Dran and Rune stand at odds. The two nations share different philosophies, and after Taara's Shadow took the land and was beaten back, it did not take much for the sparks to turn to fire.

It began with a strike on Rune of dragons then unknown and mysterious. To Dran, this showcased a weakness that must be exposed and defeated. A marshalling of forces began. Words of peace began to be called out and diplomats from Alexandria were sent in a last ditch effort to stop a war before it begain. There, they met with the leader of these forces intent on Rune's fall, a warlord named Arendt.

There, he struck down the diplommat, called Alexandria a nation of craven cowards, and accused them of all manner of treachery. It is widely believed in Dran (though precious little elsewhere) that the Alexandrians were responsible for the beginning of the war.

Dran and Rune are now engaged in a titanic conflict which has lasted a year now, the beleagured Parliamentary Guard and it's wizards holding their own against the might of an 'Iron Tide' proclaimed by the mighty Dran Warlord Arendt.

This fighting, as many have pointed out, keeps them from acting againt Heth as they may have been had the rest of the world's plans come to fruition.

Dran continues to accuse Rune of misuse of magic, and is convinced they need 'properly managed' for the good of the world. They argue that their might makes them the right choice for this job, yet it is suggested they pay only lip service to Angoron in the name of conquest. On the other hand, some of their accusations may be true... it isn't as though wizards are known for their sense of right and wrong, after all!

At the moment, the war is at a stand still. The Tide prepares for final assault on the city-state of Rune, but is biding its time while the grand summit is taking place in Dun Mordren. It is said that they have every intention of monkeying with the politics of the summit for their own standing... but then... who doesn't? Should Rune fall to Arendt, he will remake the north in his own image.

Dran and Rune War NPC List

Arendt: Master of the Iron Tide is the warlord known as Arendt. A mighty and powerful man, he has a keen mind and is an astute student of the Dran character. He has excelled at manipulating the war to his advantage, though he has suffered numerous defeats at the hands of Rune's potent strategies and power. He is said to be deadly and ruthless in battle.

Masterly: Less known is Rune's second a nd spymaster, a man named Masterly. It is widely believed by some adventurers that the real Masterly was replaced with one of Heth's agents some time ago. Whether this fact is known to Arendt or not is unknown, and several adventurers have a very large bone to pick with him. (Especially Elessa.)
