  • Title: Message from your Mother
  • Emitter: Cryosanthia
  • Characters: Braelnoir (Ftr5), Elleandra (Dru4), Lanier (Rgr5), Seldan, Un'eth (Dru16)
  • Place: W02: The Wilderness
  • Time: Thursday, April 02, 2020, 7:10 PM
  • Summary: Several adventurers are going to see Elleandra, along with a strange Arvec Nar. The Arvec has a message for Kamaria, Elleandra's love. The party is very suspicious of her, as she has a deathly aura around her and a skull face tattoo. However, the message is legitimate, from Eressea, the half-sil's mother. She wishes her child to be happy. Meanwhile, a murder of crows have followed the silvery chimera, Braelnoir, as she travelled. The Arvec shares that they are here for Braelnoir's eyes. The crows attack, their numbers supplemented by illusions and a battle ensues. Elleandra is the most effective at driving them off, summoning Air Elementals, while the others swing a phantoms and invisible birds. The attack is brief, but the last thing the WitchCrows do is hex Braelnoir with misfortune and steal her scythe during this advantage. They wing away into the sky, vanishing through some portal.

The path from the village eventually narrows somewhat, with the trees on either side becoming more populous. Moss hangs from large stones that sit surrounded by beds of leaves that has accumulated over the years.

A few trails wander in varied directions though eventually even these woods will thicken. One particular trail carries with it the scent of natural brimstone...this trail wanders north and westward, where the trees grow thick once more. To the east, it's rumored that the druids have built a sacred site.

With the sun standing alone in a sapphire sky, and the wind blowing a delicious scent from the north, it's a great time to be in the wood. And that, at the moment, is all Elly is doing. She has herself settled on a branch about twenty feet above the ground, and is within a stone's throw of the little path that wanders from Wilderness Pointe. Her camp, tucked away and out of sight, is not far from her, though her attention at the moment is devoted to the inside of her eyelids, as she draws in breath and basks in the wind and light of the day.

Braelnoir is walking with her scythe over a shoulder, the edge nicked in several places in the aftermath of the battles within the Merkabahn cavern. Her hoofbeats are heavier upon the path than her build would indicate, though the mass of her equipment and gleaming sheen may have something to do with that, and the chimera'd warrior moves with a sort of wary posture, eyes sweeping about for some better sign of how she's going to find a certain someone.

The steady thumping of an axe or hatchet is audible near the camp. Although what is making the noise may or may not be visible from the road, the sound is familiar enough to anyone who has spent time splitting firewood. It's the sound of honest work, but it does give away the location of the campsite.

A bird alights high up in a tree. It's a raven or a large crow. It has definitely been following the silvery chimera for some time in her journey. Once she's gotten a certain distance away, it moves to catch up.

The clear sky and bright, if low, sun offsets the bit of chill from the light wind. This is even moreso for those with dark scales to absorb the radiant warmth. Un'eth is a prime example of such as she moves without haste along the more cleared and unshaded trail from the north.

Elleandra tilts her head and slowly opens her eyes. It's hard to hear clearly, but there's a sense of something in the sounds of the animals, and it inspires her to quickly drop down from her perch. With a touch of wariness, she makes her way closer to the path, eyes sharp to see who might be coming.

Braelnoir hasn't minded the cold so much. Winter wolf breath, yes, but cold in general is not so bad. Her eyes, sweep along, seeing her quarry, and potential threats alike as, there's no guarantee out here that her, really, really irritating placcard will sate and reactionary fun to her appearance before she's had to kill someone. It isn't good clean fun if it's a mistake, after all. Maybe she should just call out for- wait, movement! Brae's trot ends and with a jerk of her shoulder, her polearm is in her hands, primed, "Who's there?"

The heavy, rhythmic sounds from the camp continue for a few minutes more, then stop. Seldan looks up from his work as Elleandra moves, and wipes his brow, pushing thay stray lock of now-drenched hair from his face and looking around. He is drenched in sweat, despite the cool breeze, and has shucked all armor and weapons for a simple shirt, trousers, and holy symbol around his neck. When he hears Braelnoir's call, though, he looks around, immediately climbing to the top of the woodpile for a better vantage point. Being able to see means being seen, though, and he's quite visible at this point, most of him drenched in sweat.

There are two travellers on the path, clearly visible to the paladin. One of them is Braelnoir, the other, her shadow. At some distance behind the silvery chimera there is figure dressed in black, moving slowly up the path. Seeming to glide. Her skin is dark, at a distance her race is difficult to determine but she is elf-sized. She has a parasol, folded and being carried, and a skull face. A crow seems to be following her also.

Elleandra pauses at the sound of Braelnoir's call. She's not exactly great at evading notice, so she's not entirely certain if she's the one being challenged with the question. Either way, she steps out into clear view and raises a hand. To Braelnoir, she will no doubt look quite different. The former sorcerer wears hide armor, for one, and for the other, she has a new set of throwing daggers within easy reach. "I didn't expect to have another guest today," she says clearly, "I'm delighted!" Her smile is inviting, and she moves with an extra spring in her step as she closes the gap with Braelnoir.

More flapping of wings. A crow lands in another tree near the silvery chimera, clearly watching her. It looks with one eye, then turns it's head to see with the other.

Ah. Braelnoir. Seldan seems satisfied, and jumps neatly off of the woodpile to return to his work, pushing that lock of hair out of his face again, despite the thin silver headband he wears. It doesn't always appear to help. But - he looks up at the westering sun, then back at the finished pile of wood he's cut. He'd better go, if he wants to make Alexandria before they close the gates, and so he sets aside the hatchet he'd been using, examines his hands, then places them together in an attitude of prayer, letting silver light form beneath them before dropping them and moving towards his thing.

The form following the chimera draws closer to her, seemingly gliding up the path. The pace is slow, and quiet.

Braelnoir straightens and cants her head a bit, "S'a new look fer you, luv, In't it?" her lips quirked in a grin, and she sets the butt of her scythe against the soil. She shrugs a bit and glances at Elleandra's head for a moment, then, "We probably oughta talk." As she speaks, as she watches the elf move toward her with such... enthusiasm, she absently indexes the haft in her hand so the blade is off to a safer angle. The bird itself doesn't catch her eye, as it's forest, hence, birds. The view of Seldan sudenly climbing up over the undergrowth draws her eye, though, but she waits until he's dropped back out of sight to ask "Is.... this a... bad time?"

Elleandra follows Braelnoir's gaze, noticing Seldan. "Oh, no, not at all. We enjoy guests, and not just one at a time. If you'd like to talk, perhaps we should do so comfortably? I have a pleasant camp not far from here, and there's food and drink there." Her focus returns to Braelnoir's face at that point. "What brings you out here? Are you just here to keep me company?"

Un'eth looks to those who approach, or she approaches, dependent on how one views the situation. Braelnoir is perhaps the most conspicuous due to size and form, though as her snout and eyes turn to the chimaera, she notes that she may have a tail. Not one of the attached variety, even.

Lanier moves easily along the path leading north towards Mictlan, his companion Spud not too far from him. He ambles along easily enough, no trace of his passing by left behind him as he travels through the forest. He comes upon a familiar place in the woods, pausing for a moment and taking a look around, almost seeming to listen as much as look. Without preamble, he simply changes directions, edging closer to the camp before breaking through the treeline with the wolf right behind him.

There's a crow following Lanier. Perhaps two. Or one following him and one following spud. It's only as people are getting together that their number become more noticeable. A covy of crows now.

Braelnoir's tail waves lazily behind her as she cants her head, "Didn't know you're a thing, luv, not after our chat th'other day." She looks past the elf up the road and notes the dark sith on up the way looking them over and she wonders, "Friend a'yers, El?" not thinking of looking back the way she came at the moment as things continue to congeal.

A slow moving figure is in Lanier's way on the path. A little under 6' tall, she has dark hair that is shoulder length, wavy and coarse, dark clothes and is carrying a folded parasol. She also has a satchel. For clothing, she's wearing a half-jacket, slacks. There is no reaction, no matter how close he gets, she keeps walking. Although, at the range where one can touch, the air is chill and there's an unsettling feeling.

This feeling descends on Braelnoir too, as the woman quietly walks up behind her.

Seeing the gathering forming, Seldan takes the moment while he is still not yet entirely visible to swiftly cast a simply spell, cleaning dirt and sweat from his work today away from him and his clothes. Only when he is presentable does he look towards the gathering a little away from the camp. Putting his armor on will take more time, but he at least begins the process, looking over at Kamaria to see if she can help him.

Elleandra seems confused by Braelnoir's words. "A thing?" She isn't the quickest on the uptake, but it occurs to her, "Oh, wait, me and Seldan?" She laughs suddenly, shaking her head. The very suggestion amuses her to no end. "Seldan is like an older brother. If you want to see who I am with, she's at the camp. She'll be excited to see you, I think. She loves guests." She steps back to look at Un'eth and smiles, "I think teacher is perhaps more likely. A lot has changed since I went into Merkabah. My sorcery is gone, and now I follow a path that truly suits me."

At the camp, which is tucked neatly out of sight from the path, the half-sil woman Kamaria is prodding a small fire into greater life. Seeing Seldan in need of help, she rises smoothly and sets herself to the task. Judging by the ease she has in doing so, it's clear that this is not the first time she'd aided a man in this way. "Eager to be on your way, Seldan? Or is there trouble? I thought I heard laughter."

To the figure in his way, Lanier slows down for just a moment and then moves to walk around her, resuming his normal pace. Spud, for his part, walks around and puts an entire Lanier's distance between his wolf self and the person walking the same path they are walking. As he passes by, and catches the chill, he looks briefly towards the woman he is passing and then moves on his way towards Elleandra, his hand reaching up to wave as he comes into view, "Hello neighbor!"

GAME: Lanier rolls Perception: (12)+9: 21

"I should return to Alexandria tonight, ere the gates close, and if I am to do that, I should be on my way. Your hospitality has been generous and kind." While Kamaria works, Seldan does likewise, the quicker to get this done.

Braelnoir takes a shiver and straightens with a look of alarm, maybe a little confusion even as she absently rubs the arm holding the scythe, murmuring something about, "....gin' again'...?" and starts to look around. And back... and hello! She scrutinizes the skull faced girl seeing the trick so to speak, and then, "Nice day fer a walk, eh?" A joke, but something's got her tail twitching a bit.

Up close and at first glance, she has a skull for a face. It quickly becomes apparent that it is some make-up, or tattoo. She is an Arvec Nar, with grey skin, a nose that is entirely black, and markings that create the skull like effect. It is a decorative skull image, with scroll-work and some other enhancements. She does not smile, her lips look like teeth. She doesn't respond to Lanier's inspect, but with Braelnoir in her way she halts, takes a bottle out of her bag and takes a long swallow. "I suppose, Not A Monster. Ghisha K'dhul sends her regards and regrets. I am not here for you."

The bottle is replaced in the bag, and she moves to walk around Braelnoir.

Kamaria assists Seldan with care and efficiency. "I understand. It can be difficult to get away from a friend in a hurry. Especially my love. I can let Elly know you had to leave, and will ensure that she is properly comforted." With a playful laugh, Kamaria murmurs to Seldan, "Consider it a favor."

A nearby branch bobs as another crow lands on it, cawing. There are some answering caws in the distance, as well as a high pitched voice that seems to squawk "Shiny."

Lanier looks up, glancing across the branches to the multiple crows that are gathering. The odd answer from the Arvec Nar seems to intrigue the Gilleadian hunter, and he turns back towards the one with the made-up face. He tilts his head slightly to the side, reaching down to pat Spud on the back of the head and settle the otherwise pacing wolf, "And who are you here for?"

The Arvec woman moves around Elleandra as well, seemingly intent on Seldan, or the one assisting him. The same chilling stillness moves with her, even though she's apparently doing nothing in particular. She's quiet, but not sneaking, her slow stroll and soft shoes make little noise on a dirt path, and she's careful to only step on the wet leaves of last season. She remains facing forward as she speaks to those she passes, "Kamaria."

"The crows are not with me."

Elleandra focuses on Un'eth, then the crows. "Is this your doing?" She somehow doubts it, and then she looks past Braelnoir to see the approaching, remarkably odd-looking arvek nar. Who then walks by. At the sight of the stranger moving towards her lover, Elleadra does not wait, but moves quickly, racing past to put herself between the stranger and her love. "Go no farther!" she demands.

Braelnoir's body goes rigid. The strong wood of her scythe creaks under her sudden grip, her spiked gauntlet snapped suddenly into a fist as the spooky girl invokes a name, a name that brings deep, shimmering hate to the chimera's face. A step is taken as she starts to keep her facing to the skull faced one, her tail lashing uneasily, "I bet she does..." Listen to that hate! But as the Arvek continues and moves toward the camp and states a desire for 'Kamaria' and Elleandra suddenly interposes herself. Wait, what?? She, in turn moves to establish a line with Elleandra, "Yer sweetie?" she guesses in a soft voice.

Un'eth was concerned of the unusual Arvek, unsure if it was, indeed, that. Now that she seems to be, her attention turns to Elleandra. "The crows are not here at my behest."

It's easy to move in front of her, the woman isn't walking fast. At the command, she stops. She stares at Elleandra, expressionless, but then hobgoblins aren't known for their warmth. She simply holds her closed parasol in the middle, with her other hand resting on the satchel. The aura she's giving off raises goosebumps, she's cold and quiet, like the grave. "I have a message for her."

A few more sounds of heavy wings, back bodies. Ten crows.

Lanier glances towards Braelnoir and says, "Eyes up. This is weird." He turns, moving with lightning quickness to also place himself on the path between the Arvek Nar woman and Kamaria, "I sincerely recommend you do what she said." He turns his head, "Spud!" This gets the wolf's attention, at which point Lanier switches to Sildanyari almost effortlessly, "Watch Kamaria." Gesturing towards Kamaria, the wolf's ears perk up and he walks towards her. He gets about ten feet from her and then sits down, settling down onto his stomach to watch Kamaria with disinterest.

Seldan has just about managed to get his armor on when the arvek approaches. He moves to step in front of her, but others are quicker, so he contents himself with watching the strange arvek, his eyes unfocusing for the space of several breaths. "To whom to the crows belong?" he asks, not a shred of warth in the question, or in his bearing.

Un'eth slips away into the woods.

As she helps Seldan finishing donning his armor, she at last takes note of the stranger. Kamaria eyes the arvek nar with alarm and suspicion. "I do not know you, nor how you found me, servant of Nahra," she hisses. Slowly her anger is building, but she is no warrior. She notices the eyes of the wolf on her, and positions herself behind the others, within quick reach of the lupine guardian, should it need to intervene.

GAME: Lanier rolls Perception: (17)+9: 26

"Ghisha K'dhul. One of them. The rest are part of her murder." The Arvec Nar says, turning her head to face the paladin. She seems patient and disinterested. "I am a messenger for the dead."

Twelve crows.

"Which dead?" asks Elleandra. "Those that sleep, or those that prey upon the living?" She keeps her voice steady, and while she's not exactly friendly, now that she sees Kamaria is surrounded by defenders, her tone is more even. The druid has time to spare a grateful look to Lanier and Seldan. To Braelnoir she says, "Yes, this is the one I love. My apologies for the awkward introduction."

The ranger trusts the wolf at least enough to alert him if the other visitor makes any sudden movement towards Kamaria. He takes the moment to look out and around, his eyes moving up to the treeline to begin counting the crows gathering up above. Odd, for the crows to congregate so close to people in the forest. Usually, if there's a wide berth to give, the avian population will give it. He seems to get to the end of his counting, and his eyes narrow, "Twelve crows....?" While at first it seems like a statement, the twist at the very end indicates that Lanier may be just as confused as anyone else here.

Seeing that Kamaria is well-defended, and that something in whatever it was he saw satisfied him, Seldan ducks aside long enough to retrieve his swordbelt, strapping it on. Even as he walks back, though, his entire demeanor is focused. "A good question. Whence hail you, and whence hail the crows?"

Braelnoir's hand brushes her hair back over her ear and her charm dances in the aftermath and, while she's still talking through her teeth, she isn't fully into the 'kill it' mindset, "Ghisha's best feedin' the worms." A glance to Elly, then to Spooky, "Kinda message?"

"Eressea, her mother." The Arvec continues to stare forward, blinking slowly. Watching with her peripheral vision. She addresses the group without looking at any of them, besides the Paladin. "They're here for your eyes, Braelnoir. Your very shiny eyes. I live in Alexandria now Seldan. Formerly Blar. The crows come on their own. I would like to be gone before they attack. Let me deliver my message."

Strange... no one shared any names...

Her next words are in response to Lanier's, "Thirteen crows."

There are thirteen crows now. Watching. High in the branches.

"Then speak." Seldan bears not a trace of humor, and rapidly fading patience. He watches the crows closely, evidently preparing to protect Kamaria from whatever is going on. He clearly mislikes the whole situation.

Kamaria's emotions are pulled back into check, "What do you know of my mother?" She can't help but have a challenging tone in the face of this curious stranger. "What message could you bring, and how can I trust you? Her name was well known."

Elleandra looks up at the crows and draws out her sling, "I don't suppose you'd mind if I started dealing with these intruders? If they like shiny things, perhaps a few of my shots will satisfy them." She slips a stone into the weapon.

Lanier keeps his eyes high in the trees, looking at each of the crows as they're gathered. He then shakes his head, reaching down to his belt and loosening the mace found there. He lowers his head, tilting to the side and checking on the happenings behind him. He doesn't interject however, simply looking and then turning his attention back forward. Spud, for his part, shifts uncomfortably as the voices begin to raise, scooting forward in what he thinks is stealthily, but the eagerness for... whatever... causes a mild yelp that draws attention to him.

"They can get used t'disappointment." Brae replies blithely, then asides back to the presumed sweetie she hasn't actually face to faced with yet, "She knows th'dead, an' she knows true faces." Meanwhile, her very shiny eyes flit about to try and get a position on all of the birds. In hindight maybe ignoring them was a mistake, but... seven, eight.... "Imagine th'birds'll be my problem. See t'yer sweetie, luv."

"I have to touch her first." The Arvec woman says, waiting patiently for the paladin to move out of her way, or for the half-elf to approach. She turns, disinterested, to look at Kamaria now. For all the flesh and makeup on her bones, she is really making her skull-face effective. "Then you'll know."

Cawing starts, one crow, then another. Almost a call and response. The observant will notice the same crow never caws twice. There are thirteen. It's a soundoff, or a countdown.

"Silver Guard, I am defenseless and innocent. I cannot fight right now. I will need your protection if they attack."

"By her permission." Seldan nods to Kamaria, then turns to watch her. He isn't moving until she permits it. "If they attack, then I shall defend the both of you, so long as neither of you threatens the other.

The arvec woman nods. She slowly opens her parasol and moves to hold it above her. This will be highly effective.

Kamaria waits for Elleandra to move closer. The Druid stows her sling for now, and regards the Arvek Nar with a steady, disapproving gaze. There's a sense of the unnatural in this stranger. "Make no strange moves," she says flatly.

With her love standing near, and so many at hand, Kamaria takes the risk of allowing this touch. "Be warned, if you do anything to harm me my friends will not spare you. Now show me how you mean to prove that you know more than my mother's name."

Lanier reaches behind himself, pulling at the polearm strapped to the side of his pack. The straps release and he pulls the bardiche around and in front of him, slamming the butt of the axe-headed staff on to the ground. He turns his head towards Elleandra and nods his head, "WE--" using a tilt of the polearm to indicate Braelnoir as well as himself, "will keep an eye on these birds."

Braelnoir grins a bit and glances to Lanier, "Should be fun." and she edges a bit out, just to open enough room for her to swing without getting a piece of the other warrior, "Spooky birds, b'ready fer wierd." For Rol.... time to break Ghisa's heart again.

The Arvec woman steps forward, holding her parasol in one hand, reaching out with her free one. There are markings on the back of her hand, a stylized skeleton with a lot of embelishments. She holds up one finger, in front of Kamaria's face. Everyone being on edge seems to be a regular state for her, so she makes a diplomatic effort to explain herself. "I can't harm."

That said, she strokes Kamaria's nose, gently, from the bridge to the tip. There's the sound of soft crooning, what might be the creak of a cradle. Her voice is completely flat as she speaks. "Eressea says she is overjoyed that you escaped the clutches of those vile beasts, glad that you have reuinited with your love. She wants you to be happy, and also, that she wants grandchildren."

Her finger is withdrawn, her hand returns to resting on her satchel. "She said it more warmly than I can."

The effect this has on Kamaria is dramatic. In her ears, this is said not in the voice of Arvek Nar, but of Eressea, her mother. More than this, she can see her face, and feel her touch, exactly as it was, when she was a little girl, shivering with some fear in the night. "Momma," she says faintly, tears welling in her eyes, "Thank you. I am free now."

Elleandra's calm is nearly unshakable, but only nearly. She finds herself bearing most of her beloved's weight, and keeping her upright only just barely. She can sense no pain in Kamaria's tears or words, but instead there is joy there, an intense joy and feeling of release from some pain so buried that it was forgotten. Cradling Kamaria to her, she smooths the half-sil's black hair.

Braelnoir narrows her eyes, making another quick survey of the avian community and levels her scythe, familiar to one of the crows if the spooky girl's words are true. It's owner at any rate. She doesn't focus on what's happening with the ladies, Sel has that under control, she trusts. Instead, she waits.

Thirteen caws, there were definitely thirteen. All the crows are staring down at the group. One of them turns its head, regards the silvery chimera with a beady black eye. It caws, "Shiny!"

There are suddenly a lot more crows. Then, thirteen less.

In a cacophany of caws they dive to attack.

Witch Crows. The kinds of crows that become witch familiars, and when they don't they're still inherently magical and evil. A familiar of an Ogre Hag Witch, would be even more twisted, angry and out for revenge.

Lanier looks over his shoulder once again, his lips turning down itno a small frown as the exchange is made. He hurumphs, shaking his head and turning his attention back to the crows above them. He narrows his eyes, tilting his head to the side. His eyebrows then shoot up and he calls out, "WitchCrows!" He takes a moment to move the bardiche into position to intercept the birds as they dive down.

The arvec nar pulls her parasol down enough that it's nearly touching her head. It's not much of a shield. She is short however, and not shiny. Perhaps that will be enough.

Braelnoir's grin turns into a sneer as she calls out, "BitchCrows!" as the angle of her polearm changes, tense, coiled like a snare.

Kamaria ducks for cover, which, at the moment, means behind and below Elleandra. She is an emotional mess right now, and is no condition to do much other than try to stay out of harm's way.

Here's a trick she didn't have back in Bludgun.... As the birds close the distance, Brae, expecting most, if not all of them to be headed her way glances quickly at the incoming flock and waits for them all to enter Death Blossom range... And they do, the chimera's scythe becomes a whistling blur around her, fleeting light catching it's curved blade, leaving petal like after images as several illusions are shatter, and a couple of actual birds bleed.

The murder of crows dives down at the party, intent on just that, Murder. A veritable cloud of them surround Brealnoir. Even though each crow seems to be flying in a small formation with mirror images of itself, they are arranged in lines, staggered Vs and attack from all angles. They move and mix and fly by each other making a confusing visual where any set of birds is hard to track, let alone an individual one.

Some, are clearly illusions, as the party discovers when their attacks dissipate them. However, the actual crows themselves appear invisible.

A trio of them swoop by Braelnoir, not near enough to hit, but she feels tiny talons rake across her side, and then there are four birds.

The rest of the party is surrounded by the remainder, birds circle and swoop, fly close. None feel claws. So far.

"Hey." The Arvec Nar almost sounds angry as she slaps at her satchel. "That's not yours."

Crows encircle Kamaria and the dark Arvec, with the Silver Guard fending them off.

Where one tiny elemental is good, two just might be better. If nothing else, it seems that the air elementals are a nuisance to things that fly, and quite frankly Elleandra has little of consequence to throw at them. She hadn't expected trouble of the avian kind to come to the woods. This air elemental appears in the form of a hawk, with glowing eyes, and it creates a second whirlwind, formed neatly along the far side of the group, so that everything circling will go right through its midst.

Elleandra says, "So now there are two whirlwinds blowing.
Same DC12 situation, 1d4+1 damage if they fail,
save again to avoid basically being held and getting more damage."

With the accuracy and quickness of a snake, Lanier pulls the bardiche around into a giant swing which moves from one group of crows into another, a mirror image disappearing at each strike. Spud, for his part, leaps to intercept a bird in the air, his sharp teeth sinking in and only finding to the young wolf's frustration that it simply disappears.

The crows continue to swarm, some are knocked about, several illusions destroyed. The crow that seemed to have a particular issue with Elleandry is pinned in the air, squawking. The one sitting on the branch, vanishes, and the three illusions fly back towards Braelnoir. She seems to be their target, as the little formations of fowls wing by her. Tiny talons rake her all over, but they don't penetrate her hide. Until, she feels a sharp pain, and a caw of success, "Shiny!"

Two of them smack right into the silvery chimera and end up at her hooves, allowing her to stomp a couple false images away.

The group that just rushed her alight in the tree. Meanwhile, the rest of the party feels things snatched at, but nothing taken and no injuries.

The Arvec pulls her satchel tighter, grips her parasol, and comments. "I dislike the wilderness."

Prior to the strike landing, the back end of the weapon firmly impacts the Vaylan family jewels. Lanier's eyes pop, and high-pitched distressed groan escapes from Lanier. Then the other crows break off from the rest of the party, and dash at Braelnoir, one of them slams into the haft of scythe, knocking it free. She almost manages to hold onto it, but it slips from her graps. The opportunity the other birds were waiting for. As the scythe flies further and further away, Lanier lets go of the bardiche to fall to the ground, unshouldering his longbow quickly. He draws an arrow, pulling it to his cheek and letting it fly. In a flash, another arrow is readied and is chasing the other. After an arc through the air, each arrow impacts one of the witchcrows, but they still won't drop the scythe.

Two crows remain, holding the scythe as the druid takes on the form of a dinosaur and runs after them. She's swift, but they can fly. Still, they might drop it. Hope of that is lost as the other crows wing in, and grab the weapon as well. They're not coordinated, at least one crow knocks another off the shaft, the whirlwinds knock several more off, but the free ones swoop in so there's at least six holding at any one time. The weapon is bourne away, higher into the sky.

Once they are a far away, high enough to be out of spell range with no obvious pursuit, the Witchcrows do a strange thing. The illusions finally vanish and the remaining, real crows fly in a circle, cawing loudly, leaving one to flap around slowly with the scythe. Even at the great distance the cacophany is faintly heard. Round and round they go, for several minutes. An odd shimmering effect seems to occur in the middle of this. A foul forest if visible, then the crows dive upwards, one by one and vanish through it.

The last to go through carries the scythe.

It's gone, and so is the distant image.
