  • Title: Forgotten Words
  • Emitter: Seldan
  • Characters: Seldan, Zeke, Cryosanthia, Seyardu
  • Place: A10: Temple of Daeus
  • Time: Friday, October 01, 2021, 7:41 PM
  • Summary: Seldan arrives at Cryosanthia's room, Zeke's timely return happens now also. They enter, where Cryosanthia is clothed, and while still a dragon, looks a lot more like herself provided she is careful with her poses. Zeke begs her not to leave, and Seldan discusses the threat that Aya now is, while Cryo tells him she's trying to keep it simple for Lily. Zeke begs Cryo not to leave the room, no matter what happens or what she hears. She had no real intentions to, is disturbed by this, and promises to do so. Zeke is uncomfortable, and Seldan wants to know why. Cryo relates her fight with Nonantzine. Zeke explains that her accusation, that his mother slept with a Forgotten, deeply wounded him. It was something the whitescale kind of forgot. Seldan asked why she used words, if Egg-Watchers are trained to fight. Cryo, somewhat shocked, explained she felt words were a better alternative to Zeke being between two fighting females, again, this time his mother and his cihuaa. Seyardu explains Egg-Watchers provide support for Nest-Mothers, which is an aspect Cryo missed out on in her training, or it's new. In any case, while she tries to apologize and explain herself, Zeke wishes to go help the person being escorted to the Temple. There are sudden screams, and both men depart. Cryo tells Lily and Seyardu to pack up. The Temple of Daeus is not the comforting place for her that it is for her cihuaa, and she's not defending a box she hates.

The temple of the Sun Lord glitters golden beneath the same. Rather than walls, the majority of the temple is composed of what appears at first blush to be a raised round platform made of one of the largest slabs of marble likely in existence. Columns rise into the air as if to hold some massive ceiling, though instead of a normal ceiling, one finds the deep blue sky, studded by a disconcertingly close canopy of bright stars. One should not worry, however, as the rain never falls, and the wind never blows on this particular temple, but for a gentle breeze, whatever the weather outside may be.

Despite the austerity of the columns, warmth suffuses the grounds. A grand, marble statue of the Shining Knight stands a the center, a hand outstretched in benediction. Beside Him, the statue of Althea, their hands clasped in love. The central position of the temple to the others gives view to all of their children, and the two look upon one another with the solemnity of love that has been the center of so many tales and legends.

Masterfully designed mana lamps provide further soft, golden lightning where needed, their pedestals carved in the form of the Dragons of Light, over which Daeus is said to have dominion in His form of Draco Solis. Majesty, justice, and welcome suffuse the temple grounds. Around the central temple are a series of smaller buildings, each with a simple function and form. One houses the sacred book depicting some of the earliest known translations of the Laws of Light, which pilgrims from near and far come to visit. Another houses the well-appointed quarters of the Sunguards, and among all the ground bristle the Sunblades.

The sound of armor is by no means an unusual one in the temple devoted to the Sun Lord, for his armored servants are no few, and the place of late has found itself under heavier guard than usual. Seldan's armor, though, is a different sound, audible outside of the room as he taps on the door politely.

Not far behind Seldan is Zeke, carrying on in his slightly slower capacity. He doesn't ask the paladin to slow down for him. He will catch up in good time. He notices the knock however and picks up his pace slightly. Not wanting to have to open the door twice. Particularly since he is bearing a tray of cups and a small tea service. There's even some food on it. Fresh baked bread loaves of small designation and some mixed fruit and vegetables.

It is the first time he is back, after his sudden flight.

With recent events, Seyardu was spending more time at the room. Watching and playing with Lily, preparing and delivering meals, all things she could do that she hoped was still helpful. And trying to be present to listen and talk. It was a quiet moment however, and Seyardu was resting over the back of a chair, reading a red covered book. "Honestly, surely they can tell that the lord is simply using them for their inheritance, can they not?" She grumbles, before a noise catches her attention.

She looks over at the knock, and pulls herself off of the chair with the book stowed away. She opens the door, smelling strongly of wildflowers, and they smile, thumping their tail once. "Seldan, Zeke, peace on your nests." She greets, already stepping out of the way of those who came to the door.

"Zeke?" Cryosanthia is sitting on the bed, also watching Lily. Her head whips around as the door opens, "and Seldan? Come in. Peace on your nest, Seldan."

She thrums loudly, a call for her cihuaa, "Zeke, this one apologizes, for what you heard and fighting your mother. We ... spoke after."

Cryo pauses, looking down. She's wearing a dress, and a rather loose shirt. Both are white and decorated with pale blue embroidery. She doesn't seem quite right. It's apparent she's still a little white dragon, but with clothes she seems a rougher version of herself.

Until she drops to the floor and all fours, then she looks like a dog in a dress. She moves close enough to the door to greet them, and stands, holding herself up on the wall. "She's not unreachable, and she loves you, but... it will take much work."

"Seldan, Zeke healed me, see?" Her wing and tail look fine.

"That is good news indeed, and peace upon yours also," Seldan returns, with a polite bow to both of those present. Upon fully opening the door, and now as he steps into the room, courteously holding the door for Zeke, he had proved to be fully and openly armored and armed, Reunion at his hip and both cloaks over his shoulders. Only the missing knapsack and the missing longbow at his back do not say that he is preparing for a journey of some sort. He maintains a courteous distance from Seyardu, but looks both of them over. "Zeke has healed many, of late."

Zeke swishes his tail at the comment about healing, entering the room and making his way immediately to the small bedside table so that he can set everything down. Once this is taken care of he nods low to Cryosanthia. "Thisss one..." He hesitates and shakes his head, changing his mind about what he was about to say. "Thisss one hasss a requesst to make of you Cryosssanthia. That you ssstay in thisss room, no matter the noissesss you might hear. Or what-ever dissturbansce might occur." He looks at her seriously. "You musst promissse thisss one to ssstay ssafely in thisss room. Preferably with Sseyardu to protect you."

Seyardu blinks, and squints at the arrivals. "This one should apologize, Seldan." She states quickly, with a nod to the paladin. Then her attention is on Zeke, and she stands up straighter. "What is this you speak of? Disturbances at the temple? This one, will look out for Cryosanthia, yes, but feels it would more likely than not be the other way. Can you explain why though, please? This one would know, if it can be shared."

Cryosanthia looks at Zeke, looks at the door. She listens, extends her senses, blind sense in particular, but it doesn't tell her much either. Lily is here, as is her cihuaa, the nest she wishes to protect. "This one will promise so, Zeke. This one had no plans to leave."

Her other visitors are long gone, "This one will have a hard time if I hear screams, or someone calling my name, but I will stay." She glances at Seyardu, nodding, "What do you know, what is happening?"

The conversation has caught Lily's attention, and she looks up momentarily from her mechano set.

Cryo hops backwards, still attempting to stand 'normally', "Peace on your Scabbard, Reunion, are you well? Do swords get unwell?"

"It is my hope that there will be none. With Mistress Aya disappeared, there are certain ones at significant risk, and we await him here, to keep him safe," Seldan answers, remaining where he is, although he inclines his head at the apology. "Think naught of it, Seyardu. I do not think you of ill intent."

Reunion is less reticent. "Better now," the crotchety old man chimes in. "The most boring last moon of my life. I am so glad to be back on a belt."

"It is asss Sseldan sssayss." Zeke supplies perhaps a bit unhelpfully. "You are the lassst line of defensssce that Lily hasss. Thisss one doesss not care what you hear... You mussst sstay here Cryosssanthia. Protect our nesst." He looks at her pleadingly. "Thisss one musst go with Sseldan. To heal any who might be harmed, ssso thisss one can not."

"But this one still wronged you regardless." Seyardu sighs, clearly on edge now, but the perfume blocking out the worst of it. She looks to the door, and to Zeke. "And you are Cryosanthia's Cihuaa. This one can heal. Would it not be better for you to stay here, in that case? What you both speak of, it sounds dangerous."

Cryosanthia nods, facing Zeke, and exhales, "Ok. This one will stay. Be careful, please." Another heartbeat, a tail-twitch, she adjusts her claws against the wall, "This one would wish you excitement Kainen, but perhaps that would be a bad wish."

She looks towards Seldan, "Who is it that's coming here? How is he connected to Aya?"

"Tia Ay-ays loves me and is protecting me. If I see Tia Ay-ays I should run away, because it means the bad man is too close.." Lily interrupts, reciting by rote an instruction she's clearly been given a few times. It barely interrupts whatever she is attaching together. <draconic>

"Yes Lily, that's good." Cryo looks at her, then the menfolk again. Her scents are calm, very calm. Everything is just fine. "You are preparing to travel, Seldan?"

"If there is a disturbance, I shall see to it." That explains Seldan's attire - it is the attire of a man prepared for trouble, and openly so. "Tia Ay-ays is no longer the protector you know, little one," he tells Lily, but then turns to the others. "I shall remain, so long as there is no disturbance." His eyes lower, and he assumes a parade-rest stance. "I would ask your forgiveness, but I have no choice but to be plain with you, for her sake, and for yours. The one coming here is one named Daed. I know not their precise relationship, only that they are close. Mistress Aya - belongs to Eclavdran, now."

Zeke lowers his gaze, having no desire to have this argument with Seyardu or with Cryosanthia - again. So he keeps his maw sealed and his expression without emotion.

Seyardu sighs, her concerns addressed silently, if at all. "So be it, in that case." She replies, stepping back to she could pull her armor out of her satchel just in case, and begin putting it on. She pauses, looking to Seldan, and blinks.

"What do you know in that case? This is, you are stating this with such certainty." She asks slowly. "No one has seen her since she brought Lily here. She was fine that moment."

"Seldan..." Cryo reaches out, resting a talon-hand on his arm gently. A familiar motion, made strange by her current form, "... this one is trying to keep it simple, she must avoid Aya, but this will not last forever."

"Runss from Tia Ay-ays.." Lily repeats. <draconic>

"Daed... there was a scroll for her. This one saw, it left with Aryia." Cryo says, removing her hand and looking around room, "Not sure where mine went. What did yours say Zeke?"

"Seyardu... her death is too easy. She must have traded her services, her self, to him. This is the only thing that makes sense to me." Cryo looks at her cihuaa and his kin, "have you more insight?"

Seldan has taken on the mien of the alabaster pillar once more, but there is a hint of sadness within it - and perhaps a hint of worry? Certainly there is a tension there that is seldom seen. "Do you not wonder why it is that I vanished from the Temple for weeks during my illness, to a location known to none?" He closes his eyes, and lowers them. "I was removed from the Temple to another in another place, so that I might heal in safety. Mistress Aya called upon Eclavdran, with me in the next room, unbeknownst to them both. They spoke as allies, and he healed the malady that afflicted all of us, and restored her strength - and did so in my guise. Had I been discovered, he would have slain me without effort, for I barely possessed the strength to stand."

Zeke shifts from foot to foot. "Thisss one knew thissss, but did not want to reveal that Ssseldan wasss the one that heard and sssaw their... converssation." Zeke looks up from his downcast position. "Thisss one tried to sssay that ssshe could not be trusssted then, but thisss one..."

He trails off and shrugs, looking down again. Trying his best to be unobtrusive. While this is not unusual for him, it is slightly strange that he is being so completely unobtrusive. To go to such lengths must mean he is deeply troubled. "Sseldan wasss... rightly concerned that he might be killed whilst he ssslept, sso thisss one ssent him away. Forgive thisss one for the obfuscation."

"Yes, this one heard rumors." Seyardu states, but then she sighs. "But this is not the matter of note now. She broke whatever they agreement they had at that time, I know she did."

Then, she shakes her head. "Yes, she was healed by them, but I still trusted them. Trust which she has not broken yet. Whatever you speak of is a new development from what happened afterwards. I do not believe Aya did not have a plan, even if it requires help."

"Seldan, this one has been unconscious for several weeks and this room since, recovering. I wonder much and haven't had full explanations or knowledge of what is going on." Cryosanthia admits, "and ... I... don't know how to fit that information in."

"She stood with us in the Sea, and ..." The whitescale looks at Lily, at Aya's broach pinned to her dress, "... she brought her back to me Seldan. She needs us. This is how he works, to drive us apart."

"This one agrees, there is much that needs explanation and she is dangerous to be around." She looks at Seldan, "You did visit me before, when Silverguard Serene was here, that was not him, then?"

"Zeke, you are silent." Cryo lowers her head, "This one... does not wish to be Nonantzine, to be violent in your presence, to injure you, even accidentally, with actions and words. This one is sorry."

"You are not speaking much, what troubles you?"

"She did, and it was not. That was indeed me." Seldan does not relax, but looks back and forth between them. "When she reappeared, she had Lily. Do not think that her rescue came without price, Seyardu, Cryosanthia, for I witnessed that arrival. It is in my mind that she traded her soul for Lily's. Eclavdran does nothing that does not benefit him, in some way."

He turns aside from that, though, to turn his eyes to Zeke, his demeanor softening a little. "Kin, I will not force you to speak, but my door is open."

There's a flicker of - something - in Zeke's eyes as Cryosanthia comes closer, and he looks down again. "Thisss one doess not wisssh to fight. Thisss one only wissshesss to be pleasssing to you. Thisss one..." He glances at Seldan. An expression that clearly says 'HELP ME'. Though how, with what... His look can not say. "Thisss one agrees with Sseldan." The words are very, very faintly spoken.

"I, I can not say with certainty. But I do believe you are correct in her being dangerous for now. Otherwise she would not have had me tell the sunguards here such." Seyardu admits, glancing to the door, and continuing to put on her armor. With her concerns aired, she takes a moment to look at the others and take the feelings better.

"Zeke, if you need to speak about anything, all in this room would listen without any judgement. Because we care about you." She finally says, before continuing her donning of the armor.

"That is what I thought, her services, or her soul." Cryo's voice falls. Her breath is steady, her gaze lingers on Lily. She is silent for some time.

A silence that continues, when she sees the flicker in Zeke's eyes. Her wings droop behind her, closing in tight, and she steps back. Her talon finds the wall to support her further.

"I..." She pauses, "I ..."

"I thought guilt, Zeke, that she might have guilt, must have done something. It... was not my thoughts about you." Her tail curls around her ankles, "Please Zeke, what is it?"

For the first time, Seldan steps forward from his rest stance by the wall, placing himself swiftly between Zeke and the other two sith-makar, in a stance that is neither resting nor openly defensive, merely - watchful. "Cryosanthia, my kin submits to you. He does not do so, did you not wound him in some way. I would hear what passed between you." Politely worded, but there is a hard edge beneath the words.

Zeke looks at Cryosanthia, and there's hurt in his green eyes. Hurt that makes her back away from him and he... He lowers his gaze again. Knowing in his heart that he's done wrong. That he's making her back away. If he could disappear, he would. But Seldan is between them, and he feels the strength of the other man suffuse him. Remind him that fear is just an emotion. "A year ago you thought thisss one Forgotten. That thisss one would fall to darknesss. Now... You asssked her if ssshe had /lain/ with a Forgotten." He shudders, the words falling from his maw with the edge of hurt and he shakes his head. "How can thisss one ever be a good mate? A good cihuaa ssso tainted?"

Seyardu blinks, and looks between the two sith-makar in front of her, and at Seldan as he stepped between them. She was missing too much to make any statements on what had happened. But with the last few straps set on her armor, she stands back up.

"Zeke, Cryosanthia. It sounds like you were both hurt by what was said. Which means, that something was lost in the emotions, in what made it into words."

She turns to the bluescale first. "Your doubts are twisting what was said to fit them, Zeke. Of course Cryosanthia thinks you are a good Cihuaa. And I believe that myself, too."

And then she turns to Cryosanthia. "Your concern made you harsh? This one knows you were trying to help and defend due to your care. But it was warped by the situation. Both of the care you share for each other was lost in the situation, but it was still there."

"What? This one..." Cryo blinks. Best not to say she forgot the Forgotten bit, especially as she struggles to recall a year prior. Seyardu's words are heard, as were Zeke's. Seldan's, answer his questions first, then ... figure the rest out.

"Nonantzine burst into the room, enraged, attacking Zeke. Demanding to know where his mate was." She holds both 'hands out' as she speaks. Slowly she is tilting forwards. "She grabbed Zeke, dug her claws in and injured him, she didn't notice."

That's when she's about to fall to all fours. A sudden half-flap of her wings, and she pushes herself back up, using her wings as crutches. "This one, was loud, and angry. Very angry. Zeke had just healed me, it felt like an invasion. I moved between her and him."

"I told her, how he is not how she sees him, so much stronger and better. Not crippled, not powerless." Cryo lowers her head, "She did not hear, she repeated her opinions of Zeke. Wrong opinions. That this one was not ready for a century of struggle with a difficult hatchling. That he would forever need her."

The whitescale raised her head, "The Egg-Watchers trained me to recognize a Nest-Mother that is a threat to her nest, and Nonantzine is one. This one did not use the training well. I blocked, so she would focus on me, and I accused her of things... that she might have done... to be come so crazed. Accidentally injure Zeke's Egg. Deliberately injure him, for attention, hatred for his sire. Why? What had she done."

She looks to her cihuaa now, "These... were not thoughts about you, Zeke. There is a redscale, her cihuaa attacked her. My clutch-mate, Vathasithas, was turned near Forgotten in Charn. This one has been told there's another, almost so, she should intervene with the Shaman's... before everything. Before the Sea."

"Even Her. This one remembers what Salina did to you, what she made you believe." Her arms drop to her sides, "It was... one of many thoughts lying about my mind this one threw at your Nest-Mother to get her to stop attacking you and attack me."

"This one does not think those of you, not at all."

Seldan listens in sober, watchful silence to the explanation. "Seyardu, Zeke's wounds run deeper than you guess, deeper still even than that of which I know the full truth. This much do I know for certain - the topic of the Forgotten, even the very topic, cuts deeply into his soul, and well Cryosanthia ought to have known that. I do not doubt that her intentions are good, but not all wounds heal. Some scar, and this is one."

He turns then to Zeke, inclining his head. "It is not in my mind that your cihuaa believes you so, nor certainly do I. I know differently, and do you forget, I shall again take you fishing." A ghost of a smile plays around his lips for that. "But," and here he turns back to Cryosanthia and Seyardu, "I do not doubt that his nest-mother is poisonous, from your words, but would an egg-watcher not turn teeth and claw upon a threat to the nest, and not mince about with words?"

Zeke does not know what to say, but he is still. Still as a mouse in the sight of a hawk. This... "Thisss isss not the time for sssuch thingsss." He manages. "Thisss one ssshould be prepairing for the arrival." He should be, and he's suddenly, endlessly grateful that he has an excape path from this talk of Forgotten. Of what he had once nearly become. What he had nearly died not to become.

"Thisss one knowsss. Thisss one knowsss that thisss one iss better thought of than the wordsss sspoken, but... thisss onesss own thoughtss are an illnesss." Zeke shakes his head and moves quietly toward the door. Inch by inch. Nodding to Seldan. Nodding to Cryosanthia. Nodding to Seyardu. "Thisss one ssshould go. The... arrival."

"Seldan. You know what you suggest." Seyardu states suddenly, squinting more at the paladin. "An egg watcher is not just a guard to keep threats away. It is one who is supposed to support those in need when possible as well. But regardless."

"It seems it was the wrong word, and I will keep that in mind. But I can not treat a hidden wound either."

The silverscale sighs, and sits back down, shaking her head. "Preparing is important, and I should leave you to this. Acknowledging the thoughts is important. But they need to be addressed to heal as well. Peace on your nest, Zeke."

Cryo's mouth drops open as she stares at Seldan. Even her pupils spread wider than normal, becoming dark bands. Her scents shift. "Do you... believe I'm capable of killing Zeke's mother in front of him? Do you... think I should be?"

"Egg-Watchers defend with tooth and claw against beasts and while she raged, she is not one. She can be reached. She was... much calmed when Zeke was beyond her sight."

Cryo looks down at her dragon talons, flexes and watches them close them open. "This one flew at Braelnoir. This one has at you, more than once, when instincts overwhelm. This one understands how maternal anger can become too much. It's why they trained me, to focus that, productively."

"Nonantzine has been too long away from her kind, and full of delusions. She does not believe she injures Zeke, she does not see him. He stood up to her." Cryo fixes Seldan, then looks at her cihuaa, sneaking to the door. "You stood up to her Zeke, you were brave, and strong and glorious. You defended the nest."

"Yet, she saw none of it. I saw! She did not." Her head shakes, she exhales, "Seldan. I didn't want Zeke caught between two fighting females again, with blood flying, with one his mother and one his mate. Words... any words... seemed preferable to that."

One thing is clear to Seldan, and that is that he has overstepped with the People, a thing he seldom does. "Ah. I see. I misunderstood their role. Forgive my forwardness." His demeanor, tone, and bearing retreat into that quiet reserve. "But this would I have you understand, do you desire to aid Zeke, and that is that hose who have once been broken, must pick up their own pieces, and they will do it in their time, not in yours. You cannot force them to be or to choose as you wish. You can but wait. Only he knows that which he needs, and how quickly he needs it, and would you aid him, you will offer what he needs, not force upon him what you wish for him to have. This is a secret known only among those who have been broken, or those closest to them, and I count two of them among my dearest friends."

Zeke stops short of the door and offers a bow to those in the room. "Thisss one thanksss you for your concern. Thisss one will ssshare wordss with you Cryossanthia, and you Ssseldan later. When we are not esxpecting sssome-one... They ssshould be here already... Or very sssoon." He nods again, and then makes his way out the door.

"Please, speak afterwards, Zeke." Seyardu requests gently with a bow, watching them leave. Then, she looks to Seldan. Her head tilts. She wanted to speak, but did not wish to bring further distress to the whitescale. The secret that the whitescale should know just as well as him after what she had been through. And so she just sighs. She was being too pushy. "Zeke's mother needs the aid of the shaman, he agreed. What you say works, if someone is willing to acknowledge it and heal, and can do so on their own."

"The Egg-Watchers are protectors Seldan, and they every one has each lost a nest and nearly her mind. After... this one was alone, last year, before Lily, my scent was too upsetting in Mictlan. They recognized the signs in this one." Cryo's gaze is firm, "You know why."

Her head lowers, she stares at the floor, "This one will not push. This one will wait, this one understands last year's errors. Tell me what you need and when you need it Zeke, this one will listen."

Her head shakes lightly, "This one needs to be out of the Temple of the Dragonfather. It holds bad memories, and more grow. It is not the soothing safe-placee for me as it is for you Zeke. It calls to my mind, loss and terror."

"You have someone to bring to safety, this one would not keep you. When you wish, come share words. And Nonantzine..." Cryosanthia shrugs, says nothing more. Nothing else comes to mind.

Outside, there's an uproar outside the temple. The sound of stone shattering, people screaming and running. Seldan looks up at once, and bows politely to both sith. "her light upon your path. Stay here." He does not wait for an answer, but turns and bolts out the door, fairly slamming it behind him as he takes off at a run.

"Peace on your nest Seldan." She offers in parting. Seyardu looks to the door, and blinks as it is slammed shut. She pulls the polearm out of her satchel and sets it at her side. "Things will be alright. But I fear that if things are done as Seldan says, the conversation will never happen to find out what is needed. But, I will trust in that judgement." She reaches over, and puts a hand on Cryosanthia's shoulder. "Zeke and you will share words. You know him well, and he should feel comfortable to share his worries with you."

"He should." Cryosanthia says, staring at the door. The echo of the slam lingering in the hard walled room, and her ears. "This one has made him flee before."

Lily is also staring at the door. Perhaps she's been listening the whole conversation and pretending not to. Sometimes it is a marvel what she catches, and what gets by her. "Ssaaaa."

Cryo's ear fins flick. "Pack up Lily, gather the things Seyardu. If something unexpected comes through that door or the roof explodes off, we're going."

Her nest is not this room. It is the people she cares about and she's loathe to stay and defend a box if the fight comes here.
