Cryosanthia

Background

Cryosanthia hatched from a large clutch and enjoyed a pleasant childhood with her siblings and creche-mates that survived. She found she was above average in all ways compared to most, especially in physical challenges, and this strengthened her confidence and outgoing nature. Several siblings were stronger or tougher, but she found she could out-maneuver or outwit those she couldn't directly best. She believed herself destined for great things, a natural leader, who could never fail.

Cryosanthia's flashy antics as a young teenager attracted the notice of the elders. She was selected as a group of promising juveniles and the class went to see the Silver Empress at the capital. While she only saw her as part of a group, and at a distance, the experience cemented her desire to prove herself and make a name in the world. She returned to her settlement, and was initiated into the Speaker Clan. She would go out, meet peoples, and establish links. These formative years were also filled with successes, of a kind she believed important, but the world at large would only see as the inflated endeavors of youth.

Cryosanthia's first real test to prove herself as a young adult came in the form of a hunter-caste expedition to the Charneth lands to see what became of the Sith-Makar that were taken by then. She eagerly volunteered, and was included for tactical and diplomatic insight. The team failed, utterly. They were captured and experimented upon. In her case, the Charnath awoke her bloodline and covered her in tattoos from an experiment in using a living Sith slave as a wizard's spellbook. Some of the magic leaked in as well as out. She almost didn't escape. The rest of the team were not as lucky.

Cryosanthia returned to the Sith-Makar homelands a defeated wretch, blaming herself for the disastrous results. She wasn't the sole decision maker for the team, but her positions were argued strongly and her social efforts failed. She attempted amends and carried tokens of the lost to the hunter-caste's family. She volunteered to go to Alexandria City, to see what ties she could establish, an offer to challenge herself as much as it was to escape the angry eyes and survivor's guilt that followed her from the bleak place. Perhaps, if she endures and grows strong, she will be able to avenge those who fell beside her younger self.

2020 Roleplay Developments

Cryosanthia arrived in Alexandria determined to prove herself, and put her latest failures behind her. She is quick to befriend, but slow to trust anyone she discovers to be a mage, which strains her initial friendships with Mikilos and Merek. She involves herself with the Explorer's Guild and also becomes a server at the Fernwood Pub. One of her earliest successful missions is retrieving the Horn of Gilead, undertaken with Ezil and Faranmidahn, who become trusted allies.

In addition to her informal outreach, she acts as an emissary to the goblinoids when they start constructing their airship near Merkabah and represents the Silver Empress. Cryo is rewarded for this service by a gift of Mithril Armour and a Buckler from the Silver Empress. This present arrives sometime after her most daring diplomatic act.

While investigating the plague oozes that exist in the Alexandria's water supply, she encounters Salina, the Fae Queen of Endless Winter, and offers to help her. Several companions attempt to dissuade her, without revealing the Fae Queen's true nature, so the young sith'makar goes off with her. Only to return moments later, decades older, with no memories and evidence of horrible suffering.

This begins her long quest to get her memories back, understand why she loves Zeke as if he were her Cihuaa, and defeat the Queen of Endless Winter, as well as her Vampire Servant Kol, and the Arch-Demon bound to her destruction and servitude, Eclavdran. During this, she discovers she had a human foundling, Menel, whom she has been conditioned to kill as an adult. Her mate, manages the deed instead. She attempts to console herself with researching all the Guild's records and finds a few useful leads among them. Her efforts bind her tightly to several unexpected cohorts, Faranmidahn, Braelnoir, Kira, Sabina and Acedia, who also suffer at the Fae Queen's hands. Seldan becomes first a close ally, then a figure of distrust. Cryo finally succeeds in regaining all her memories using an Apple supplied by the Queen of Air and Darkness, which brings back everything she went through in crystal clarity. Eighty years of suffering, solitude, torture and indifference beneath Salina who yet called her 'Beloved Pet'.

In two grueling extra-planar excursions, Salina is weakened then neutralized and Eclavdran defeated. It came at great cost, Zeke's sanity, the lives of Verna, Kira, Mikilos, Serene and many friendships. While the temples restored the fallen, and the regular folk got back to their lives, the heroes were left with the ruins and confusion in the wake of Salina's downfall, and seek other tasks to give themselves purpose.

She is successful in restoring one of her slain clutch-mates, River Stone or 'Rocky'. This gives her hope that she will be able to bring back some of the others, that not all her failures are forever.

Cryo dives into mundane tasks. She assists Faranmidahn's mother in recreating her research on the The Vast's Everstorm, which was destroyed by Salina. She tries to assist her scale-sister Braelnoir, who has been going through a lot of physical and metaphysical changes. She works as an 'Ice Girl' for the pubs, using her freezing abilities to supply them with ice, including one fishing trawler whose hold she freezes before they go out. Mostly, she spends time in Mictlan, trying to be a sith'makar and comfortable with the outside. When her friend Sabina opens the Tarrace, she assists with the book-keeping, drawing on her experience at the Fernwood. She no longer works at the Fernwood, quitting and leaving it behind as a relic of her past.

Her world is completely changed by her second foundling, a carnation-scaled kobold youngling given to her by Tae, an Oruch druid who has been working with kobold tribes. Cryo is hesitant at first, and then her heart opens and she dives into Clutch-Motherhood as well as Egg-Watcher training to help her overcome the loss of her first foundling and the estrangement from her Cihuaa. Little Fang, or Lily, proves to be quite the popular handful and she receives several offers for youngling-sitting when she might have to adventure.

Normally, she wouldn't, having chosen family over risking her life for coin and strangers. However a new development forces her claws and she finds she must participate in a search for Shards of the dead-god Animus. A quest that threatens to upend not just the cosmology, but the relationships between Am'shere and Alexandria, as Charneth representatives are sniffing around the City of Mists, looking for cracks. Cautiously she adventures, determined that there will be a future for her foundling, her people, and her own eggs that she hopes to have one day.

As all this occurs, she also struggles with what she terms 'a strange second puberty'. There are changes, magically, and physically within her that are a result of Salina's long experimentation and vivisection. Changes that made her worry she had been turned into a construct, or that her mind still holds locked corners of conditioning that will reveal themselves at bad moments. The two most obvious changes wrought by the Fae Queen were her icy aura, which varies according to her mood, and sparkling light displays that occur whenever she casts magic, causing her scales to light up.

She enters the new year finding herself more involved with the Resurrectionists, and playing keep-away with a Shard from some Vrocks.
