  • Title: Familiar Matters Part 3
  • Emitter: Whirlpool
  • Characters: Skielstregar, Barclaiigh, Ravenstongue, Shilde, Vaera, Lyme
  • Place: Lower Markets, Sewers
  • Time: Janaury 5th, 2022
  • Summary: The battle continues in the sewers after the drider flees. Ravenstongue charms the opposing fighter as Barclaiigh harries the casters with a flurry of stones. Ravenstongue convinces the one to fall back while Skiel threatens him, and Barc helps the rogue the raging makari knocked out back onto their feat to aid in retreating. The other party calls it off, and the abate the fight. The pig rescue squad combs over the place, finding animals, as well as slightly exotic kinds, as well as a ledger. Surmising that whoever hired that party to take out the drider knew about this unsavoury meat market, the party has suspicions of someone in the guild participating in some foul play...

GAME: Ravenstongue casts Charm Person. Caster Level: 4 DC: 16
GAME: Whirlpool rolls 1d20+4: (6)+4: 10 (15 due to combat)

"No, you're not going to do anything to harm us," Ravenstongue says, weaving charming magic in her hands at the swordsman. "We're just down here to get a pig and that's /it./" The spell seems to land despite the man being engaged in the melee.

GAME: Barclaiigh casts Stone Call. Caster Level: 3 DC: 16
GAME: Barclaiigh rolls 2d6: (7): 7
<OOC> Barclaiigh says, "7 bludgeoning damage from da rude sandstorm and that whole area is difficult terrain."

"This shouldn't hurt'em too bad, Truffles," Bar mutters, clutching the thong of boar's tusks hanging around his neck and muttering an oath in Circle cant. The floor of the sewers vibrate and awful, hot winds gust through the tunnels as chunks of stone, grit, dirt, and sturdier offal take to the air and swirl through the backline of the antagonist part.

The pebbles go bam-bam and batter the arcanist and Warrior. It was his heart that he betrayed feeding on his hungry eyes. The Warrior, that is.

"Retreat's gonna take twice's long now! Better start early!" suggests the portly dwarfly.

"...augh!"

The Angorite sees the dopy smile that his companion now on his face as he stares at Ravenstonuge and is battered by the stones erupting from the ground. He stumbles back, glowers, and then claps his hands together.

A wave of healing energy washes over his companions.

The rogue opens her eyes on the ground, blearily, "There's... TWO of them?!' she points at Skiel from the ground.

GAME: Vaera rolls cmb: (3)+6: 9 (Grapple)
GAME: Vaera rolls reflex: (7)+8: 15 (Versus grease)

Vaera growls as the situation seems to be getting more chaotic. She does not wish to kill any of them, so she looks for the most flimsy looking of the adventurers. The red makari rushed, them, only to find the ground suddenly covered in grease, which sends them tumbling to the ground. "If I was trying to kill you, I would have already tried to do so. Please stand down." The hunter grumbles.

"..augh! Stay off me!"

An unhappy wizard is yelling at Vaera, backing up, and then they find themselves standing on a very, very slippery portion of ground. It's enough to cause them to lose their balance, and present a hazard to anyone else approaching the wizarda t the moment, to say nothing of the stone call's effoects.

Moving in here is getting really reacherous.

GAME: Skielstregar RAGES!, gaining +2 to melee attack/damage/Will saves and 8 temporary HP

Skielstregar watches the sword get pointed at him, the tip wavering. Dead eyes flick to Vaera's struggle, followed by a spell being used on her. It's hard to see, but all the noises still filtered through.

A miasma of dread washes through to the swordsman. A snarling, double fanged makari present. Half mottled silver and bronze, and holding the polearm like a bat.

"Retreat and you won't join your friend..." he hisses, seething.

"Wow," says the swordsmen, "Wow. Wow. How did I not see it? It's fate. Two adventurers, meeting in the sewers. It's destiny."

His smile is huge. He's staring at Ravenstonuge.

...he's charmed, we're sure. He seems to think it's a meet cute at the moment, totally forgetting about his comrades.

"..what the hell," says the girl, as her vision comes back into focus. While it's very dark in here, very, at least vague shapes can be made out.

Sometimes.

She rubs her face.

GAME: Shilde casts Aspect of the Bear. Caster Level: 4 DC: 15

Shilde rubs at her chin, considering. Then with a word in the druid tongue and a brandishing of a small, carved object, she seems to take on mass. Bulk. And oh boy, the hair.

GAME: Ravenstongue rolls Diplomacy: (13)+7: 20

Ravenstongue looks at the swordsman, who is completely and totally enraptured with her. Unlike most other folks who charm and scheme to achieve their goals, she looks none too pleased about the situation. "Good thing Grandfather's not here or he'd have a field day," she mutters.

"Hey! You! Loverboy! Get your friends out of here, I don't want any of you clobbered by my friend over here! He's full of rage and spitfire!" Ravenstongue calls out.

"My dearest friend, of course. This has been an incredible mix up. Please, I hope we'll have tea soon? Come on, friends! We have that drider to find! Where'd he go, anywayw?"

He's looking around as he bends down to help the down-on-the-ground half-elf with the swords up to her feet. "Come on, what're you doing down here?"

"That giant lizard hit me!"

"Our dearest friend's giant lizard companion struck you? You probably deserved it."

GAME: Barclaiigh rolls Diplomacy: (13)+0: 13

One of them has been convinced to retreat. That's a good sign! And the wizard seems to realize he's not on great footing, either.

Bar bounces his way over to the prone lady the grim sith-makar had administered the manual attitude adjustment to and offers a big, meaty paw of a hand. "Up y'go, miss. I think your friends are off."

He grins his big, stupid grin and offers a rather succulent-looking currant. "For th'road'n your bruises, miss."

"Wait. You're all just going to stop fighting? Like that? Just ... and ... I.."

The halfling Angorite looks ... sorely disappointed. Crestfallen. This was going to be a good fight!

Such a good fight.

There is a sigh. "Well, I suppose it's for the best. The drider DID get away."

Vaera grumbles something unintelligible as she slips on the ground trying to find footing again, until she manages to find a way to her feet. "This has been a mess, yes. And you have no reason to fight us." Vaera continues to grumble. "We were trying to figure out what the drider was doing, before you all jumped to set fire to the sewers, us, and kill them."

GAME: Lyme rolls intimidate: (19)+9: 28

Lyme, greased up and ready to oil-wrestle, glares down at the wizard, eyes burning as he puts on his best orc-face. He points with his sword-hand towards the mouth of the cave. "Your friends are running. You should join them. GO NOW." (Naow).

"...uh ... sorry about the grease? I can clean you up with some prestidig-- you know what," a glance at their armored warrior friend, "... I think maybe i should just go." A glance at Skielstraegar's bulk.

"going!"

And then he's backing out.

"You ssshould probably jussst go..." Skielstregar growls lowly, black ichor dripping from his maw as crimson eyes stares the wizard down as he lumbers past the fighter towards Vaera.

"Of course, my dear. We'll meet for dinner soon. Toodles."

Toodles?!

He grasbs his half-elven friend and begins to guide her out.

"You were taking ME to dinner," she complains.

"I was?"

Oh boy.

Ravenstongue massages her temples for a moment. "Oh gods," she murmurs to herself. She mouths 'I'm sorry' to the half-elf girl and turns back to the rest of the group.

"Pardon my language... but let's get the fuck out of here. I didn't exactly come down into the sewer with the intent of being a heartbreaker this evening," Ravenstongue says.

Lyme stands there, carefully exploring his footing. He slip-slides towards the edge of the grease field. "I, for one, will need a good bath."

Vaera chuffs and attempts to wipe off some of the grease, finding little success in doing so. "I am starting to realize why people look poorly upon the adventuring guilds." She sighs. "Let us check the last of the cocoons. And then we should be out of here."

As the adventurers leave, you can hear the half-elf yelling at him the whole way back. It wuld appear they are dating, yes, but it may not be for much longer.

Meanhile, the cocoons contain a variety of animals. The largest of which in addition to Hogsworth is a sheep.

"Crossed swords'n mortal combat aside... might need let the little miss know you bewitched her fella 'for he's sleepin' with the dogs, miss." Barclaiigh awkwardly suggests to Ravenstongue, working his sausage fingers under his poofy hair and rubbing the back of his neck. "His share of... well, no gold probably won't buy the brews'n dinner to win his way back into her heart."

When it comes time to free the animals the Khazad-aul is on hand and ready. His pockets seem to be full of harvested goodies; berries, mushrooms, edible moss, vegetables, and some bugs that've come along for the ride.

Best not to let everyone else hog all the fun when ewe've got what they need.

Skielstregar is busy heaving and hawing as the chaotic party parts. He takes a moment to get his thoughts straight, fangs and talons receeding before he's back to his mottled silver/bronze self. He eyes Vaera tiredly, making sure she was alright before chuffing and returning to the group to help open the cocoons. "Right..." he sighs, letting loose the critters he's found and rounding up what he can to bring back to the surface that didn't belong down here (looking at you, tentacle creatures that smell horrible.)

GAME: Skielstregar rolls perception: (13)+8: 21
GAME: Vaera rolls perception+2: (17)+10+2: 29
GAME: Lyme rolls perception: (14)+4: 18
GAME: Ravenstongue rolls Perception: (13)+4: 17
GAME: Barclaiigh rolls Perception: (19)+10: 29

...some hunting around reveals a few things. Firwt, is a few sacks of coin. These clearly belong to the drider, yes. The second is a ledger of some kind, with initials next to a request of 'animals'. Some of the animals are ... exotic. It's clear that the spider really *was* involved in some kind of smuggling operation with regards to rare meats. Fortunately, nothing on the list is illegal, but it's *definitely* shady. He was very much taking animals and selling them for cut rates. The coin isn't a lot, it's mosdtly in coppers for pete's sake, but going under the table for sewer-meats, includating rats, carrion crawlers, and yes, otyughs, is probably what nobody wants to be eating and plainly has if the lists of initials are anything to go by.

Someone is saving themselves money.

Wiht all of that, you're able to return to the surface, a bit worse for wear with regards to your odour, to find a very alarmed server at a cafe, where Pothy, Rocky, and Porter appear to be seated around a table, having been fed a rather huge fill of 'snacks'.

Pothy, of course, is the clear ring leader of this deliquency.

Lyme looks at the ledger, trying /very/ hard not to run his greasy hands through his hair. The temptation to slick it all back is so strong. Just a little. NO. He pauses. "I wonder what kind of trouble we would get into if we tracked down the buyers from that book."

"Pothy!" Ravenstongue says, her voice certainly raised. She marches over to the table and she picks up the raven by the scruff of his neck.

"MERP!" The pale-feathered raven's blue eyes go wide as he's seized so violently by Ravenstongue. He desperately looks around at anyone who could possibly help him. Anyone? Anyone?? HELP???

"POTHY, YOU ARE... SO... GROUNDED." Ravenstongue says. But she quickly sighs and just flings the bird onto her shoulder. "What am I talking about? You literally have feathers. I couldn't ground you if I wanted to. (Cute bastard.)"

Pothy looks mighty pleased with himself. "A-A-A-A-And that's all, folks!" he says, cheerfully as can be.

Skielstregar raises a scaled brow at the sight of the leger. It was... odd. And he felt somewhat glad they managed to divert the drider away from being slain. He insists on leaving their belongings there, except perhaps taking the ledger for further inspection.

Regardless of the outcome, he breathes a sigh of relief as they emerge, the fresh air helping cleanse the terrible scents he had to endure.

".. scalessss, why do citiesss sssmelll so bad like that all the time..."
