Razen to the Rescue

Ah, the swelteringly hot, blindingly bright days of a sunny summertime at the river's edge. Some city folk are here trying to keep to the shade of the bridge above or some lone tree upon the riverbank. A few others are swimming in the shallows near the bank. Ga'Elian is standing atop a boulder cracking a masterwork bullwhip for the sheer practice of the technique. Erithamiel the griffon is swimming, snapping up occasional fish.

Morgan does not seem bothered with the heat as she is walking down towards the water. she stop to admire the griffon who is hunting or tormenting the fish.

Yelrona is sitting on the prow of a small boat that drifts by the Tornmawr, under the Highbridge. She is fishing, albeit in an idiosyncratic fashion... she has affixed a length of cord to an arrow, and fires her bow into the water and retrieves the arrow. Every once in a while, she hits a fish, which she pulls in along with the arrow. She doesn't notice Elian or Morgan at first, but a particularly loud CRACK gets her attention, and she looks up at the source of the sound and waves.

From up the bank Razen strides, looking quite affected by the heat. He's currently wearing nothing more than his breeches, weapons, and boots, all of his other clothing left behind where he was staying - and he's still sweating heavily. He wipes some of it from his brow. The half orc jangles as he walks, and when he spots Ga'Elian and the others he smiles and lets out a booming greeting. "Hello!"

Ga'Elian lowers his whip and hops down. He reaches out to shake the half-orc's hand, and offers gibberish words in the tone of a greeting.

GAME: Ga'Elian casts Endure Elements. Caster Level: 19 DC: 14

Suddenly, the sweaty man feels comfortable.

The peaceful (or, well, peaceful-except-for-the-whip-cracking) afternoon is shattered by a shout from nearby, where a young swimmer appears to be having some trouble. They flail at the surface of the water and then drop beneath it with a splash.

Yelrona, occupied by a particularly recalcitrant fish, does not notice.

Razen is about to ask what Ga'Elian is saying, but he never even really has a chance to notice that he's feeling cooler before the swimmer goes under the water. Without hesitation he turns and runs into the water swimming toward the poor drowning individual without bothering to drop either of the weapons he's carrying.

Morgan sees the one swimmer having a problem "Raz Elian someone needs help." she would of jumped in but knows she would be dragged under easily. She is preparing a spell for the one that will jump in. Ga'Elian, seeing Razen rush in to aid the distraught swimmer, walks briskly to the water's edge.

Morgan points a spell at Razen to make him stronger.

GAME: Razen rolls Athletics+1: (5)+7+1: 13

In spite of the spell which Morgan casts Razen finds that his weapons are pulling him down. So he looses them in the water, trusting that they will sink rather than get caught in the current. Then he grasps the swimmer and pulls the younger person in his arms and starts kicking back to the edge of the water. In a moment he's at the bank, looking over the swimmer to make sure that they made it okay.

Morgan walks up to the edge hoping the swimmer is ok.

GAME: Ga'Elian rolls Heal: (5)+8: 13

Ga'Elian leans down to examine the swimmer, who sputters and spits out water, gasping for a deep breath. He asks, "Are you alright?" He doesn't seem to be stressed that the rescued swimmer remains in any real danger.

Razen has already rescued the swimmer by the time Rona's boat reaches them, so she just grounds it on the shallows and hops out to join the others. Everything seems to be under control, so she simply watches.

The half orc - helpfully - smacks the person he rescued on the back. "You should be more careful out there! You alright?"

"Yea..." The young man coughs more water up and winces at Razen's helpful smack. "Thanks."

Morgan looks to Razen "The spell I casted on you will wear off in a few minutes, but I can stop it now if you wish?"

Ga'Elian smiles, and says, "Well, that was exciting." As Yelrona gets near, he waves at here and says, "It's all alright." Then to Morgan he turns and says, "Being a little brawnier when wearing naught but skivvies ain't a bad thing." He smirks.

Yelrona reaches down and plucks a length of vine from the young man's ankle. "Hrm. You must have gotten tangled up in the underwater vegetation somehow," she says, looking over the river's surface skeptically. "You're lucky Razen was paying attention!"

She looks at Razen and adds "Weren't you carrying weapons, before?"

Razen rubs a hand over his arm and looks at Morgan, but Yelrona's words distract him from the spell she'd cast on him. "Oh yea! Be back in a second!" He runs back to the water and starts swimming out again. In a few moments he's reached about the location where the young man had nearly drowned and dives down to find his weapons. It's much easier to drag them back without the young man in his arms.

Meanwhile the young man in question is getting to his feet, watching Razen drag his equipment back to the beach. "Wow. That spell of yours is pretty good ma'am!" He's clearly talking to Morgan.

Morgan admiringly looking at Razen for a moment before she looks to the young man. "It’s one most casters learn, I keep it ready due to my noodle arms." said with a calm smile.

Yelrona keeps an eye on Razen, just to make sure nothing happens to him out there, then nods as he makes his way back with his arms in his arms.

"It is," she agrees, nodding to Morgan appreciatively. "Though most of those muscles are natural," she adds casually.

The young man seems impressed.

Ga'Elian snaps his fingers and the rescued youth instantly dries. He tells him, "Lad, thou hast been favored by the whim of Tarien who put a team of Alexandria's famous adventurers on the scene. This is the wizard Morgan, and he," pointing to Razen, "is the warrior Razen."

Razen laughs as he comes back out of the water, hearing Ga'Elian's introduction of him. He shakes his weapons as free of water as he can, but their craftsmanship leaves him unconcerned that the water will harm them much. He ties them both off and clasps the elf on the shoulder. "You could have done the same I wager Ga'Elian. You are as at home in the water as a fish." The half orc glances at Morgan. "If you would not mind now... the spell?"

Morgan asks Razen "make sure you got everything before I do stop the spell." then says to Rona "I once casted a spell to see what I would look like if I had the built of someone like Razen here." she is looking at his pecks while talking "I think I best just keep in shape and not work out like him."

Ga'Elian snaps his fingers again, and Razen's weapons are dry and immaculate - likely even more clean than normal, then does so again, and Razen is dry again, too. He says, "Well, with your swift response, I had no need." ;)

Yelrona chuckles at Morgan's comment, and considers Razen for a moment before her appearance changes. She grows about a foot (which still leaves her considerably shorter than the half-orc) and develops muscles on her muscles. The result is decidedly unconvincing, and she looks down at herself for a long moment before shaking her head. "No, not for me," she says, and returns to her earlier appearance.

Razen watches Yelrona grow and takes a small step back from her. "Ah... I am sure I have everything." He's looking a little disconcerted about the changes to his own body which he hadn't really taken stock of before. He is indeed at this moment extraordinary muscular. Body builders would envy him.

Ga'Elian and the lad both gawk at Yelrona as she transforms. When she reverts, the ranger says, "You're certainly more attractive the way nature made you, but it was still fascinating to watch." The lad nods vigorously.

The young man rises up now and swipes at his own backside, trying to brush off the grass and dirt, then says, a little nervously, "Well, thanks, Mr. Razen. Thanks." He scoots back to rejoin his own mates.

Morgan looks to Rona changing her height "Too bad that only makes you look tall and does not make you tall. Hate things on high shelves."

Yelrona nods to Morgan. "Yes, agreed. It's a useful bit of magic, but fairly limited."

Razen watches the exchange between the two women as they discuss magical... stuff. He looks more uncomfortable by the second. "Morgan... the spell?" He asks hopefully. The half orc offers Ga'Elian a mildly distracted grin, flashing his fangs at the elf. "It comes in handy. I took down a weird magical spore-spouting mushroom with it not that long ago. You want to see it?" He starts uncoiling it, gray-green eyes flickering toward Morgan occasionally.

Morgan stops the spell.

Yelrona leans casually against a nearby tree to watch as Razen uncoils his finely crafted chain for Elian's inspection.

Ga'Elian smiles at Razen and says, "Sure. I don't often pay mushrooms much attention... unless they glow and have interplanar portals in them, of course."

It's clear once Razen offers up his weapon to Ga'Elian that it is a piece of masterwork. Finely interwoven links interspaced by jagged spikes. "It turned out to belong to a big fungus dragon." He seemed to enjoy chatting amicably about fighting things, particularly once he noticed that his muscles have finally gone back down to their proper size. - He still hasn't noticed that he's not being as bothered by the weather, attributing it to his dip in the river.

Yelrona blinks in bewilderment at Elian's comment. "Er... do you often run into glowing mushrooms housing interplanar portals?" Then Razen makes the comment about fungus dragons, and she shakes her head. Too many mushrooms. "I prefer my mushrooms in stew, to be honest."

Morgan says to Razen "I can make a belt that will make you stronger if you want. I can also make it make you sturder and nimble."

Ga'Elian turns to Yelrona and says, "I suppose once is often enough. At any rate, it's more often than I've met a fungus dragon. That sounds kinda... repulsive. As for stewed mushrooms, I agree. You know, that calzone place in the Vadran village seems to use a lot of mushrooms."

As the conversation between Ga'Elian and Yelrona drifts toward food Razen is stymied by Morgan's offer. "Um..." He looks at the others and decides to jump into that conversation instead. "We should go get some! If they have either at least we'll have a good fight before our meal!"

Yelrona blinks. "Um... sure, all right," she agrees. "I'd been planning on fish," she notes, pointing to her boat, "but they can keep until tomorrow."

Ga'Elian nods. Says, "Well, speaking of calzones, I think I'll go get something to eat. I'll see you all later." He blows his (non-magical) horn, and the griffon comes out of the river to join everybody.

Ga'Elian offers to fly the whole lot of us to Vadran for calzones.

Razen eagerly accepts.
