  • Summary: Cryosanthia has been playing with Lily, letting the kobold use her boots of striding and springing. Lily discovers another setting the boots have, levitation, and shoots herself up into the sky. The whitescale is trying to talk Lily down, unsuccessfully. Faran arrives, and Mercy spectates, but it is Xasany who has the solution as she is able to fly. The gnome successfully talks the kobold down, who immediately runs off to tell Faran. Crisis averted, dinner is planned, and Lily wants another go.

In the shadow of the great Highbridge, and beneath the guardhouses, a stretch of river has been laid out as a public park and fishing area. Here, the descending landscape of Alexandria folds into the river and crafts a comfortable view. On a typical day, a number of small boats and picnic blankets dot the landscape. To the side, a small shrine to Rada the River Serpent, as well as a dual shrine to Althea and Daeus, in their guise as Mother and Father of the world.

"Lily, it's okay! Lily, come down."

Cryosanthia is walking in a small circle, staring up in the sky. Directly above her, forty feet up, a pink kobold floats in the air, completely unsupported. She seems terrified, and crying.

"It's all right Lily, just relax. Come down. Ssassa isn't mad." The white sith pleads.

A chilly wind blows from the west, driving dark clouds before it and blotting out the stars in patches overhead. The air is clear and elsewhere they glitter brightly in the dark sapphire sky.

Normally, Faran doesn't spend a lot of time along the banks. However, after taking the oppurtunity to turn a need for errands into a little constitutional for Torrent, she became aware of a certain troubled kobold floating by as she was riding accross the bridge. She calls out, "Lily!" in some alarm, and draws rein, bringing the large black Huntstman to a halt, "It's ok honey, it's ok!" The Lucht twists in the saddle, and makes sure the saddlebags are secure, before, with some tugs of rein, and foot taps to shell, she steers the arachnid to go up and over the side of the bridge and, because the light isn't great she calls out for, "Cryo!" to make sure she's nearby. Last she checked, Lily couldn't fly on her own.

The Gnome approaches slowly, eyeing the waters of the river nearby, and scrutinizing the edges of the beach. Every so often she stops, and picks up a piece of driftwood. She is well lit by a glowing orb of light that seems attached to her to the point of her hat. Xasany straightens suddenly, hearing the crying from above, and the voices below. She begins to make her way over, hugging the small sticks and one log that she's found so far. "Erm. What is the matter?", she wonders of Faran and Cryosanthia.

Mercy was... just crossing the bridge in her ongoing exploration of the city. She looks over the parapet at the noise and sees the others. "What is going on?" she asks in general as she looks around for a way to climb down and join the others gathering at the bank.

"Faran! I'm over here. Come please." Cryo hears a familiar voice, and replys, her own full of anxious tones. She waves for the lucht knight to come over, and keeps staring up into the dark sky.

High above, Lily would be described as 'bawling her eyes out' if she were a humanoid child and capable of tears. Instead she's exhibiting the reptilian equivalent, which is a lot of tail thrashing, squirming, and strange throat noises that at times sound like chirping but are unmistakable fear.

"Lily, just think down! Slow down. Go down slow." The white sith'makar calls up, in tradespeak then a hissier version which is draconic. She looks at her friend, and the gnome, answers them and even the voice from the bridge. "We were playing. I let her use my boots of striding and springing so she could jump further. She discovered their other setting, levitation, and she's afraid of heights so she's stopped listening to me."

Mercy looks up. Looks around and wrinkles her nose thoughtfully. "I see..."

Mercy says, "I think..."

Faranmidahn shakes her head and starts to flex and contort her fingers as she begins to intone a quick incantation, "Between candle and open sky, abate the darkness from my eye!" And the upswung visor of her helm is set with a warm glow, enabling the Lucht to see much better, and, more easily be seen in turn. <Halfling>

"Lily! It's Auntie Faran, can you hear me?" She glances down to Cryo and Xasany, then up to the kobold child, "Look at me, sweetie, I'm right here, it's gonna be ok." she croons, trying to soothe the frightened child.

Mercy says, "Well... that's a thing.""

A tiny knight casting light while riding a big ass spider stuck to the side of the bridge. Interesting.

Xasany drops her load of driftwood nearby and moves to stand beside the white Sith'makar. "I am able to fly, would you like me to go up and see if I can't convince her to come down with me?", she asks the taller woman.

She looks to Faran as there is a bright glow. "Ah, that helps a lot."

The hiccuping and hooting stops for a moment as Lily hears a new voice, a familiar vioce. She looks down between gasps. There's a warm glowing light, on the side of the bridge. She's so high! She makes another frightened squeal and curls up on herself, then shoots upwards another twenty feet.

"No Lily no! Relax, not higher! The other way." Cryo calls. She's bouncing in place, anxious, the nervous energy coming out through her legs and tail. She looks over to Xasany, "Yes. Please. She fell the first time she figured out how to turn them off. Since then she keeps going up. Can you make hissing noises? That will calm her down."

Mercy is at an utter loss. "Well I could..." she plays with her cross bow. "...but I don't think that will help.... this doesn't involve the undead.... trying to intimidate the little tyke seems counterproductive and just mean."

Xas tries really hard to hide her smile behind a hand. On the outside, the situation looks hilarious. "Ahem. Yes, I can hiss. I do also speak draconic, if that helps?" There's a brief gust of wind that swirls around the little woman, her hair curling about dramatically. She begins to rise up at a modest pace. "Lily.", the Gnome calls out softly, and then switches to draconic. "You will be okay, I am coming up to help you get unstuck." She then begins to make a little hissing noise. "Focus on me, and it won't seem so scary or high." More hissing follows.

Faranmidahn bemusedly purses her lips as Lily's distress was clearly -not- aided by her efforts. She sighs, but can only glance back down to the others a moment, a rueful expression on her face, "Does anyone have any of that spider rope? I could float the end out to-?" she breaks off as Xasany starts to fly upward and, "Or that." Ahem, then she calls, "Lily! That's Autie's friend, she's coming to help you!" She looks down to the large (huge) woman with a helpless smile and a wave, "Hello!"

Mercy doffs her hat and mops her brow, looking up. "I've got not a thing."

"Oh yes, if you can speak draconic that's even better. Her full name is Little Fang. We call her Lily. She likes games and running. One of her favourite ones is big Hunter, where she pretends she's hunting a boar. One of her favourite toys is a scorpion." Cryo rattles off several details frantically, "Oh, that's too much, really, you don't need to know all that. Here though, take her toy."

The whitescale reaches into her haversack, pulling out a wooden scorpion.

"Little Fang! A friendly light is coming to see you. It's Auntie... Hiss." She's left standing there, holding the toy out as Xasany rises up.

Xasany twirls about and deftly snags the toy scorpion from Cryo's outstretched hand. She returns to serenely floating upwards. In draconic, she says, "I'm bringing up your friend here." The Gnome wiggles the toy, and continues upwards. She hisses faintly. "I am named Xasany. I hear that you are Little Fang. That is a good name for a hunter."

A light, her toy, and something new has caught Lily's attention. Her sides are still heaving with panick breathing, but her strange whistling distress noises halt. She watches Xasany get closer. "Yessss! Little Fang." She holds out her hands, all grabby.

Cryo continues to circle beneath, watching as Xasany's light gets higher. It's hard to see the little carnation scale in the dim light. "It's ok Lily, just relax, she'll bring you down." She does her best to sound encouraging.

Faranmidahn, being up on the bridge, is probably helping with visibility, like a fluffy mana lamp, but still she watches in open concern.

"Ah ah.", she says softly, "Carefully. You don't want to drop your toy." The wee scorpion is gently transferred. "Now, I see you learned how to go up. Would you like to learn how to go down? Or would you just like to get down and be with Cryosanthia?" Xasany puts her arms out, moving slowly. "Hug me and we can head back down."

"Down, down." Little Fang hisses, reaching to hug Xasany at the same time as the boots shut off. She grabs suddenly and rather tight, grabbing is an innate kobold skills. It's a clutching hug.

"Lily! Xasany!" Cryo shouts, alarmed.

Xasany, and her clinging passenger, gently float downwards. "Down it is then.", she says in Draconic to the li'l pink Kobold. "Did you catch anything up there in your hunt?", she wonders. The journey down is a little faster than the one up, bit it is not long at all before the Gnome is standing firmly on the ground. "And we're back!"

Faranmidahn clicks her tongue, tugging the reins and nudging her spider with her feet to make him continue his descent to the shore with the others, "Everyone alright?"

"Yes! Thank you, thank you!" Cryo is quick to hug both Xasany and Little Fang, especially Little Fang. "It's okay, yesss Little Fang, you are good. Very good. On the ground."

She's taking off the boots as she speaks. A rope may be involved next time.

The carnation kobold seems completely recovered, all grins and teeth looking up at Xasany. She waves the scorpion toy. "Caught thisss."

Then Faran and Torrent is spotted. As soon as both legs are free of boots and Cryo releases her, she bolts over to Auntie Faran. Dodging around Torrent's front, she comes up beside, rattling off quick draconic words.

The white sith'makar exhales, crouches to be at Xasany's height, "This one is most grateful. Thank you."

The Gnome giggles at Lily and shakes her head. "Good catch!" She blinks as Cryo crouches down. Nodding, she moves to hug at the woman. "You're welcome. It was a pleasure to help out. We can all giggle about this now, yes?"

Mercy says, "Well alls well that ends well I guess""

Mercy waves her hat with a flourish and bows. "Nice to have met you all .."

Faranmidahn swallows her heart as Lily runs on up to Torrent, though she visibly relaxes as the kobold alters course to the side. She smiles warmly and knock-knocks Torrent with the belly-down signal, to which the spider obliges. The Lucht twists and spreads her arms in an open hug, "There's my good girl!" She looks over to the other resonably sized woman with a bright smile, "Thank you so much, Xasany!" Her attention turns to the large woman on her bow and she smiles, 'And you, madame!"

"Oh yes, yes," Cryo says, putting a hand to her chest. Her breathing calming down. "It shall be a fun story. Lily's first flight."

Just to be safe, the sith'makar is putting the boots on herself. "Thank you so much, this one owes you a dinner at least."

Lily meanwhile is jumping up in the air, and somewhat disappointed she isn't able to stride and spring as she was in the boots. Grabbing Faran's hand, she attempts to pull the lucht over towards Cryo, pointing at the boots and squealing happily, "Again!"

Xasany offers a wave to everyone, and nods to Cryosanthia. "I shall take you up on your generous offer some time in the future. I'm thinking a nice hot meal on a cold, winter's night will be excellent." She eyes the Kobold's exuberance towards another flight, and giggles. She moves to gather up her discarded driftwood and heads further up the beach.
