  • Summary: An explosion rocks the city with several buildings on fire. A winged creature can be seen flying over the area of destruction before landing in one of the blasted buildings. The city has not responded to the chaos, yet. There will likely be a lot of casualties before any form of control measures are set on the affected area. Your character stands at the edge of the turmoil, deciding whether to follow the rest of the crowd running for safety... or going against the flow and heading to that which has caused the disturbance.

And so the day passes by with little to no incident happening within your part of the city, when all of a sudden a loud explosion can be heard. The earth trembled from the force of the explosion and a cloud of debris swiftly rushes through the streets where you are standing. For a moment, shock is what pervades among those who are nearby. It is quickly replaced by fear when people start to see and hear people running down the road, trying to get away from something.

You paged Lothos with 'A succubus is flying overhead before landing back in the cloud of dust... You are pretty sure of what you saw.'

Lothos has been doing something reciently, he has been working as a healer for the soldiers defense. Now, he can't cure diseases, but folks who cut themselves, sailors who stab each other in barfights, things like that, he can heal up pretty easily. He was on his way down to a dive bar, to clean up the wounded from a fight, the wounded who would rather not head up to the hospital. When he spots something in the sky, he blinks, "Damn....kinda sexy...but, definatly a bad sign." He looks around for a moment, seeing if he recognizes anyone from the guild who can help him.

Zalara is on her hoverbike and she is riding through the city when she sees something pass overhead. She can see the earth trembling and she moves her hoverbike up into the air so that she can fly over the heads of those running. She heads towards the thing that is flying over the debris and she sees it land inside. She finds a spot to park her bike and she grabs her death ray as she heads towards the building that is on fire.

When Lothos spots someone else headed that direction, he will follow them.

Rhar and Gurr are along the river. Running. They like to run. Well, Gurr likes to run. Rhar likes to help her friend run. Then there are loud unhappy noises. And unhappy people noises. Noises like people need help. So they go to help! "What noise? Why run?"

Regardless of why she was here in the first place, as the explosion shakes the street, a certain blue-robed redhead pauses for a moment from the surprise of it all... and then collects herself and heads determinedly -towards- the source of the noise and debris. Pausing briefly to check on a stumbling pedestrian, Margaret then quickly heads into the fray, as it were, apparently alongside several other hardened adventurer types. "What just happened? Did anyone see what caused that?" With a slight Myrrish burr, the petite woman casts about for... well, anyone who seems likely to answer.

"The whole district is on fire!" Cries out one of the people running away.

"I don't want to die!" weeps one as she limps out of the cloud debris, her appearance covered in ash dirt.

"Run! Run for your lives! A mad man is on the loose!" Yells out another person, stumbling a few times on the road.


Zalara will help those that she can along the way and try to direct them to safety as she continues to move closer and closer to where whoever or whatever landed in the building and caused it to become on fire. She reaches into her metal pack to take out a contraption of her's to let her breath easier. It will filter out the dust and smells to let her beath easier. There is the soft wheezing and wooshing as the small billows work to give her fresh air.

Gurr couldn't see what happened, but his flawless lupine logic directs him to where everyone is running FROM. Could be some there who can't run and need help. And there's a madman there. Rhar keeps asking, but also helps. "No die! Run more! Be safe!" When someone else about what happened, she answers, "Rhar not see yet! Go look!"

Lothos is jogging along, not much he can do about the fires, but that demon thing, now that he might be able to deal with. So he keeps looking for the source of the trouble, be it the demon lady, or this mad man folks are talking about.

Margaret has no air filters or gadgets; she does, however, have a symbol of Althea prominently displayed, and that usually gives people some reassurance that things are Being Taken Care Of. Gripping her walking staff a little tighter, she presses on towards the source ofthe disturbance. Along the way she notes fellow adventurers moving against the flow of panicked civilians, and sends them each a brief nod. "Go towards the Temple District," she instructs one woman clutching a hand to her chest as if it's hurt. "Others will come to help."


A stillness seem to have descended on the area where the supposed heroes have gathered. The dust cloud thins and an image of a man weeping and laughing at the same time can be seen stumbling through the now-deserted street. "Save me please." He weeps. And then laughs, "Life is never fun without death and destruction. Burn! Everyone, Burn!" And fire shoots out of his hands setting more buildings aflame, and he cast something on himself causing copies of himself to appear adjacent to him. "I can't... help me... Please! ... DIE EVERYONE!"

What does a priestess of Althea do when faced with a raving madman throwing magic all over? She prays. Hands clasped together, head slightly bowed, Margaret mumbles words of soothing and support. "Heaven's Queen, give us succor and strength to help this poor soul," she murmurs. And a soft glow manifests around her hands, spreading out before seeming to dissipate... but leaving everyone a little warmer, a little more confident.

Zalara frowns as she sees the man, 'Oh that's not good." She will activate her titan armor and the sides of her backpack open up. Metal bands come out from the backpack and wrap around her body before sliding down to cover her legs and arms and over her head like a helmet. She activates one of the bracelets she has on her eyes and her armor glows for a moment as a protective aura moves over her.

The clearly unhinged man continues to laugh as he sets fire to his surrounding, but tears stream down his face as he seems to be struggling with something. When the heroes are spotted, he stops laughing. A pleading look surfaces on his face which is quickly replaced by a curious look that looks eeriely frightening. He says a few words and then disappears from sight...

"Stop! No burn! No hurt!" Rhar demands of the burning man. "Then help!" Then she's surprised when the burning man vanishes. Left blinking. "Why leave? Where go?"

GAME: Note Flat-footed on Lothos ended. <OOC> Lothos says, "I'm going to cast glitterdust" GAME: Lothos casts Glitterdust. Lothos whispers a few words, and tosses some powder in the likely direction he thinks the mage would have moved, and sure enough, there he is. "Try not to kill him, I think he is betwictched by a succubus."

Taking a step back, eyes narrowed as her gaze flits from one glittering outline to the other, the petite Althean priestess extends a hand towards the jumble of half-invisible casters. "Let the shade be lifted from our eyes," says Margaret, almost conversationally. Abruptly, the extra images of the confused mage flicker out of existence. "Please," she adds. "We don't want to hurt you. Help us help you."

<OOC> Zalara says, "actually I'll cast shield on myself and try to talk." GAME: Zalara casts Shield. Caster Level: 10 DC: 17 <OOC> Benthus says, "Oh, yes, he is clearly possessed (Dominated). Sorry for not having stated that earlier."

Zalara sees the caster get glitterdusted and she looks over at the others, "All right we'll talk." She does make sure to touch another bracelet to put up an invisible defensive shield. "Yes we just want to help you Alernon. I know succubus are tempting, but they are empty and meaningless even if they are beautiful. It's better to go out with a real woman. Help us get rid of this demoness."

"I was lonely. I just wanted someone to talk to. I got carried away. I didn't want this. I am sorry. I am-- SO HAPPY TO KILL YOU ALL!" says the magically outlined person as he casts confusion on the group.

The glimmering image extends what appears to be its arms at the group and then mouths out a few arcane words. A sharp pinging sound explodes within the group's center, not causing any damage but affecting their minds. All except for Zalara is affected by the confusion spell..

Rhar is ready to give the now sort of seen and back to just one burning man a talking to! But then there's snakes! On her big round stick arm! So she hacks at them with her sharp stick. Too bad the snakes are only snakes she can see. Gurr just stands and drools. Because everything and everywhere suddenly looks and smells like tasty, tasty meat.

Lothos is usually fairly strong of will, just, well, this guy is damn powerful. The spell hits him and his mind goes blank, next thing he knows, he is punching himself in the face. "Blarg!" he manages to mutter.

Margaret frowns deeply, turning her head as if listening to someone talking near her. "Wha'? No, uncle's down t'pit," she says. Her accent seems to have deepened considerably, the way some will do when speaking to family or friends from home. "Dinnae be daft, ye numpty, 's not even... wha' was ah sayin'?" Shaking her head as if to clear it, the blue-clad priestess takes two staggering steps to the side, and then sits down heavily. Oof!

GAME: Zalara casts Dispel Magic. Caster Level: 10 DC: 19 GAME: Zalara rolls 1d20+10: (16)+10: 26 <OOC> Benthus says, "Alright, you managed to break the control on Alernon, Zalara." <OOC> Benthus says, "But... The confusion spell can not be ended by the caster..."

Zalara frowns a little bit, "Don't worry Alernon I have just the contraption for this." She makes a gun with her fingers and she shoots at the mage. A beam of light comes out of her finger and hit the mage ending the domination. She looks around, "Now where is that tricky vixen, come out and get your ass kicked."

Alernon falls to his hands and knees and he weeps bitterly over what he has done. And then he looks behind him and then around him. "We have to run! We have to get out of there quickly. Melrianel, the alluring is still around. She may control us." He struggles to get to his feet and run, but only manages to stumble a few steps forward.

Rhar chopped off the snakes. But now there's meat! Great minds think alike! And great mouths drool alike. With noises that not even Gurr can understand.

Lothos blinks, looking around. "Best to hide for a bit I think." He moves towards some sort of cover, hoping his mind doesn't betray him too fast.

GAME: Margaret rolls 1d100: (87): 87 <OOC> Benthus says, "Rhar has pretty good AC, you miss. Pose it."

"Argh! A demon!" Margaret's eyes open wide with sudden fury as her gaze falls on the equally confused Lucht, and with a couple of bounding steps, she closes with Rhar, swinging her staff with all her might! And misses so completely she turns herself around with the force of the swing.

The bell in the staff's crook tinkles sadly.

GAME: Zalara rolls perception: (9)+16: 25 <OOC> Benthus says, "You spot the succubus hovering over the roof of a burning building." <OOC> Benthus says, "About 60 feet from present position. It looks like it is studying you all." <OOC> Benthus says, "If you engage it... Understand that some of your companions are still having a negative condition active." <OOC> Zalara says, "I'll ask the mage if he can stop the confusion spell" GAME: Zalara rolls spellcraft: (5)+19: 24

Zalara looks over at the mage, "Hey Alernon, can you please help us out, do you have the spell dispel magic? Can you use it on her first." She points at Margaret as she was saying something about Althean earlier.

     It is now Crazy Man's turn! Rhar is next!

Alernon looks unsteady, as if his legs were made of jelly. Still, his mind is still sharp and he manages to understand what Zalara wants of him. He gathers himself and casts a spell on Margaret. The spell works and it removes the confusion spell that has affected the Althean priestess... "My sins are great. I hope that my actions redeem me for what I have done."

Oh no! The snakes are back! Rhar gurgles something through the drool as she hacks at her leg this time.

Lothos is still waiting out the confusion, he can feel his head clearing, but he knows the magic is still on him. He waits for it to wear off, hopefully it will soon.

     It is now Margaret's turn! Zalara is next!

GAME: Margaret casts Cure Moderate Wounds. Caster Level: 6 DC: 16 GAME: Margaret rolls 2d8+6: (6)+6: 12 GAME: You damaged Rhar for -12 points. 75 remaining.

Blinking as the fog lifts from her mind, the blue-clad priestess shakes her head, and takes a look around the field. "Oh... dear," she murmurs. She looks, well, shocked and appalled. "Don't... don't do that," she adds lamely, finding her way past Rhar's flailing to touch a hand to exposed skin on the Lucht's neck. "Shhh. Be still. Let the Mother soothe your hurts." And a soft, golden lights spreads across that exposed skin, leeching into flesh, easing pain and closing wounds.

     It is now Zalara's turn! Crazy Man is next!

<OOC> Zalara says, "Does the mage have any more dispel magic spells?" <OOC> Benthus says, "Yes." <OOC> Zalara says, "I'll ask him to dispel magic rhar" <OOC> Zalara says, "And keep watch on the sucubus."

Zalara smiles, "Welcome back to sanity." She looks over to the mage, "Can you un-confuse her now too?" She asks as she points to Rhar. She looks around, "Lothos?! Come out and be helped?" She keeps an eye out on the succubus too.

     It is now Crazy Man's turn! Rhar is next!

Alernon listens to further instructions from Zalara and focuses on casting another spell. He targets his spell at Rhar, as was directed. The spell renders the existing spell inert and removes the confused state over Rhar. "I've got one last dispel magic left in me." He begins to encant the spell to cast it on the last person still affected by the confusion spell (Lothos)...

Rhar blinks as the snakes vanish. And the meat. And everything is clear again. Gurr snorts and shakes his head. "Where fire man?" Then she finds him. "No fire? Is safe?"

Lothos sorta sits in his hiding spot, mumbling to himself about something.

<OOC> Margaret says, "Y'know what, I'm just going to cast Protection from Evil on Rhar. And hope she can actually get to the succubus. :P"

Apparently not content merely to heal Rhar's wounds, Margaret lets her hand remain on the Lucht's neck. "Goddess of Creation, watch over us," she intones. "Lend your protection to your servant, bolster her against evil." Calling Rhar Althea's servant may be a stretch, but somehow it seems to work, all the same. There's a gentle golden light that issues from the medallion clasped in the priestess' other hand, and it spreads like a cocoon around the diminutive feral woman.

<OOC> Zalara says, "Can I see Lothos or tell where he is so I can direct the wizard to him to dispel magic on him" <OOC> Benthus says, "You can hear Lothos blabbering incoherently." <OOC> Zalara says, "I'll go find him with the wizard to dispel magic him"


Zalara listens and looks around, "Where did Lothos go?" She hears the babbling and waves to the mage, "Come on this is the last one." She finds Lothos, "Please dispel the magic on him, then we can go kick some sucubus butt.

Alernon nods once again to the artificer and follows her to where he can find Lothos. He directs an open hand at the warlock and encants the words that would render the present magic inert. He does so successfully. "That's the last of my dispel magic. I hope you don't have anymore friends that need it." GAME: Benthus rolls 1d20+8: (19)+8: 27

Lothos nods when the confusion is dispelled. "Thanks, that was highly annoying. I suggest you go find more help, we can either delay or hopefully defeat the succubus in the meantime."

The group make their way to the location where they have spotted Melrianel, the alluring. The succubus does not hide her presence from the adventurers as they make their way towards her. She smiles as she continues to hover in the air. "Well, well, what do we have here. More toys to play with?"

Three handsome looking men appear on the roof tops on the side and back of the adventurers. They appear to be wearing a cape. But the cape moves to reveal batwings. Seeing Lothos, they draw out their scimitars and attack him in the air.

"It is good to draw pain once again." Says the incubus located on the eastern building.

"Aye, my brothers, it is indeed." Says the incubus located on the southern building.

"Suffer, and be content with your suffering." Says the incubus located on the western building.

With a distinctly undignified little shriek at the withering, burning touch, the Althean priestess scrambles to get away from the succubus, one hand grasping at the medallion around her neck. Fervently murmuring prayers to her goddess, Margaret gestures - and a healing wave of golden light washes over the area, knitting together wounds, easing hurts, and generally bringing the goodness of the Mother Goddess.

There's a hint of desperation in her voice, but it stays strong, and there's immediate response, yet again bathing the scene in holy light that strengthens the adventurers - and somehow causes the demons to appear more uncoordinated.

The tall and ruggedly handsome fiends attack Gurr's rider. The one that was tripped stands up, weathering a barrage of blows and cuts. It could not be stopped from doing so. The start swinging their scimitars at her. But her defenses were good. Only one manages to draw blood. The incubus licks the blood off of its sword.

They draw blood and Rhar, Rhar draw blood back! "Pack protect pack!" She swings her sharp stick. She smacks with her other big flat round stick. Even the carved wolf's head on her big flat shiny metal stick comes alive to snarl and bite at the one Rhar swings at. Gurr continues snapping his very big jaws at the one to the south. And tearing out hunks. And yanking it down to the ground.

Melrianel laughs as the heroes are slowly being whittled away by the incessant attacks. Although a bad omen has come upon her, she doesn't seem overly perturbed by it. It instead turns her attention to the priestess and suggests something to her. "I think you should pray to your godess to save you now. That is if she even listens." He grins. The grin faded when the spell she invoked is rendered powerless on the priestess. She sneers venomously.

The incubus that was tripped by the giant wolf gathers himself to his feet, but not before it gets a savage mauling and stabbing from Rhar and her mount. The other two incubus start slashing at her again, driven by the pleasure to inflict pain on others. One succeeds, but the rest miss...

Rhar and Gurr are surrounded, but not out. Sharp metal sticks are hitting! Then the wofl's head big roudn one. *BONG* Westsider is knocked back into a wall. While Gurr keeps gnawing on the southpaw, but doesn't frag him down this time.

Once more, the gentle golden light of healing spreads across the battlefield, warming the Althean priestess' allies yet oddly never quite touching their foes. Margaret opens her eyes and stares defiantly at the succubus, but doesn't deign to reply.

The incubus at the west roars and flies to attack Rhar. He misses. Incubus east attacks her and deal one blow. Incubus south was more successful. He manages to find a chink in her defenses and stabs at the weak spot. It relishes the blood and pain that it has inflicted on Rhar, but his victory is not complete as she resists his attempts of giving her more pain.

Ha! The pack hasn't even begun to tire. Just bleed. Quite a bit from the deep cuts. But it doesn't slow them down! Rhar finally hits with a hitieth enough stick in the same spot to bring it down. And it better not get up again. Or it'll get more sticks! Gurr manages to get ahold of southie's leg more. This time, his jaws snap closed all the way with a crunch. And bites the thing clear off.

The pack is not about to let them surround them, just to run away! When it moves, Gurr is close on its heels. It grabs a heel and pulls it down. So Rhar can smack it with a stick!

And the moment the succubus disappears with an ever so satisfying shriek of anger and frustration, Margaret spins on her heel and hustles over to poor, bleeding Rhar, and touches the Lucht with a murmured word of healing; instantly, the diminutive feral woman looks much better. "Althea be praised," says the priestess, relieved.

Lothos turns towards one of the incubus, and raises his rod, trying to fire off another jolt of electricity. Once more, nothing happens. He shakes the rod a few times, "Ok, now I am highly annoyed, I think this is defective!!"

The last Incubus looks distraught. It thought that it would no longer see Gurr and its rider. But it gets mauled and stabbed by the duo just as it was about to teleport out of the area. It get's hit hard and it is tripped. It tries to crawl away on its hands and knees, piteously whimpering for them to not get any closer. But it's pleas fall on deaf ears as the wolf and halfling advance on their prey...

Rhar and Gurr are not about to let enemies get away. Not mean ones like that! Stinky winged bat people! Shouldn't be here. So there's more sticks swining and teeth gnashing. "You hurt pack! No more hurt pack!"

Margaret is looking a little taken aback at the degree of violence displayed -- but it IS a demon. Even the gentle Mother Goddess would probably not show it any mercy in sending it packing back where it came from. So she simply follows the Lucht and wolf, spreading more of that gentle golden healing glow.

The incubus screams in pain as it gets stabbed, slashed, smashed, clawed and bitten. After the beating that would make even a veteran fighter cringe, the incubus turns around spent and really out of fire. It begs Rhar and Gurr to make a slave of it in return that it would not be killed. It begs with tears forming at the corners of its eyes.
