned alarm, when the sky turns brilliant with all the Dawnfather's ire.

She shields her eyes too late from the flash, and has spots behind her veils by the time the sky starts coming down. Perhaps due to the extra drag surface her attire provides, the shrouded one is plucked from her feet by the wave.

Long trained how to fall, Venom tucks into a lumpy oilcoth ball for some paces before ending the journey up on one knee.

Randolf startles back at the brilliant flash released by the collision. "Reos' flamin' beard!" he cries. He can't take his gaze off the comet that descends to the earth, slowly taking steps back as it veers ever closer. "Oh shit shit shit -shiiiiit-! EVERYONE TAKE CO--" But his warning is cut off by the comet's impact. Clapping his hand atop his bonnet, he stomps his foot down and leans forward into the blast wave. Gritting his teeth and letting loose a thundering "YEARRRRGH!" as he's shoved back by the dust-storm. His boots dig deep furrows into the ground, but like all his people, he's difficult to knock off his feet. As the storm passes, he drops to one knee, panting for breath. "Hnng... gah... is everyone all right?" He shoves back to his feet, brushing dust from his robes and shaking it out of his beard. And he just washed it this morning, too. That growl, however, has him freezing, his eyes wide behind the dirt masking him. Sloooooowly he turns towards the glowing crater left behind. "Oh, piss up my arse," he groans softly. "There's some unspeakable evil from beyond the stars in there, isn't there?"

"I-I'm *hack* fine!" Bozil pipes up, coughing up dirt and dust as he gets up from being thrown to the ground. He looks rattled, and a bit afraid. Not a man of the roads. "I-I don't know! I didn't study recent star falls! This wasn't supposed to h-happen!" he shakily recounts, peering over the edge of the cliff.

There's a growling roar from the crater, too far make out details from their vantage point and the lingering dust in the air. But one could see flashes of bright light going off, goldish yellow energy coming in sparking claps, sparking up the cloud of dust it was in. Someone's slinging magic.

A yelp comes from that way, as one bit of magic is cut off short.

"I am glad everyone seems alright." Seyardu states as she finds the box from before near the telescope. The growl again, the light coming from the crater is a worry. "Something is fighting, something, there, most likely. This one hopes it is not some unspeakable evil, but we should figure so out before it is too late."

She looks back to the half-sil wizard. "Will you investigate with us? It may be best to ready the carriage to leave immediately at the bottom of the cliff. But we cannot leave this uninvestigated. It seems Dame Paenitia agrees, and I will stand with her. Randolf, Venom? We cannot linger long."

"Turn the telescope on it." Paenitia advises, "See if it be two monstrosities fighting, or a hapless vagrant. I have vow to protect the helpless and innocent, but the vows may not apply for strange beasts."

The Red Knight is swept up by Ramirez's wing, into her saddle. "One can ride with me, we should arrive together if we go."

She's pulling out her shield, taking the reins.

Sadly, the telescope is broke. Some did not notice in the excitement.

A quick sign of, "I'm fine, thanks. How are you?" is returned to Seyardu's question, as she knows the Sith would understand the reply. <handspeech>

The glow and growl aren't terribly reassuring, and, as she rises to her feet, she spends a moment squaring her attire away before reaching under her poncho to bring out the Thunderbelcher.

She turns to look with a quizzical cant of her head to the Khazad's.... intriguing choice of invective, then turns to check her weapon. A twist, and the longarm breaks open, the back of a small steel cyllinder poking out of the breach before she twists it back into place, then thumbs down a lever beside the trigger.

She steps forward, then looks to her fellows and nods before giving a thumb's up.

"I can try to scout ahead." she offers through gestures. <handspeech>

Randolf grunts, doffing his bonnet and bowing his head. He briskly ruffles his fingers through his hair, kicking up a cloud of dirt that induces a massive, bellowing "HAH-SHOO!" Snerking through his large nose, he claps his bonnet back atop his head (kicking up another puff of dust in the process). "Aye, if there's summat out there, we need tae make sure it dinnae go tearin' across the countryside," he grumbles. He reaches to his belt to draw his wand, giving it a couple whips through the air to limber up. "Let's go have a look. Hopefully this won't be too rough a fight." He strives to keep his tone brave, even as inside his confidence is foundering. He's read just enough about extradimensional entities and transplanar neoforms to know just how rough this fight -could- get. Squaring his broad shoulders, he stumps over to join the others. "Think I might be too heavy fer yer fine lad there, Dame," he says, looking at Ramirez with a squint. "But one o' the horses should do me fine, I'll warrant."

"I am alright Venom." Seyardu responds, and nods. She reaches into her bag to pull out a platinum ring which she offers to the dwarf wizard. "Keep this on you, though I would like it back afterwards. It will help keep you safe as we investigate."

Once that was taken care of, she offers a prayer, before she steps off to the side. "Perhaps Venom, but we should stay close. We know not what awaits down there."

Bozil gives a shuddering nod. "Y-Yes, take one of the horses, Randolf. I will bring the carriage over there. G-Go, go! I will meet with you s-shortly!"

The party rips down the path that Rameriez found earlier, cutting down their time immensely as they rush through the dusty air. Boot, foot, claw and talon crunching through the soft ground underfoot as the crash site draws near. Half on foot, the other half mounted. Upon the lip of the crater, smoke still rises from its gentle slopes downward. The air is warm and burned.

In the epicenter of this explosion, is a chunk of red hot metal. Strewn around the ground is smatterings of shining gold. Hunkered over the metal is a large creature. Spikes cover the body of this vaguely reptilian beast, its fearsome face features dagger-sharp teeth and unnaturally glowing red eyes, trails of crimson light following in their wake as their head whips about. Bits of blood trickle from dozens of shards of red metal along its flank.

It stills, and settles its gaze on the party.

From its maw hangs a tiny, limp body. Dripping golden blood. With two, gold stained, broken wings.

A note in the air. Soft was its prose, and its hymn understood by any that let it caress them. "Help..." the little body wheezes. <Tongues>

The beast responds by dropping them, and bellowing to the night sky.

The creature seems to be a kind of magical beast. A Hodag. Known for their wicked tails and ability to toss creatures with it's ferocious charge. But something is... not normal about it. At all. The winged creature that was dropped is some kind of celestial being, based on the color of its blood and the language it used. Of what kind it is? It is a bit hard to tell from the dust

Randolf's eyes get wide as he sees the dreadful scene before him. "Beards o' me fathers... hang on, lassie, I'm comin'! HYAH!" He puts his heels to the horse's flanks. But the beast is far more suited to drawing carts and lazing around in stables. It canters back, eyes rolling as it whickers in fear. "No, no gods damn it, go forwaAAAAAAGH!" Randolf gets bucked off the horse with a flailing of his stumpy arms and legs. He lands heavily, scrabbling to his feet with a snarl. "Oh, I hope ye get made intae -glue-!" he snarls at the panicking horse. Turning back to the crater, he digs into his hip satchel for a scroll, making ready to head into the fray.

The creature buckles low as the plea for help goes out, red eyes intensifying on the party as Randolf struggles to get out of his saddle, the horse too spooked. They step on the little broken being, them making another yelping sound as the large lizard bounds up in a ferocious charge. Trails of crimson streaming behind them. And as they approach, everyone's minds shudder. The creature grows larger. Larger. Filling out the night sky and eating all light away as if it-

Something is absolutely not right with this creature. It seems like the metal shards littering its body pulse slightly, the same shade of grey that its eyes glow. And with that religion check, one can tell the limp creature is a celestial of some kind. And it is most certainly bleeding out.

Seyardu was focused on the injured figure. Too focused, that the charging creature that seemed to warp the space around it came suddenly, more suddenly than she expected from the size. The cleric is sent tumbling through the air, landing nearby with a thud and a grunt. She stands up with aid from her polearm, looking back to the two creatures.

"Mind the shards! They glow with their eyes, there may be something too them. That's a celestial over there!"

She reaches for her holy symbol beneath her armor. "Celestial mother, staunch this servant's wounds, and guide us through this fight." They pray, staunching the bleeding hopefully.

Venom is taken somewhat aback by the size of the creature, and the speed with which it moves amongst them, knocking poor Seyardu about.

Mot about to take that, perhaps trying to get the monster's attention, she throws a couple of wild swings at the beast, but it's unfamiliar shape causes her to badly misread where it's going to be, missing badly twice.

The last punch, however, does land, and the scaled surface yields to the impact, if only just. This thing is tough-time to play dirty.

"Ole! Now we dance."

Ramirez snaps, but his beat is turned by it's incredibly thick hide.

As Randolf draws near the downing being, he can tell it is not moving. Alive. But not conscious.

The creature looks down at Paenitia, a wicked smile crossing its features as it pulls back. The lance having nicked something serious as blood pools out. Calling the challenge, one claw tries to slam down on the veiled woman, using the motion to bring a long, whiplike spiked tail to crush against their side like a sick morningstar.

It's maw comes down at the knight, unable to get past the armor, but it holds her still long enough for the battering of a taloned limb to batter them.

It stands strong. But it bleeds.

The veiled woman takes the tail slap with a loud huff of the air being knocked out of her, but like the reed in the wind, her stance bends with the force with less resistance, and so she does not break.

As she straightens, however, and Seyardu's blessing suffuses her awareness with greater clarity and alacrity, she allows the Thunderbelcher to land in the broken rocks at her feet and unleashes a flurry of much more precise blows this time around.

A knuckle punch into the thinner scales behind it's 'armpit', half-closed fist jammed into the depression between two vast ribs, a knife hand that sadly skates off the alien scales, and lastly a retry that plunges her fingers once more into the softer scales under it's foreleg.

Unlike her previous blows, these seemed to afflict the creature to a much greater degree, and so it stands, battered in the aftermath, awaiting her companions to show it the truth:

It's already dead.

Paenitia fights, shrugging off the beast's maw but feeling the impact of its tail. "Ha! I kiss, you kiss back! Feel the heartbreak of my lance."

Ramirez rears, to give his mistress more impetus, and she leans in as he lungs. Her first stab deflects off scales, yet her second thrust, her third, pierce and plunge deep. Blood flows as she withdraws.

'Ruaaaah!' Ramirez challenges as well. Snap! Snap! Twice its scales turn his beak, leaving he flustered, but his talons come home, one ripping long furrows.

"You pick the wrong planet to crash, my friend." Paenitia laughs.

GAME: Randolf used a Scroll of Protection From Evil.

Randolf gasps as he feels divine vigor filling his limbs. He shoots a glance over at the silverscale. "Och, -now- ye do this?!" he cries in a strangled voice. This would have been handy a few seconds ago! Pouring on the speed, he trundles over to the celestial, skidding to a halt and dropping to his knees. "Easy, lassie, easy. I've got ye," he says soothingly. With a snap of his wrist, he unfurls the scroll he'd dug out of his pocket. He lifts it up and raises his voice. "RE EX ORBIUS ANTOS DIFALGAE!" he thunders. The magicked ink flares brightly on the parchment, transforming to glittering golden motes that drift away like shimmering dust, and a silver pentacle expands before the celestial, whirling out into a defensive diagram before locking into place with a chime. As the shards are driven away from the being, the burly dwarf nods in satisfaction. Turning back to the hodag, he readies his wand, setting his jaw with a scowl.

The shards fall free, clattering to the smoking ground of scorched earth. The little being, no more than a foot and a half in height, takes in new life in a breath and slowly raises its hooded and veiled head towards them. "Thanks..." it chimes softly. <Tongues>

The massive lizard, now bleeding from every vein and staggering about, roars in unbridled fury as its last ebbs of life are taken away from it. The motion from Randolf makes them whip around, and, their red eyes wide, begins to rush after them with sloppy slaps of bloodied talons against the ground.

With the giant lizard roaring and rushing the dwarf, Seyardu roars in turn. Her feet dig into the ground, and the adamantine weapon is brought overhead. The adamantine blade and hook brought down, piercing its flank. With a grunt she catches it in the side. With a grunt of effort she pulls back, keeping the berserk beast dragged back a precious moment.

"Paenitia, Venom! Strike now!" She grunts, already being dragged through the dirt from the strength of the beast.

"Ramirez!" Paenitia calls. He caws and snaps. Again, scales turn his beak.

The little Lucht Knight leans around his neck, throwing her weight behind her thrust. "Thank you friend dragon!" Seyardu's bill hook has dragged it into position. Her lance drives into an already wounded spot, going deep into the star-beast.

"Ole!"

The dust, quite literally, begins to settle, the spark of life waning from its crimson eyes as it collapses to the ground from the tandem effort. It thrashes. Twitches. Before it stills. And silence pervades.

There's a squeeking of a wagon wheel, and a wagon with a familiar wizard atop it with a summoned, spectral horse taking place of the borrowed one stands from the driver's seat.

"... what in Navos's....?" he mutters.

From the sky, far to the east, Vicrah's Falling Star vanishes beyond the horizon.

Breathing heavily, Seyardu pulls her weapon out of the beast as it finally falls to the ground. "Is everyone alright? Seyardu asks those present as she was already running over to where the celestial had fallen. "And you, are you alright as well? Can you understand me?"

She turns back to the wagon and their guide. "It seems there was more to this falling star than stone and metal." She explains.

Randolf stands his ground as the hodag come thundering towards him. Balling up his fist and lifting his wand, he points it at the beast. He may die, but he'll die fighting. But his comrades come to his rescue, felling the monstrous beast with their tactical skills. As it falls, Randolf slowly lowers his wand, panting for breath. He turns back to the celestial, gently going to one knee before it. "Yer safe now," he says softly. "But..." His gaze rises to the horizon, watching the comet as it sails beyond the rim of the sky. "Can... can ye get home on yer own? I don't know the magic that can send ye back," he says, looking back down. As Bozil arrives, Randolf turns his eyes up to his fellow spell-flinger. "Master Adveni... I think this poor lass needs our help," he calls.

As the lizard decides to act on Randolf's charitable castings, Venom whirls, trying to mule-kick a two-toed waffle print in the great beast's body, but her relative angle is bad, and all she manages is to push herself momentarily off balance.

Thankfully, the others are there to seal the deal, and, with the massive lizard hitting the deck, the veiled woman dips into a crouch to pick up her gun, then signs, "Anyone hurt?" <handspeech>

She affords them a thumbs-up for her own benefit, then walks over to check on the others more closely, drawing up as she nears Randolf and their... visitor.

Paenitia gives a suggestive little squeeze with her heels and Ramirez knows what to do. He fans his tail, wide and rattling, as she pulls up the brace of halberds. The hippogryph rears tall, balancing on his hind legs, clawing the air, one hind hoof in triumph on the creature.

They are silhouetted by the rising sun and the vanishing comet. Paenitia's banner flaps behind her, lance held high, the multi-coloured morning lights glinting off her armour and his feathers.

'Ruaaaah!' He caws.

"Ha!" She laughs. "Victory is ours!"

Bozli scrambles from out of his seat and jogs down into the crater, a ruby potion in sloshing in hand. Slowing some as the sound of victory rings from the Red Knight.

The small celestial, broken and battered, pulls itself to its knees and looks up to the party. There are no facial features that could be seen, aside from a dim glow of solid gold eyes behind an ornamental white veil and gilded hood. The cooling hunk of metal beside them gaining a slight hue of alabaster, and a soft sunshine gold. The tiny celestial shakes their head at Randolf's question.

They speak once more, less in the chimes and melody, but still wholly understood.

"My name... is Nariel," they speak soft, pained.

The sky lights from in the east. Followed by the sound of a distant explosion.

They flinch.

"And I... am most certainly going to need your help."
