It's a beautiful day in Alexandria and you're off to make that sweet gold! The Adventurer's Guild is always home to brave quests that require you to stride straight into danger against impossible odds, to be heroic heroes of heroing who fight demons, slay monsters, and...

.... pick... flowers?

Right now, that is in fact what you're doing, collecting flowers for the Provessive Arcanists Guild. You were given booklets, colored, to show the flowers required and, well... wizards do need thei rreagents.

It pays.

That's why you're in the woods outside of town at the moment.

Ahhhhh, feel that breeze! Jozi seems to be enjoying herself so far, despite her militant trappings, as she gathers some of the colorful plants. Her introduction as the group gathered for the job was warm, if folksy, with a 'Howdy' and a tendency to call folk 'sugar'. She takes a look around on the sly now and then between samples, just to keep aware of any potential misadventure.

Burai peers at his booklet. Flowers. He's seen them, in certain fields during certain seasons. He's seen the cultivated strains during some of his infrequent forays through the city's markets and gardens. But he never realized the wild versions could be just as sought after. "Hello," he returns.

Linwen sighs as she stands out here with all the others. She was told by people in the temple that the some wizards needed help and to go to the Adventurer's guild to inquire about helping. She stands there in her heavy banded armor with weapons on her hips and boots and... the book of flowers. This was not her idea of adventure or helping wizards. "Ummmm... well. I guess it could be worse," she says to no one in particular. "Greetings friends. I'm called Linwen... a pleasure to be.. picking flowers.. with you?" she says unsure.

As Bannon Vayne travels along through the forest, looking through the guide book provided by the super "progressive" arcanist from the Progressive Arcanists society, there seems to be a study stream of talking coming from the mouth of the airman, "Take an easy job this time around, I says. Take a job that going to be so risky, I says. Take a job that isn't going to be press your luck, I says..." He trails off with a grunt, "I'm an idiot, I says." As the day continues, it becomes progressively apparent that outdoors in wooded areas and Bannon do not neccesarily see eye to eye, as he seems to get sniffly ever few minutes.

Lysos greeted everyone, of course, introducing herself to Jozi, exchanging bright 'good to see you again's with the others, and by now she's gotten a good start on weaving a flower necklace out of flowers that don' thappen to be on the list.

"You says it, sugar!" Jozi chuckles back over to the sniffly fellow, "Don't worry, I don't reckon we'll be out here too terribly much longer." She takes a fine cloth bundle from a belt pouch and spends some tim fiddling with it before she pours some water over it from her canteen. She smiles back to the other introductions, "Nice ta meetcha!" then proceeds over to Bannon, "Here, sugar, tie this over your face with this little knot here under your chin, breathe slow an see if that helps ya any."'

Bina comes trotting up, late once again, with bird on shoulder. She waves as she approaches on legs that are /very/ speedy from someone trotting in a dress. "Yooo whoooo! Hello hello hello everyone!" In her other hand is one of the books. Looks like she too is here to collect flowers. Beaming a smile she nods to each person in turn. "Good to see you all again."

Burai closes his booklet, rolls it up and then finally tucks it through his belt. He opens and closes his hands and then reaches over his shoulder. Grasping the hilt of his falchion he gives it a slight twist to free it from the clips holding it and then keeps it in hand at his side. "I hear something," he notes. "Something large."

Bannon shakes his head to Jozi, "It's alright. I'm just getting used to this climate." He looks towards Sabina, his eyebrow raising before he asks, "Did you bring a guide book to pick flowers?" He then stops suddenly, looking off towards the forest and blinking once, "Did anyone...?" He turns to look towards Burai and nods his head, "Uh huh."

Linwen never had her's out to begin with. She has been more of a self appointed guard of the troop, watching the other gather while keeping an eye out around the area after she introduced herself. The bunch was not much for talking so she decide less talking, more guarding. She too hears the cracking nearby with her elvish ears and turns to face the same direction as Burai, unslinging her shield and equipping it on her left arm then cross drawing her elvish longblade with her right. "I heard it too..." she says as she stands next to Burai.

"Sabina!" Lysos greets the luckbringer. "Now we're definitely going to find everything we need," she says, beginning to put the flower necklace around her neck... but pauses as everyone starts to put themselves on guard. "What?" she asks, looking from face to face, then at the woods around them. "What is it?"

Bina watches as everyone gets guarded looks and turns their attention away from her and tsks softly. "I see I'm just in time for something bad to happen. How lucky ..for me? Er.. you? US.. yes us.." She sighs, coming to a stop near Lysos.

Jozi shrugs and gives an offhand, "Alright, sugar, if that's how ya wanna handle." she replies with a little knowing smile, though the rapid approach of, "Sabby, hey!" gets her attention, right up until half the crew's gettin' ready for action. With an almost threatrical upward stroke of her hand, she slaps the warhammer up out of the frogs of her belt and snatches the haft as her hand comes back down and looks around, "Just the one?" she asks on word that whatever it is, it's 'large'.

Then there's more crunching sounds. Now it's audible to everyone. It's not just one something, it's several.

Like an oncoming...

...STAMPEDE!

Bursting through the trees is a horde of... a horde of ...

...goats?!

Oh no.

"Goats. Why did it have to be goats?" Lysos complains in a half-whisper, then does the sensible thing. "Defendarius!" she shouts, summoning her magical protective shield... and then she huddles.

Linwen had goats back home. Not this many but she's seen them run in a panic before and a panicing goat still likes to take the path of least resistence. She she lunges forward, down on to one knee and slams her should's bottom pointed tip into the ground and hunkers down behind the shield. The goats should hopefully just go around her or at the very worst leap over her.

As the goats break through the treeline and barrel towards him and the others, Bannon's eyebrows raise. He simply shouts, "Everyone move!" He's already making a break for it, scrambling nimbly out of the way of the bashing bovines.

Bina blinks behind her mask and makes a small sound of surprise. She moves closer to Lysos and trys to get her to follow with her as she moves to be hind one of the nearby trees. "This isn't good! Not if we're looking for flowers!" Understatement of course.

Jozi's eyes widen some as the goat's emerges from the underbrush in a, "Stampede!" She turns and sprints, "Behind something!" she advises as she makes for a fair sized tree to duck behind.

Burai has other ideas. He raises his free hand and gestures, while also murmuring in the super secretive language of the druid, and vines and grass begin to grow and twist ahead of him.

Edinaz appears, running hell for leather, right behind the goats. He's trying -- trying -- to avoid the terrain, and keep his footing, but mostly? Mostly he's trying to catch up to the ungulates. "Just one of you!" His sides heave, "So good..." He leaps over a rock, trying to make up ground, "...in curry sauce."

GAME: Edinaz rolls ref: (19)+5: 24

The goats are confused by the writhing plants! There's good news, an immediate number of them are stopped.

The bad news is that the entangle just produced a bunch of goat food, so the ones that aren't entangled are now helping those that are. OM NOM NOM.

Other goats of the swarm are now busily snuffling around for flowers to eat.

Edinaz starts dodging vines, as well as rocks and branches. As the goats slow, he does too, gathering himself for a tackle even as the vines start to get a purchase on him...

Lysos slowly raises her head, first opening one eye, and then the other. "I'm okay?" She quickly checks herself over. "I'm okay!" Then she climbs fully to her feet, noticing Edinaz now. And something about some recent yelling clicks in her mind and she narrows her eyes, looking at him suspiciously, pointing at him.

As the goats settle in to start eating, Bannon breaks cover as and begins to survey the damage. He shakes his head, a sour expression on his face, "Well, now what?" He takes a deep breath, turning his head to the side and sneezing forcefully. He looks back towards the others, his eyebrows knitted together.

Linwen stands up and relaxes a little bit. "Well... that's not something you see every day."

GAME: Jozi rolls profession/farmer: (5)+6: 11
Bina look around the tree she used as cover and peers at /all/ the goats. "Wow. Ok. So.. It's a herd? Is there a leader goat that leads them around? Find that one and move it along somwhere else?"

Hrm. Jozi looks around and sighs, "Sorry, sugar, I doubt it's gonna be that easy. Goats were always stubborn, especially in groups." she answers Sabi, "These don't look like the fainters, though, so... mebbe we can send'm running with a loud noise? We should do something fast, before they eat all our work."

Leader goat? Burai looks surprised. Then he peers at the goats. It could be... Edinaz launches himself out, and wraps up a goat in a tackle, rolling with it. "Hah!" Or course, there are other problems, like all of the other goats... ...and the grabby vines.

GAME: Edinaz rolls ref: (1)+5: 6 (EPIC FAIL)

Edinaz doesn't hold on long, as the vines wraps around his limbs. He's grabbed, and his arms pried apart, and he watches, agonizingly, as his meal-apparent goes scampering free. "But..." He sags back, as his forehead is grabbed by another vine. "Fuck."

Linwen sighs. "Can we not spoke the goats sir?" she says to Edinaz and then, "Why are there so many damn goats!?"

There doesn't appear to be a 'leader goat'. Except Edinaz, since he's kind of a goat himself, right?

In any event, they're spreading out now to eat foliage, leaves, flowers, vines... especially vines. That's definiutely bought you some time. Leading them away might be possible, but they're definitely making a wreck of the lovely glade you're in.

As he seems to be getting a better handle on things, Bannon is walking towards Edinaz, looking down towards the man with a dour expression, "We're here on an assignment from the Guild of Adventurers. If this job paid any better, you'd have additional holes to scream through while you're chasing other goats." He then growls, "Now get up and help us get these goats out of here so we can finish our job."

Edinaz growls at Bannon. "You're brave when you're talking to somebody tied up in vines. If you release your spell, I'm on contract as well. I need to get those goats back to their farmer." It's hard to be angry when you're spreadeagled on the ground, so... the words just kinda hang there.

Bannon narrows his eyes, his hand reaching down to the rapier at his side. He draws it smoothly and with several quick and precise cuts, the vines holding Edinaz are shorn away, "You thought the best way to get these goats back to that farmer was to chase them through the forest? I was having a nice, if allergenic day, until you showed up. Get moving, you grog faced stench on legs, and get your contract out of the way of our contract as quick as you can." Bannon lifts the rapier, returning it to the scabbard before he calls out, "Are they leaving anything for us?"

Sabina hurries from her spot to go and see about collecting what she can from munching mouths of goats. Even going so far as to pull any she sees from greedy goat lips. "Well.. I guess? Some." She answers Bannon.

Edinaz picks himself up out of the vines, disinclined to be greatful. "The goats liked running, and so did I. You put your flowers somewhere strange." He looks down at Bannon. "Or, I chase the goats back into the flowers, if you keep talking. So, maybe stop, and we'll both get paid."

Lysos brushes off her skirts and sighs.. to patched and stained as they are, it's not like they are any worse for wear due to this. "Hey!" she yells at one goat as it leans forward to much on one of the flowers she /knows/ she's seen in the guide book. She quickly shoves at it to get it out of the way while she rips a handful, not too delicately, from the ground and stuffs them into her sack.

Jozi tsks, "Now, now, sugar, we just run afoul of each other is all." as the offers to alter the prone fellow's orifice count are made, "Let's just be all civil-like an we can all get out of each others' hair." She ventures over toward where the herd is inching toward one of their accumulated piles and she starts making little 'whoops' and claps of her hands to try and discourage the ornery critters along in another direction. She's getting some of them moving anyway.

Predators.

There's a snuffling sound that some of you hear, enough to draw the attention of the oth4ers to it. It's mostly Jozi, if we're honest.

...but it's really hard to miss the owlbears when they arrive. Of /course/ it's owlbears. It's the only way things could get worse.

Let justice be done!"

But of course it's hard to get a read on the Luckbringer with that mask of hers. So she looks back at the giant monstrosities and those surrounding them and hacking and poking at them.... and sighs. Bannon is struck three times, once by two savage paws and then a beak bite to his shoulder that leaves him staggered in far too much pain to act reasoanbly.

It's pretty incapacitating, but he's not left unconscious.

     Round Three - Init 7.
It is now Jozi's turn! Sabina is next!

Bannon As he disengaged with the first owlbear that attacked the goats, Bannon nods his Sabina, offering a quick, "Thank you" before turning towards the other owlbear. He proceeds towards the creature quickly, his last step descending into a lunge that pierces the side of the creature right where its liver probably should be.

He's then mauled...

The lunge from the off side catches Jozi's eye as she's recovering from her previous swing, eyes widening in alarm, but she can't do anything for him if the creature is still able to attack, and so she focuses on killing it, first. To that end, she rears back and ends up burying the hammer with a wet crunch in the sweet spot between both eyes and the beak. She doesn't realize she's struck gold, and tries to bring her claws around again, but the Owlbear's body falls to the side and her swing, encountering no resistance compromises the somewhat shakey footing amidst the half-eaten vines and she ends up falling atop of the beast.

So, problems.

The arrival of the owlbears sent the goats screaming and running off in all directions. Others are coming back to monch on food now that they're dealt with. You have flowers, but many of them have been trampled, by combat, owlbears, and goats.

...and you now have to get the goats AND the floewrs back to their rightful owhners and oh god it's a pain in the ass and it takes all day and you're all tired and... and ... and...

... you at least get a bonus.
