Meeting an Arbiter

SUMMARY: Rona begins the process of surveilling the suspected Charneth agents' hideout in Sage Orum's Plaza. She is joined by Kae, Verna, and Morgan. Discussion mostly centers around Verna's Outsider follower.

Yelrona storms out of the Llyranesi Embassy, muttering to herself angrily. Not that she's actually upset, but a fight with her mother back in the Mythwood is one of her excuses for spending time in the Plaza.

"Weeeeeeeee!" Is heard, coming out of the Arcanist society, Or is that Artificer's hall... the same sound is heard again now going from one to the other... However oddly enough it's not on ground level? That or the person making those noises isn't visible? Who knows... Though it becomes quite obvious what level they are on, when someone from the Arcanist society is waving a fist and papers are drifting down from the upper stories... Then a figure, on what looks like an artificed up surf board, only well smaller, can be seen zooming back and forth between the two buildings... Though figure 8's around them might be more accurate.

Yelrona looks around for the source of the sound, finally spotting it in the air, zooming between the two buildings. She laughs, despite herself, and leans back against a nearby bench to watch more comfortably.

Kae well, she's zooming around again but coming to a slow stop near the Arcanist building as now there's several arcanists shaking their fists at her.. "Whaaat? Yer not supposed to like leave important research out on a balcony!

Verna has arrived.

Yelrona is unsure what the problem seems to be, though her experience in general is that the artificers and arcanists in the plaza have a pretty active rivalry going on and this seems to be part of it.

Verna emerges from the library, a tome (not from said library) hovering before her to allow perusal en route. Above and behind her the left shoulder of her cloak, another object floats: a copper spheroid whose equatorial amber gem is oriented upon the tome as well, as if it were also browsing the contents.

Kae blinks as more fist shaking ensues and she fist shakes with both fists... Okie so she's flailing her arms with fists all balled up but who's counting!!!

Yelrona stares at Verna the floating spheroid with an air of faint recognition, and gets back on her feet to approach the Mourner, keeping her target building in sight. "So... sorry to interrupt," she says, "but I've been curious for a while. What IS that thing?"

Verna slows her travel and her hood lifts and pans towards the query. Almost simultaneously, the spheroid similarly rotates to direct its gem towards the speaker. "This is Arbiter GH-Zero-Five-Seven," she offers introduction with a gesture of gloved hand to the spheroid in question, "a servitor of the Indomitables. As Celestials are agents of good and Infernals aspects of Evil, Indomitables are personifications of order and law."

Kae is continuing to flail limbs as she argues with the Arcanist, this being more apparent as food objects now begin to fly at her, and promptly land on the streets below... Finally Kae turns her board around and flies down to street level, now kind of out of view and reach of the flying fruit...

Yelrona nods. "Well, that explains the aura of Law it radiates. So... a being, not a device?" She looks the Arbiter over carefully. "Nice to meet you. I --"

She is interrupted by a canteloupe that hits the ground a few feet away and spatters her, and looks up at Kae. "WILL YOU PEOPLE STOP THAT?!?"

Morgan has arrived.

"It is a self-aware, sentient construct, thus both," Verna explains. Any response from the Arbiter is witheld as it side-swoops to avoid melon projectiles. Verna's hood lifts towards the Artificer's Hall.

Verna says "That is hardly appropriate, much less professional behavior." <kulthian>

Kae blinks and motions to the Arcanist throwing the fruit "I'm not throwing fruit I'm dodging fruit!" She calls out... Arms flailing in the air... Yes she understood Verna just fine...

Yelrona sighs and shakes her head. "Anyway. Nice to meet you, Arbiter. We... don't get many Arbiters around these parts. And at these prices, I'm sure you can see why."

Amaya has arrived.

Amaya goes West <W>.

Amaya has left.

Morgan comes out of the arcanist society building a bit tired looking. She takes a seat under some shade from the building to watch whats going on here.

"Greetings," Arbiter GH-057 now vocalizes to Yelrona. Verna watches the skies a moment longer before her hood opening returns to the conversation at hand. "They are uncommon, indeed. I encountered Arbiter GH-057 purely by chance, and it was further fortune that I unintentionally reactivated it."

"Well, _that_ sounds like a story!" Rona says to Verna. "How did you encounter it?"

Morgan gets a apple from her bag and cuts the peel with a knife slowly.

Having given up on dodging fruit and veggies, Kae has now adapted to this! She has a large fine net and she's catching flying fruits and veggies and well, stocking up! Specially when she realizes it's not rotted fruit and veggies!

"I discovered it in the possession of a collector who was unaware of it's true nature," Verna explains. "He had acquired it from another some years past. The chain of custody was similar, as far as I was able to determine. Incactive, the Arbiter was an intriguing piece of well-crafted statuary, and little more, to its possessors."

Yelrona nods, fascinated. "And you... accidentally woke it up? Is it like a Golem, then?"

Morgan looks up as the word Golem is said and she looks away when she sees its Verna.

"I realized that it was more than a decoration and began to investigate," Verna explains. "In the course of my examination, I re-activated it from its dormant state. It is a creature of artifice more than more traditional magic, but golem would be a vernacular correlation, yes."

"It is not a private conversation," Verna adds, in Morgan's direction. "You are free to participate, if you are inclined."

Morgan nods "Yes, I know I could but we met before and you explaned your friend to me. I do get a bit weary when the word Golem is said."

Yelrona nods. "Well, Golems like the War Golems," Rona clarifies. "Like at the Artificer's Hall," she adds, pointing, "and Old Clunk's. I was talking to a War Golem professor there the other day, about the history of his people... fascinating stuff. So is Arbiter a descendent of the Age of Kulthus, then?"

Verna's hood traverses left and right in a reciprocating motion. "No. The Arbiters, or their creators at the least, are from time immemorial. They existed long before our respective races, much less any one society." Her hand gestures to the Arbiter, "I am uncertain of its true age, but know that it was dormant for several centuries, at a minimum." Verna's attention shifts to Morgan once more. "You have nothing to fear from it, unless you are an agent of chaos. Even then, it is a scout, and explorer, not a warrior."

Morgan shrugs "Na its to much work to be evil I think."

Yelrona shrugs. "Well, I've been accused of being an agent of chaos," Rona replies. "Which I suppose all Tarienites are. Should I be concerned?"

"I do not believe so," Verna assures, hood panning to the arbiter. "It has instructions to observe, record, and minimize interaction. That has proven sufficient to avoid any repeat of initial ...incidents."

Morgan nods "So its learning, but the question is what for."

Yelrona nods. "And... it follows you... because you activated it?"

Verna explains, "I was its first contact of this current age, yes. I have aided it in the acclimation process, and it continues to observe and record for that purpose."

Morgan nods "So it is recording every thing it sees but for what purpose. It might want to return to what ever made it to give what it knows to the source."

Yelrona thinks about that. "I am all right with that, I suppose. But it cuts both ways... does the Arbiter --" she interrupts herself and addresses her question directly to the construct: "do you have records of earlier ages, then?"

Morgan Ronas question made the aspring lore master wince as that is a question she should ask.

The spheroid swivels to point its gem at Verna, who gestures permissively with a hand. It rotates back and responds, "No data recorded during period of dormancy. Prior data remains damaged, fragmented. Recovery procedures in progress."

Yelrona nods. "That must be frustrating. Do you know what damaged you?"

Morgan ears perks up "I do hope its trying to recall someting." she gets a book out with a quil to record what it is about to say. "Rona dont ask it to many questions at once."

"Data missing," is the response. Verna interjects, "I have yet to determine anything of great detail regarding its ancient past, unfortunately. Whatever rendered it inert apears to have significantly damaged its memory. It is also possible that they erase their data after reporting it or at regular intervals, and the incident closely coincided with that schedule."

Morgan pouts "can it recall when you turned it on?"

Yelrona nods, intrigued.

"Yes," Verna confirms. "From what I have observed, it's ability to record new memories is not impaired."

Morgan hmms "Well if you ever want to find where the source where your buddy would go to report its reports let me know I would so love to explore areas like that."

Yelrona thinks about it. "I suppose if it's a servitor of the Indomitables, and an Outsider, it's probably at home in the Planes of Law."

Verna gestures a hand to Yelrona. "She speaks wisely. It is a being of Law, and its creators would reside in an appropriate plane. One quite remote, I expect, given that few documented instances of contact exist, insofar as I can locate."

Morgan shrugs "Should not be a problem."with Morgan it would be a big problem.

"Does it warn you of threats?" Rona asks, curiously.

"It can, and has, if in the vicinity," Verna explains. "While I do attempt to aid in its acclimation to this time and place, its is not bound to my location."

Morgan smirk "I find if you give treats to my fellow wizards fimlrs things they like they will tell me all sorts of things around here."

Yelrona nods. "Does it travel to observe, or view remotely?"

Verna says, "It observes with senses no different than ours, and so it must be in the vicinity."

Morgan stands up and says "Well I better go back to my belt, its close to being done."

Yelrona seems disappointed. "Ah well. Can't have everything, I suppose."
