PrP: Sinkhole Part 2

After the initial group of adventurers successfully gained access to the mysterious building inside the massive sinkhole, it quickly became evident that reinforcements were going to be wanted. The initial team has been split, as has the exploration duties; your team's section involves a side passage leading left from the main wide corridor outside the front doors.

You've been walking and poking your noses into doors for about a candlemark now, perhaps a little more, and all has been quiet. You've found the odd hunk of metal, mostly beaten brass and usually either flat and hand-sized or chain-like, but no other sign of life and nothing else moves in the echoing, empty stone corridors. Those glowing red words still pulse softly on every wall, eerily silent. It's been creepily quiet, and the group has had the time to get to know one another, exchange names and so forth as any adventuring team will.

The pair of double doors you're approaching now is made of thick iron, tightly shut with teeth between them holding them shut. Next to them on the right side, a thin slot with a colorless stone set into the metal is visible.

Samson grimaces, "I still find it odd the key was left outside, though I suppose someone must have locked these things inside as they escaped and.." He shrugs, "Died out there or something."

Having been in the original group of adventurers, Kidda ponders the thin slot. Assorted pieces of brass? Kidda's been picking them up, looking them over, and keeping anything that might look like the one that got them into the building in the first place.as she looks over the door, the slot, and the colorless stone beside it, she looks at the stack of flat brass bits she's gathered. (The chains? Not likely useful, and they might weigh her down...) "Hrm," she mutters. "I'm thinking someone went running and just plain dropped it. Still..."

Cool blue eyes gleam in the quiet and the dark, and their owner stands both warden and sentry as he gazes into the ruddy darkness. "I see no intrusive," Thanix announces for the fourth time, cool beams slicing the dark. Sapphire orbs gleam with the grey metal helm as the Warforged keeps watch during the exploration. Silence hardly his forte-- the thick metal feat crunch on shards, wires, and things best left unimagined as he walks. Nor small talk-- he gazes on, for all the world as much a statue as he emulates.

Yngvild doesn't seem to quite have her usual level of relaxed comfort when in tighter quarters underground, but the towering Aesir cleric seems to be bearing it well. She is using her massive earthbreaker as something of a walking staff, with the benefit of it being readily at hand "Hmmm" she rumbles thoughtfully as she considers the door and those around her, perhaps unusure of the best way to proceed.

"It could have been an area more than one person needed access to." Jahnavi the egalrin clicks her beak together as she eyes the door. She's been relatively quiet, reviewing notes in her head. "In the meantime, no one has had access. So, whatever it is they were working on...has run loose. The last report included mention of violent constructs. Does that coincide with everyone else's notes?"

"Mine, for certain," Kidda nods. "Got some wacks in... the constructs came straight at us... not evil, just metal... nasty metal to try and shut down. The wizard got them to quit moving for us, with magic, so there's that, maybe..." she looks at the door some more, debating trying one of the pieces of metal in her hand. "Samson? Do we still have the original key we found, or is it with one of the others?"

The gnome blinks, "What, I didn't carry it. Someone else must have it." Samson grunts "Its all kulthian and color codes, who reads kulthian." He looks around.

Thanix responds without looking about, blue beams glowing serenely into the darkness. "I believe the techgnomigist carried it with him," he replies, head whirring silently. "The logic he presented was irrefutable at the time-- he stated that it would be better used in his possession."

You paged (Kidda, Samson, Jahnavi) with 'There's something moving on the other side of the door. Maybe not /right/ there ... but it's not the silence you've been encountering.'

You paged Samson with 'It sounds like a scraping to you.'

Kidda holds up a hand, "hsss" she shushes the group, moving closer to the door and dropping the metallic objects in her belt pouch to take a tighter grip on her sword, draw the weapon from its scabbard. She puts a pointed ear to the door, "there's something moving around back there," she murmurs, sotto-voce. "Could be coming this way..."

"Hopefully my little friend here can take care of annoying metal" Yngvild rumbles as she hefts her hammer, roughly the size of a small human. At mention of Kulthian she shakes her head, some few tendrils of her red locks escaping below the helm of the full plate she wears when adventuring "Barely manage common some days" she admits ruefully, then falls silent as instructed.

"I suspect most of them are out of control," Jahnavi says grimly. Her hands tighten, the scale-claws white around the knuckle of her bardiche. "Like children without directions."

Samson tilts his head, moving to the door and leaning against it. "Scraping...it could be one of those things trying to get out."

"Acknowledged," Thanix replies, far more quietly. Unmoving from his place, he rotates carefully at his waist, a gentle twist as he angles himself toward the door. Blade removed from back clamps with tiny 'snikt' sounds; blue glow dimmed as he observes the doorway intently.

<OOC> Kidda has been collecting metal bits. Do any of them look like the right kind of bits to open the door?
<OOC> Aldean says, "Four or five of them do."
<OOC> Samson says, "The door requires a keycard and you then play Simon"
<OOC> Kidda says, "Sweet."

Samson nods and backs up a little, but is still near the door, checking his brass knuckles a bit on his fist. "I definatly dislike these things." He grimaces.

<OOC> Yngvild says, "Can I hold an action to cast bless if anything scary comes through the door? :P"
<OOC> Aldean says, "Yes."

Kidda, bits of metal in-hand, steps over to the slot by the door, and sticks the potential keys into the slot, one by one, until one of them - hopefully - causes a reaction from the clear stone beside the slot.

As Kidda starts to try to open the door Yngvild takes position to one side. She keeps one hand on her hammer, as the other reaches for the holy symbol that dangles down the front of her breastplate. She closes her eyes a moment to focus, lips moving in an uncharacteristicaly sotto-voiced prayer that stops towards the end as she waits.

Jahnavi tilts her head to the side as Kidda approaches the door. She steps back, watching one and then the other. Her hands, shoulders show the unease at hearing something moving on the other side.

It takes a minute and she has to try four of the bits of metal, but finally, one of the bits of flat brass, when inserted, causes the colorless stone next to it to glow with a cold white light. The doors slide open with a grind and a click....

It's the stench that hits everyone first. A foul reek of centuries of rot and decay hits the group like an eye-watering wall, a wave of pure AUGH. Then, you see the problem. Tentacles wrap around a ... something that looks like it's been stitched together of claws, fingers, arms, hooves, legs ... of corpses of every race. One is motionless in the tentacles of the otyugh that holds it, and appears to have one bat-like wing stitched to its back that drags along the ground. Nom nom nom ... DINNER! A second, similar stitched-together creature stands motionless on the other side of the door, simply ... watching.

<OOC> Aldean says, "Jahnavi. What you've actually got is a continuation of the corridor with doors beyond it. The otyugh's about 40' into the corridor, having dinner of one of these stitched-together things. There's another door further down that is quite busted open; there's a second one of these stitched corpses standing motionless just inside the door you just opened."
<OOC> Aldean says, "I'm sorry, that should have been in my pose."
<OOC> Jahnavi aha. And no worries. Lots of details. :3

<OOC> Jahnavi says, "I don't have that. So just moving to the edge and striking at a tentacle. Make the best use of reach I can, and apologies for all my spamming. ^^;"

<OOC> Aldean says, "You have a bardiche yes? No worries, this is relevant. Edge of what?"

Jahnavi drops the bardiche down and across and brings it to brace. It places the egalrin inside the creature's reach and the texture of her feathers shows the unease. And then the creature strikes, drawing blood.

The stitched creature, as Jahnavi moves past it, comes to life, ambling after the Egalrain and raising magically strengthened corpse-like arms. The first smashes into Jahnavi, but the second misses her by a hair.

Thanix takes a moment, gleaming eyes emotionlessly taking in the scene. Inner working whir and hiss as the giant metal knight lurches into motion-- one foot, the next, ground eating strides as he strides forward to the other side of the Egalrin. Metal cuts the air in a vicious arc as the heavy blade slices the air-- it cuts against teh ground with an ear-splitting *CLANG*, but deftly misses the warped horror before them.

From afar, Jahnavi raises a hand. Sorry about th' interruption. The corpse-golems have reach?

As the golem steps forward, Jahnavi brings her weapon to bear, jabbing in a quick, choked-up position that slices through its shoulder. It doesn't appear to notice.

The gnome shakes his head, "Ugh..." Then he moves up quickly and slams a fist into one of the corpse thingies....of course, the fist bounces off, apparently he didn't connect right. "Bah!" he says.

Kidda growls low in her throat and takes a step to move into range with the ... stitched together ... thing ... in the corrdior. She swings her longsword - and misses - and the oath she lets out turns the air around her a bright shade of blue.

Hey look! Fresh dinner this time...when was the last time that happened? The second tentacle drops the motionless corpse-thing to the stone floor with a wet, meaty *splat*, turning to face Jahnavi. It lunges with a massive mouth full of teeth, taking a filthy chunk out of one wing.

And then there comes the threat and Yngvild returns to her usual boisterous self "IRON MOUNTAIN WITNESS. BLESS THOSE WHO FIGHT IN YOUR NAME" she thunders to the heaven as she raises hammer and symbol upwards. The blessing of Angoron radiates from the Aesir cleric as the melee starts. She hefts her hammer, bright blue eyes scanning about as she trundles down eyes thoughtful. She starts to chant something but then as Jahanavi gets hit twice in a row she pauses just outside of the range of the flailing tentacle. She turns her face and throws up her arms to the heavens, a bright blue glow emanating from her eyes to engulf her form and that of the Egalrin "ANGORON HEAL THOSE WHO SHOW THEIR STRENGTH. LET THEM FIGHT IN YOUR NAME" she demands to the heavens as the glow settles around Jahnavi's wounds. Not one of nature's quieter clerics it seems.

<OOC> Aldean says, "So you know -- the one golem is the equivalent of dead."
<OOC> Aldean says, "The other is the one you're carving up."
<OOC> Jahnavi aha. Ok. X)

The thundering voice from Angoron's faithful shudders across the egalrin's shoulder like a physical wave. She steps back, straightening as the wave echoes, and brings the bardiche to bear with Strength's blessing behind it!

Still the corpse-thing -- whatever it is -- appears to move with a single-mindedness, focusing on but a single thing and ignoring even the bardiche as it carves terrible gashes in the hideous amalgam of a creature -- that is, until it's attacked. It turns on Kidda, and misses the first time, but connects with the second -- a glancing blow at best.

Thanix wrenches the greatsword's blade up from the floor with a hydraulic, heaving wrench. Metallic pistons squealing, the wargolem whirls the blade in an overhead arc, striking a second time-- with similar results, the edge ewretchedly dulled, carving another stone-shrieking gouge in the floor. "Targeting compromised," he announces, matter-of-factly. "Attempting to adjust."

The little gnome starts pounding away with the brass knuckles, the being resistant to some of the damage, but one hit doing a bit of an impact. The gnome looks highly annoyed with the results though.

"Oh no you don't!" Kidda snarls as the stitched-together thing slashes her shoulder open. A glancing blow, but the paladin's ire is raised, and her longsword flashes, a backhanded blow, lethal and sharp, slicing the creature in two.

Even as the carrion-corpse-thingy simply drops soundlessly to the stone floor, appearing to lose all life and animating force so that it closely resembles a disgusting ragdoll, the otyugh turns on Samson. Tentacles lash out, one missing entirely, but the other digs into the gnome's skin and wraps itself around him, holding him fast.

You can't steal our gnome like that. Yngvild's eyes light up with an angry passion as she hefts her hammer and bellows a warcry "ANGORON!" booms out and echoes off the wall as she swings her huge weapon. Which may look all kinds of impressive, but manages to chip a large chunk of the wall, almost unbalancing the Aesir.

The egalrin, wing bleeding from the golem's assault, steps forward and brings the bardiche forward, jabbing towards the abomination's writhing mass. She misses.

"Alert-- humanoid endangered!" Thanix' eyes pulse alarm as he shifts to the otyugh's side, dragging the greatsword after him with a burst of sparks. The great blade whirls as the Forged brings it up, over again; to avoid hiting the gnome, he simply swings it down a third time, a great, overhand arc towards center of mass. The blade leavse sparks screaming from the floor--- and a spray of gore, heavy weapon cleaving flesh like butter. Moving opposite the Egalrin, he attempts to cut off any escape.

Samson wiggles and squirms, trying to slip around, but apparently can't seem to get clear of the creatures hold. The little gnome remains held tightly.

Kidda, seeing the gnome caught up in the tentacle-beast's clutches, lowers her head, and her longsword, and charges in hard and fast - sliding on her own blood from the shoulder wound. Though she doesn't go down, it costs her, and her sword goes between a tentacle and the otyugh's enormus and disgusting body.

Hmmm ... fresh noms for later. Although Thanix's greatsword cleaves a deep, ichorous gash in the thing's body, it's still got something in its tentacles....finish this off first, shouldn't take long -- it squeezes the gnome hard.

Yngvild mutters several rather irreligious curses about the unlikely parentage of the disgusting beast as she hefts her hammer again. Then listening to the rather distressing cracks coming from the poor gnome, and looking at the other injured she raises her hammer to the heavens again "PATRON OF HEROES HERE ME!" she demands in a stern and proud voice as that holy blue glow emanates from her eyes "HEAL US!" she commands with out-flung armsas the glow engulfs all her companions.

"Samson," Jahnavi says. Her voice is filled with determination, and bolstered by the strength of faith of Angoron's Warrior. The weapon strikes true...almost True, but not quite. She steps back from the blow, feathers shuddering.

"Adjust targeting," the warforged intones casually, slick metal rising with a schlick of gore. Ther weapon swings again-- this time not for the monster itself directly, but towards the tentacle holding Samson. Sharp metal, up and down-- brightness edged in the blue of Yngvild's holy light. The result is a squeal of panicked agony from the beast--- and gush of spilling blood.

"Observation," Thanix states casually, drawing his blade up from the ground. "Tentacles apparently do have shoulders. Note for future conflicts."

The gnome plops to the ground, the tenticle still on him, he struggles for a second pushing it off his body with a grunt, "Thanks." he says quietly. Perhaps not really happy to have had to been helpless like that in the first place.

As Thanix swings his greatsword and divests the otyugh of its tentacle, Kidda prepares to strike with her own sword - but then, the creature shudders, and drops in a wet, gory splutch to the ground. Reaching a hand out, she offers to aid the gnome in standing up out of the remains of the tentacles.

"One is pleased to serve," Thanix replies, pausing as his gaze sweeps back up the tunnel, back behind-- quick survey before he gives his weapon a swish. A small compartment opens in the 'forged's thigh; absently, he withdraws a grimy cloth from inside, rubbing it up and down the sword in a simple cleaning.

"F***** disgusting," Yngvild booms succinctly at the mess of carrion and otyugh around them. She casts her glance around to check if anyone is still near death, and then slings her hammer into a somewhat makeshift loop over one huge shoulder. With that she heads over towards the wounded, fighting in all this filth is not really healthy "Hmm" she says after she checks each in turn "If any of you feel in any way unwell in the next few days get to a temple" she advises sternly.

Samson sighs for a moment, wincing. "Ow." he says simply, looking around. "Alright....whats next in this menagerie." Ohhh, big word from the gnome.

Kidda nods emphatically, "been there, done that," she shudders at the mess on the floor. "And agreed. Who would /create/ such as these?" she wonders, looking at the two dead golems. "Flesh, bone, melded together into one - disgusting - form, and yet, I feel no evil here... Are you quite all right, Samson?" she asks the gnome, looking him over, and nodding to Yngvild.

Thanix continues cleaning his weapon, getting the worst of the grime and slime off the blade. "It is commonly hypothesized that arcanimatric spell casters do not have moral balance in their understanding of things. Perhaps that is the reason?" The last of the good swiped away, he drops the cloth aside-- and replaces the blade on his back with a *snickt* of reclasping clamps. "I suggest asking the Academy."
