  • Title: Mean and Green, part 6
  • Emitter: Williwaw
  • Characters: Ashes, Asmli, Delilah, Donna, Strike, Victor
  • Place: The Alexandrian Sewers
  • Time: Monday, September 07, 2020, 7:38 PM
  • Summary: The battle of the bowl continues! The spider goblins are proving increasingly difficulty, but the party fights on. The opponents are proving to be quite tough, and blows and spells simply bounce off them. Meanwhile, their baleful glares make it hard for our heroes to fight. The sole survivor of the other adventuring party is trying to make her way to safety. Strike, Victor, Asmli and Donna beat them physically while Delilah uses her spells, and when they start to run out, a dragonspitter. Finally she throws a fireball high in the air. The sewers don't explode! All enemies are either killed or flushed, with one them them turning into a disturbing, multi-tailed worm as it goes down with the flow. The party regroups, to assess the situation.

The Battle of the Bowl, Part Two.

It's days like this that help one appreciate the simple things in life. Fresh air. Good friends. A sense of smell that isn't constantly under siege. Oh, and a lack of demons trying to kill you. The simple things. Speaking of demons trying to kill you...

The spider goblin creature that Delilah cunningly stripped from the wall and flushed away has somewhow managed to claw its way back up through the outflowing pipe and cling to its inner edge, fixing Donna with a somewhat baleful and piercing gaze from its eyeless face. Its counterpart is doing likewise to Asmli, clinging to the wall above the outer walkway ringing this giant toilet bowl of a sewage collection nexus. Their minions are partially scattered.. two are engaged with Donna on the lower walk, while three more are on the upper paths. Two of them are fighting with Strike and Asmli, while the third hovers near the edge of the western tunnel, seeming as though it is waiting for something. Another lays dead at Asmli's feet, while the last had chased down the tunnel after the fleeing elf and human whom had taken your arrival as a good moment to run away. Run away and leave their companions on the lower paths for dead, apparently. More than likely they assumed the two were dead, for it it weren't for Ashes' actions both surely would be... instead, though one remains unmoving, the other has managed to crawl away from Donna and her antagonists, quaffing what appears to have been a healing potion in the process.

The party emerged from the southern tunnel on the upper walk. Donna leapt down to the lower walk to fight the demons down there. Asmli and Strike have advanced partway along the upper walk, clockwise towards the western tunnel, and are fighting sidebyside against the demons there that met them halfway. Ashes, Victor and Delilah are at various spots behind Strike and Asmli. Asmli and Donna have been afflicted with Evil Eyes.

When your opponent is an extremely pissed-off and slightly indistinct brawler, one might assume that the smart play is to avoid actions that piss her off further. One of the demons, however, having recently crawled out of the poop soup, seems to have decided to make a different gamble; to take direct action on the pissed-off brawler's ability to connect with a swing.

Seems that was the wrong gamble, for now Donna is pissed off enough to bring *magic* into the equation.

Donna's fiery eyes flare brightly, a series of runes stamping themselves into existence around the vambrace of their gauntlet. Scooting back half a pace, the dark twin wheels around, loosing an echoing roar of "GET DOWN HERE!!" as she swings her runed arm... and the fist of her gauntlet detaches, sweeping toward the demon, trailing chains of light. The glove mimics the brawler's movements, opening and closing just in time to latch around the demon's ankle.

With a sharp tug, Donna tears the demon away from the wall and back into the awfulness, turning to stare down the lesser demons as her gloove reels back into place. "Unno who you are lady," she says over her shoulder to the potion-drinking adventurer, "but you ain't in no shape for a scrap. Get behind me an' stay there, I'll cover you."

Even as the diminutive fiend within the collection bowl is ripped from his perch and once more dropped into the mess and flushed down the drain, the other demons press on. One strikes a rather telling blow upon the dwarf warrior.. one might think in retribution for its fallen comrade, though with their scarf wrapped faces it is hard to tell. On the lower walk, another manages likewise score a hit upon the brawler as her attention turns away from it if ever so briefly. And as one, the two unable to reach their foes split their maws open wide once again to shriek and send a wave of negative energy shooting forth most of you. Then the one on the top, quickly closing its maw, turns and runs off into the tunnel to join the chase for the fleeing adventurers.

Victor spreads his wings and leaps off of the railing. He drops and banks to flies parallel and just under the upper walk, chanting in Eldritch all the while. When he passes over the demons fighting Donna and drops down hehind them the chant is completed and he raises both hands, clawed fingers splayed with tips of his thumbs touching one another. Sheets of flame wash over the 'uglies'...but leave them more or less unharmed.

The flames wash over them, and by the smell their clothes and/or armour they're wearing definitely gets singed, but the creatures themselves don't seem very affected by it.

On the upper path, the way is blocked by the two facing Strike and Asmli. Roughly a section, wall to edge, that is four squares occupied by characters. On the lower path, it's only five feet across.. but occupied by Donna, Foot, Foot, Victor in that order. It's not possible to get within reach without something like tumbling rolls. The lone adventurer is out off immediate danger, barring ranged attacks. Victor is between her and the bads on the lower level, and the upper ones are engaged in combat with Strike and Asmli.

With battle raging in the... poop bowl, Delilah decides there is only one thing to do. Namely, cast another spell. I mean really, what else is a sorceress to do? What does one expect? The runes are drawn, and it all coalesces into a brilliant ray of blue flame, that sizzles through the air to strike the dementedly warbling target. And set it on fire. And, that would seem to be that. "That's right, burn!" crows the sorceress. "And stop doing everyone's head in! If you jump in the bowl maybe you'll stop being on fire!!"

Brought back from Death's Door, and thanks to Ashes and her potion able to struggle to her feet.. and not look like she's about to fall right back over... the leather clad human looks to Donna at the bloodrager's call.. but she shakes her head firmly, turning about to scramble up the ladder leading to the western tunnel.

Blood sprays freely, and Asmli scowls, then grunts and swears at the deep gash that got through his armor. He tries to return the favor, shifting his grip to bring the entire force of the axe to bear on the thing, but his aim is wide, the axe slamming into the stone at his feet with a ringing noise instead.

The grey skinned creature on the wall behind the fight on the upper walk spits and snarls as its counterpart goes flushing down again, then splits its face into a huge grin as it garbles something out.. the two demons on the lower walkway seem to.. enrage. It tries to do the same to one of the ones fighting Asmli and Strike, but either the demon isn't paying attention or the goblin spider's fel magic failed to do what it was supposed to do.

After taking more than a desirable amount of hits in retaliation for dunking one of the demons in the drink, Donna looses a low, growling sound. Her runes surge with light as she drops into a low, solid stance, and lunges forward, shoulder-first and supported by her opposite hand. Where her punches seem to have made little progress, this tactic -- as evidenced by the panicked flailing the demon counts as a return strike -- enjoys unparallelled success.

Indeed, the tackle hits Donna's opponent solidly enough, that the demon is bodily thrown several feet away... and well over the railing.

Splash.

The battle up top continues to rage, with one of the demons unable to follow its previous good fortune with another successful hit.. its sword being easily turned aside by Asmli's arms and armour. The one facing strike fares a little better with a single stab getting past her defences. Down below, while one demon turns to swing its weapon with enraged might upon the gargoyle.. the other flails and slides and glubs and... manages, somewhow, to catch itself right at the opening to the outflow pipe, arms and legs splayed to keep the flow from pushing it all the way in.

Strike founds the hardiness of these creatures somewhat distressing. She briefly considers taking up the felled creatures blade to kill the live one, but, given the awkwardness of such a long blade, she opts instead to try and pummel him down. Blows to sternum, to bell, to temple land solidly, though fail to stun the creature, though hook toward the lock of his jaw comes up short.

Victor watches briefly as a demon is knocked off of the walkway. He takes a step towards the remaining one and slashes with each clawed hand. An instant later he lowers his head and slashes with the his gargoyle horns, and then bites savagely with fangs. The frenzy of blows finishes this demon and steps back into his original place. He makes a few coughing noises as he tries to clear his mouth.

Three FOOTs are still up. Two uptop, and one is clinging to the drain opening. One spider goblin up on the walls.

Ash is happy the demons are going for a swim, whatever makes them stop the horrible howling song. She would like to get down to the lower level, but doesn't see a good way to do so. Also, the other adventurer seems to be saving herself. Ash will do her best. In the meantime, she focuses on her holy symbol and her nearby companions, Strike and Asmli, and does her best to send Vardama's energy her way, "Feiu of the Tears, help us."

Unfortunately, being a sorceress is not some kind of infinite proposition. Delilah draws her pistol with a flourish, pulls back the hammer, and holds it at arms length as she takes aim; a loud shot rings out and a bullet manages to hit... the brick right beside the spider demon on the wall. It's a very near miss; it might even have almost hit the skin.

Almost.

We'll call it a warning shot.

Hesitating on the brink of fleeing.. the as yet unintroduced woman stops herself from chasing after her 'friends'. After all, there's a pair of demons between her and them. She does look north, then grits her teeth and turns around. Steps slow at first, then picking up speed, by the time she reaches the upper walkway fight she's almost throwing herself at one of Strike and Asmli's opponents, burying her dagger in its back with both hands.

There are no foot on the walkway, Donna. One Foot trying desperately not to get flushed, one more up top.

Frustrated and granted renewed strength by the healing flowing from somewhere he can't see, Asmli tries the same strike again, and this time, lays the axe blade clean into the creature, slicing it open from stem to stern in a spray of ... something. It drops lifeless to the pavement, and he takes the time to grin fiercely at the stranger on its other side.

The creature on the walls is not looking pleased, though as alien as it is that isn't as easy to tell as one might thing. It turns its attention on the gargoyle creature down below, fixing it with its evil, eyeless gaze in an attempt to unnerve Victor. Then it opens its mouth and starts letting out a sound that is a cross between a shrill laugh and a staccato drum.

Lacking enemies to fight down below, and ignored by the adventurer she'd helped to protect, Donna is in a *perfect* mood to bring the pain to the last living demon on the walkway. Scrambling up the ladder like she'd rather beat the upper walkway into position, one of her palms begins to glow a sickly green as she stampedes up behind the ragged creature, and slams her hand against its back.

The resulting surge of energy sizzles away clothing, flesh, and magical protection, and eats deeply into the creature.

As things start to get really bad, really fast for the demon side, the last fighting Foot demon looks around.. then proves its not unthinking. Perhaps not intelligent, but it seems to have some sense of self-preservation.. so it turns to the side.. and jumps. Several blows score worthy hits upon it before it falls to the lower platform, and then keeps on slipping and rolling to carry on into the bowl of city waste.

As it falls into the sewage, the body actually seems to burst... a long, wrong seeming worm wriggling out from what used to be the neck and chest of the body, discarding said body like the waste the creature is now swimming in.

The other Foot that remains unslain also takes a look at the situation.. and simply lets go and disappears down the drainage hole.

With the creature trying to un-ass it's situation, and the subsequent beating it ate from all the concerned parties, Strike is already moving toward the railing, crossing her arms to draw two fans of shuriken. Briefly given pause by the sudden... metamorphosis, she nonetheless brings up the blades between her fingers and makes it rain... to depressingly little better effect. "Disappointing." she notes.

Ash looks over the railing, staring at the worm. Glaring, actually. She'd like to know what that was, or to know that it's going to have a bad time. Yes, little worm, get eaten by a giant sewer aligator, or otherwise suffer a bad day. Her eyes bore into it.

So there's a giant... worm. Up top. Well, that's disgusting, and it's really inconvenient to have to fight it up there. Delilah tucks her gun back in the holster and looks upwards, contemplating this new threat. She doesn't think for long. Even Donna doesn't really get advance warning of what's coming next; this is definitely a new spell she's putting togethe. The glowing runes she traces in the air merge into a single, flaming orb; she catches it and hurls it upwards, way up to the worm. The little, blueish point almost seems to get lost in the darkness.

Almost.

Then it blossoms into a thunderous explosion, bathing everything in a bright blue wave of heat and light, with a deep, thrumming reverberation that lingers in the air, and leaves patches of fire burning on all of the walls; as well as one very singed worm.

The dagger wielding, at-the-moment ally human whose life was quite obviously saved by your arrival and heals tries to squeeze past Asmli... she is obviosly shaken, and isn't very graceful at it, but does manage to slip by. Likely trying to get away from the goblin-spider demon on the wall.. who promptely shrieks once, and then vanishes.

With the battle more or less complete, as far as Donna could affect, the brawler stands up straight, and takes in a long, deep breath. As she exhales, she seems to let go of the magic thrumming through her veins as a curl of pale-blue arcane fire leaves her mouth, rune tattoos fading into obscurity, and the mad fire leaving her eyes.

Stretching her neck to one side, then the other, the dark twin simply ambles toward the back of the party, squeezing past Asmli and Strike -- each getting a silent, companionable pat on the shoulder -- as she approaches their prodigal acquaintance. "Thanks for the assist," she drawls. "You all right, then?"

The explosion is nice, lots of light and fire. Ashlee feels an instinctive thrill watching it go off, she is a goblinoid after all. Then, their errant ally is heading her way. The ashen Arvec attempts to persuade her to stop, by holding out a hand with bones tattooed on it, and intoning, "Stop. I need to heal you more."

Not exactly the sort of thing one expects from a small grim-reaper look alike, but she has a convincing presence and a small set of scales of Vardama. Ash is almost a welcome sight, even if she doesn't blink and her voice is ominous.
